Week
This lesson will discuss the responsibilities that different individuals have within a school. It uses visual representations and student involvement to achieve this objective.
Bulletin board (basic map of the school already drawn on it) Magazines or clip art from computer of professions at a school
This lesson will discuss people and laws that keep our neighborhoods safe and secure. This will be accomplished by inviting parents or neighbors to be guest speakers to discuss what they do in the community.
C13.3.1 Identify and discuss examples of rules, laws, and authorities that keep people safe and property secure.
This lesson will teach students about how a democracy works regarding voting, majority rule and setting laws. This will be accomplished with discussions and an online activity about voting rights and issues.

Students will understand the Pledge of Allegiance and its purpose. This will be accomplished by using guided notes and individual projects

FRIDAY week #1
This lesson explains why we have patriotic activities and holidays and the symbols that represent our country. This is accomplished by using a PowerPoint presentation, taking notes and a coloring page C13.3.5 Explain why we have patriotic activities, holidays and symbols.

Week
We will discuss the difference between a city, state and country and identify Las Vegas, Nevada and the United States C16.3.1 Identify their city, state, on a map. The students will and country. write a descriptive paragraph about Nevada in their Social Studies Journal.

Students will name who the President of the United States is and discuss some of his responsibilities. The students will write a thank you letter to the President for all that he does for our country.
The students will name the current Mayor of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Pahrump in a matching game. They will create a campaign poster that will express what some good qualities are to have in a leader.
