SAFETY Carry out the works in a thoroughly safe manner. Conform to all relevant Acts or Statutes, Regulations, By-laws or Orders relating to the safety of persons and property on or about the site. A. CLEARING Remove all trees, top soil, stumps, disused services, roots or rubbish encountered to the extent as necessary for construction and as directed by the Architect. B. GRADING Cut and fill the area of the site to correspond with levels shown on drawings. Accurately machine grades to final levels and finish to a true, even and smooth surface. From embankments to gradients and levels shown on drawings and as directed by the Architects. B. EXCAVATION GENERALLY Excavate forming bottoms of excavations smooth and level, or graded as shown. If excavations interfere with existing services notify the Architect immediately for direction. Step excavations for footings, services or other causes arising, ensure depth shown from floor level to bottom of excavation is maintained. Steps in footings shall suit masonry coursing. Excavate for underground services. Dress bottoms of trenches accurately to falls and to support barrels of pipes. C. SPECIFIC EXCAVATIONS Excavate to depths, widths and lengths for all structures as shown the drawings and as required for the completion of the works, allowing for step-downs where necessary. Carry out any sheet piling, planking, strutting or timbering necessary to maintain and keep all excavations free from debris, cave-ins, etc. The Architect prior to pouring concrete or back filling with stone, etc must inspect excavations. D. EXCESS EXCAVATION Excavation that exceeds the depth specified or shown on drawings shall be back filled to the correct depth with filling material previously specified in layers not more than 200mm thick. Compact each layer to the degree specified for the area concerned.

MAINTAINING EXCAVATION

Provide shoring, planking and strutting necessary to retain the sides of the excavation, and to ensure safe working. Provide safety covers holes. Provide any necessary needing, shoring, and strutting to adjacent buildings on adjoining properties. If in the opinion of the Architect any support is considered insufficient he may order the Contractor to provide additional support. No instruction shall relieve the Contractor of sole responsibility for the sufficient support on the excavation. Guard against the formation of voids outside sheeting or sheet pilling if used, and should any voids form, fill and consolidate them to the satisfaction of the Architect. Remove shoring and timbering progressively as the work proceeds unless otherwise instructed. F. DEWATERING

Maintain excavations, leveled and filled areas free of water by temporary catch drains, sumps, pumping, baling or whatever means are suitable and effective. Immediately prior to placing concrete or masonry on ground, remove free water and foreign matter. Comply with the requirements of the Local Authority for disposal of ground water. G. COMPACTION Refer Structural Engineering Drawings for the levels of compaction required. H. INSPECTION AND TESTING Refer to Structural Engineering instruction for inspection and testing. I. EXCAVATION AND BACKFILLING FOR SERVICES

Excavate for all services etc. as shown specified and required. All trenches are to be kept to a minimum size with true and even grades. Do not excavate for service trenches when they are close to foundations or retaining walls without approval from the Architect. Place and tamp by hand the first 300mm of fill around and above pipes to achieve compaction while not damaging pipes. Place the remaining backfill in 150mm layers and compact to a density at least equal to the density of adjacent undisturbed material. PART IV : APPLY TERMITE CONTROL ON EARTHWORK A. GENERAL Provide termite control, complete, as shown and specified per Contract Documents. B. QUALITY ASSURANCE 1. 2. Qualification: Applicator: Licensed by Pesticides chemical manufacturer in possession of valid operating license from Department of Agriculture (Pesticides Commission); Member of IPPHAMI. Testing Quality Control: a. Test: Checking of environmental conditions prior to application and after work completed to be done preferably by IPB (Bogor Institute of Agriculture) or as selected by Owner: paid for by Contractor. b. Certification: By IPB, or as selected by Owner; paid for by Contractor.
