Education Review
visit (ERO): An Nur is
scheduled for an ERO visit on
13th May 2013. We are looking
forward to keeping An-Nur
tradition of having a good re-
port . We will keep our families
informed about outcomes.
Welcome to the newsletter of
Term 1.
Curriculum: The theme for
Term 1 was a continuation of
Healthy Living for the Over and
Together we learn for the Under
Twos. In the over twos we ex-
tended about learning how to eat
healthy, live healthy and be
healthy. The theme continued to
mostly revolve around the vegeta-
ble garden. Observing the ripening
of the crops, harvesting, tasting,
and using for cooking and for sal-
ads, exploring the seasonal changes,
the soil, the garden inhabitants
(snails, potato bugs, worms, etc.)
and learning about Allahs creation
and thanking Allah for His bounties
were some of the emergent learning.
Two big cooking events brought a
wealth of experience and joy for the
children. Making pasta dough from
scratch, using our ripe tomatoes for
the pasta sauce and preparing a full
meal for Teacher Ericas farewell
party. The meal included roasting a
lamb leg using herbs from the gar-
den, making fresh salad form the
garden produce and cooking a rice
dish in rice cooker. In addition to
healthy education the children got
exposed and became familiar with
different Kitchen technologies. We
also participated in the Red Day
and invited Julia Tatom from the
Heart foundation with her lovely
heart suit and creative health re-
lated activities. On the day parents,
staff and children participated in
baking muffins as fundraiser for
Heat Foundation and for promoting
the centre in the neighboring com-
munity. Lots of other educational
activities were offered, water play,
art, science, and special emphases
on school readiness.
In the under two room, teachers
provided children opportunities
where they were able to work with
and alongside their peers and the
routine provided chances for group
experiences, parallel play, and soli-
tary play.
School Check: Our lovely
Nurse Lurene visited the centre to
check the hearing and vision of our
4 years old children in preparation
for school. As usual, our kids enjoy
this experience and find it amusing.
Islamic Education:
Teacher Huda resumed her main
responsibility looking after the Is-
lamic and Arabic educational pro-
gramme. Islamic education has been
given during mat times as well as
woven into the daily programme.
More staff are now being evolved in
the Islamic education.
Swimming Sessions: The
swimming sessions for ladies and
children are ongoing every Tuesday
at 6:30pm and Saturday at 4:30.
Our regular centre children have
been gaining lots of confidence
around water and shown noticeable
progress in their swimming skills.
The pool will be closed end of June
for the winter to resume again as the
weather warms up more. We need to
make the best of it for the coming
two months. For further enquires
call Maysoon at 349 3223 or 021
2369254.
Centre promotion: We
continue to update our Facebook
page and blog and we are having
huge interest and feed back from our
parents and the wider community.
We ask our parents to visit both
sites regularly for updates as we
upload the children learning as
groups and individuals on monthly
bases. http://www.facebook.com/

We also shared in Wigram commu-
nity Fun Day. Special thanks to
Saiful Adls family who represented
the centre in this fun day by having
An-Nur poster and distributing our
new brochure. Also our head teacher
Natasha Galloway did a great effort
reaching out for the surrounding
community (schools and big busi-
nesses) and initiating contacts and
collaboration. We also organized a
fund raising event for the Heart
Foundation selling muffins to the
Hornby Warehouse and Mitre Ten.
Both approaches were well received.

As-Salamo Alaikom! Greetings! Tena Koutou! s,. ;..
