The undersignedservesas generalcounselfor the National Organizationfor Marriage, a


Virginia non-stockcorporation. This letter providesthe basic substantiationfor NOM's
television advertisementsentitlsd "Gathering Storm," 60-secand 30-secads. Additional
information and documentationis availableon request. Becauseever).thingin the 30-secad is in
the 60-secad, this letter will substantiateeachfactual statementof the 60-secad.

After an introduction,the 60-secad states:"I'm a Califomia doctor who must choose


betweenmy faith and my job." This statementis basedon the holding of the cout1.in North Coast
Il/omen'sCare Medical Group v. San Diego Superior Court, 44 Cal. 4'n I 145 (2008). Shortly
after the California SupremeCourl redefinedmarriagein California law, a California Court of
Appeals heard a caseinvolving a doctor who had referreda woman in a same-sexcouple to
anotherdoctor for artificial inseminationbecauseofhis religiously basedconscientiousobjection
to participating in the procedure.The courl held that the doctor could claim no religious
exemptionto the civil rights law under which shewas suedbecauseof the State'scompelling
interestin ending sexualorientationdiscrimination,a policy onejudge identified as emanating

N.J. Methodist Camp Associationwas deniedpart of its tax exemptionwhen it declinedto allow

to use the property are also pursuinga discriminationcomplaint againstthe Association,and the
