WEEK (22nd APRIL 26th APRIL 2013) Problem/significance : Teacher lacks of alertness and acknowledges pupils understanding and building rapport is the most important factor in the effectiveness of a teacher. Rapport is the relationship between two people; good rapport signals mutual understanding, trust, and a willingness to engage, while a lack of rapport indicates a teachers estrangement from his audience The use of Total Physical Response in classroom is an effective strategy for young learners When a teacher uses pictures, loud, clear pronunciation and physical response, students are offered all the types of sources: visual, auditory and haptic which makes learning more efficient for all of them.

Analysis : Observations were made during this week and the previous week. Here is the result of the observations that have been made : 1. By issuing vague and indefinite directions, presenting information out of sequence, backtracking, inserting extraneous information, moving from one topic to another without warning, making assignment without first checking on understanding and give assignments that do not align with the content development activities, teachers leave pupil floundering, leading to greater tendency for students to go off task. 2. When using total Physical response, pupils respond well to teacher instruction and their excessive energy will be directed to the right channel. Recommendations: Instead of teacher alerting the pupils, teacher should aware to pupils reaction in class in order to change the way of teaching or approaches used. 1. Tell the class what is at stake is NOT hearing this information. What's so critical about this topic? Great teachers get their audiences to buy in to the importance of the topic. Likewise, a teacher who hints at a great pay-off can establish rapport

SYAHIDA BT SUFFIAN 2 ENGLISH LANGUAGE quickly. If an audience knows what they will learn, how they might be changed, how the topic makes a difference in their lives and in the world, they will engage immediately 2. Teacher might suggest the class pause and write down one or two things that have been most important so far. Finally, communicators check for understanding when they say in other words, or if they make analogies to explain points to check on pupils understanding. 3. Educate your students about what it really means to work in groups. Teach them how working with others holds them accountable. It is also a good idea to set up standards for group work in your classroom. Encourage students to hold each other accountable by limiting the amount of teacher facilitation. This will help students find ways to solve problems on their own and support one another during the process. Period of implementing : Teacher should be alert throughout the whole lesson Follow-up actions : I will collaborate with other successful teachers on how to create rapport with pupils and do some research on building rapport. Evaluation on the success : Teacher can evaluate whether she is successful or not in building rapport when she has genuine desire to serve pupils and understand them, and the willingness to inhabit their point of view and invite them into yours.
