CLUB CONNECTION
Prized Poultry is but one passion of Denvers Andie Rupple
LeeAndra( Andie)Ruppleis awesome. Having just turned 10 years old, she towers over most of the kids in her 5th grade class, and still manages to get down on the floor to be with her beloved animals! Her height and love for animals are only the beginning of Andies awesomeness. As a member and Treasurer of the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club, she participated in and won many awards for her 2012 projects. For this year, Andie won 1st place at the Denver County Fair in Poultry, Photography and Junior Poultry Showmanship. Andie represented Denver at the Colorado State Fair, and even won the Junior. Showmanship competition in Poultry. Andie will tell you her Prize Winning Pullet, who goes by the name, Pretty Girl, is awesome too. A five month-old Black Australorp Pullet, Pretty Girl (and Andie) won Grand Champion English Class,of Breed (1st place) andGrand Champion in the Large Foul division. Fairly new to these types of competitions (just like Denvers 4H clubs), Andie managed to win even though other 4-Hers competing with her have years of experience! Andies mom Sancie attributes her daughters success to Andies dedicated practice schedule with her Australorp, Frizzle, rabbit and Guinea Pig, where she polishes up on showmanship skills and reads the project and fair standards, so she is ready for the judges. 4-H and animals is not the only place Andie puts her dedication. She training for the 1st Degree for her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, she plays the piano loves to paint, cook she has already picked her plums and apricots off the

4-H Volunteers Make The Difference

Becky brings heart to kids as Denver 4-H cooking leader
Becky previously worked for Mile High Youth Corps and has been working in youth development and national service for the past ten years. She is currently working on a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership through CSU Global. Being a 4-H Volunteer has given Becky the opportunity to create meaningful relationships and lasting memories. It has also taught her the importance one persons role plays in other peoples lives. Out of the four Hs, Heart, Health, Head and Hands, Beckys favorite is heart, everything takes heart, you cant do anything without heart, said Becky. Denver 4-H is lucky to have the 2011 Denver 4-H Volunteer of the Year, sharing her time and skills with the youth in our community. Thank you Becky, for caring out the 4-H mission and making a positive change!

All About Becky

Name: Rebecca Revoal Age: 27 Time as volunteer: 3 years Whats Your H?: Heart Most important Life Skill: Its important to laugh at yourself rather than at others. Life is too short to worry about it. And taste everything What is the most challenging part of being a volunteer?: Not being able to do more! Impactful moment: Each week theres always a kid who chooses to stay after and help. They usually end up sharing their life stories, day stories, or teach me a new dance, etc. It seems like they just want their own moment with me. Its a crazy feeling but so worth it.

We would like to give a special thanks to a Denver 4-H volunteer Becky Revoal. Becky has been instrumental in creating a sustainable 4-H program at St. Charles Recreation Center. She has gone abroad for a time, but her impact has been great, as she inspired and collaborated with youth at Denver 4-H for years. For 2 hours its not about me, I come in and listen the kids stories and we make something, said Becky while preparing cooking class.

4-H Youth
Eleven year old Amena shares bright ideas for 4H program
respect towards others and attentiveness in program. Amena participates in cooking and in art at St. Charles Recreation Center. She is a strong leader and is always willing to show the new students how to complete various tasks, says cooking leader Becky. Amenas favorite class is cooking because she likes making new things and wants to create a cook book using the recipes from 4H cooking class. All the proceeds would go to ingredients for more fun recipes and for fun outings with the whole class. Amena added that participating in 4-H projects is really fun! Keep up the great work Amena!

Campus Connection
The Colorado State University College of Natural Sciences Education & Outreach Center is an incubator for innovation in STEM education. It serves both CSU and K-12 students and faculty through a wide variety of programs. A common thread that weaves through all of the programs is increasing the quality, quantity, and diversity of students in STEM disciplines. Particular emphasis is on finding new ways to promote scientific creativity and innovation, attributes essential for global competitiveness in the 21st century. Many of these programs focus on providing authentic scientific research experiences for both learners and teachers. The Education & Outreach Center builds on 20 years of experience gained by the former Center for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education, which among other things, introduced the world to sustainable and safe science education through small-scale chemistry.
