This action corrects sketches (h) and (i) of Fig. PG-33.2 that show doublesided welded joints with unshaded squares at the mid-wall root giving a false appearance of failure to achieve full penetration. The Figures contain references to other paragraphs that are not mentioned in PG-58 The Figure is revised by adding a control valve for the recirculation pump (if used). Lower case m in the word manufacturer was capitalized This action corrected the reference of PG-67.7 (Which was deleted in the 2009 Addenda) in PG-8.4.1.2 from PG-67.7 to PG-73.3.4

Further to the clarification made by ASME that Forewords are not part of the Code, a proposal was developed to clean up the Forewords of all Code books by moving those portions of previous Forewords, that are often presumed to be mandatory and enforceable, into the main body of the Code books. The term average stress is deleted from PG-22.1 as it is not defined anywhere in the Code. It is important to note that Weld Strength referred in PW-15 and Strength Weld referred in paragraphs PG27.4.4 Note 4 & A-317.3(d) Note 4 are not synonymous terms.

PG-28

28

PG-31.2

This action basically brings the external pressure design rules of PFT-51 to a general paragraph of the Code book to make them more generic and applicable for all cylindrical components under exteral pressure, not only for furnaces and tubes of firetube boilers The symbol for gasket moment arm h[sub g] in PG31.2 has been revised to make it consistent with the way it is shown in Figure PG31.

PG-33.1, A-67

The original intent of this paragraph was to limit the maximum opening size(to be exempted from compensation calculations) as the larger of : d max or the smaller of 1/4 times the inside diameter of the shell or header, or 2 3/8(60mm). When a nozzle as shown in Fig. PG-33.2, Sketches (d), (e-1), (f), (g), (h), and (i) is inserted into the vessel wall with the nozzle material of lower strength compared to the vessel wall, the nozzle reinforcement equations in Fig. PG-33.1 for the area available in the shell, A1, do not compensate for the lower strength of the inserted nozzle beyond the nozzle neck(t[sub n]). The words for nozzle wall inserted through the vessel wall in the definition of fr l in PG-33.3 appear to limit fr l only to those situations where the nozzle wall is inserted through the vessel wall, while equations for abutting nozzle in Figure PG-33.1 use the stress ratio fr l.

Previously, PG-52.3 did not clearly indicate clearly whether the designer is permitted to establish an equivalent longitudinal efficiency for circumferential ligaments by doubling the circumferential efficiency for use in the design formula of PG-27.2.2, A-125 & A-317. In PG-53.3, the Figure is redesignated as Fig. PG-53.3 in order to keep the figure and the referencing paragraph consistent. A new requirement to provide manual operational access from the floor is added to PG-60.1.6. A new paragraph(PG-67.2.7) was added in the 2010 Edition to address the following condition. (1) An editorial correction is made to the table in PG72.2. (2) Cross-references to A300 are corrected to A301 & A-302. The reference to A-300 has been corrected to A301 & A-302. The word steel is deleted where it used to appear before the word economizer to clarify that Section I rules apply to all Economizers whether they are steel or not, if they are required to be built to Section I requirements.

Table PG-20

A new paragraph was added to PG-112.2.3 in the 2010 Edition but incorrectly labeled as PG112.2.4. The upper temperature 425 deg. F was changed to 1425 deg. F PW-28.2 is revised to allow volumetric NDE for welder performance qualification. A new Nonmandatory Appendix (A-101) is added to Section I to address subcritical post weld heat treatment heating and cooling rates for Section I materials, as general guidance. In addition to the half bead method, as a result of this revision, Manufacturers and users can now choose from half bead (PW-40.3.4(f)(1)) or temper bead (PW-40.3.4(f)(2)) methods to perform weld repairs to P-No.3 Group Nos. 1 & 2 materials without having to repeat PWHT. PW-53 has been editorially corrected to improve the overall clarity of the paragraph.
