From the Burke County Board of Education Board ChairmanJohnny Jenkins Vice ChairmanGreg Chandler Board MembersRuby Saxon-Myles, Lynn Crews & Larry Preston Rudy FalanaSuperintendent of Schools and Burke County High School
Sam Adkins-Principal
Welcome to the "Bear Den" and another exciting year of Burke County High School football! I first want to thank you for your continued support of BCHS athletics and your presence at tonight's game. At Burke County High School and throughout our community, we take a tremendous amount of pride and satisfaction at the quality of our athletic programs. Whether it is a "Purple Hurricane" of Waynesboro High School or now as a "Bear" of Burke County High School, we all relish in the excitement and tradition of high school athletics. There aren't many things that can increase a community's sense of pride and celebration than that of a successful team, whether it's on the gridiron, court, or field. Here at Burke County High School, our desire is to excel in everything we do. Our goal is to excel academically, athletically, and in the arts. We want to represent Burke County High School, our school district, and our loyal community to the best of our ability. If you would like to help support our school in any way, please feel free to contact our school office or join one of our athletic booster clubs. Put on your "Bear" clothing, pick up some boiled peanuts from our concession stand, and enjoy all the excitement of tonight's game including our marching band, "The Pride of Burke County" and our fantastic squad of BCHS Cheerleaders. There's nothing better than Friday night football in the Bear Den! Again, thank you for your continued support of Burke County High School and lets get out there and defend our state championship! GO BEARS! Sam Adkins, Principal
At the helm of Burke County High School is Mr. Sam Adkins. As the Principal, Mr. Adkins is dedicated to achieving excellence in all areas of student-life. Under his leadership, academic gains have been evidenced including significant gains in the Georgia High School Graduation Test, End of Course Tests, and the Graduation Rate. New and innovative research-based instructional strategies are not uncommon on the BCHS campus as a means to ensure that students receive the best possible education. His focus on student achievement transcends the classroom in all areas. Mr. Adkins is dedicated to seeing that each program at Burke County High School is elevated to a standard of excellence. Mr. Adkins and his family relocated to Waynesboro in 2001 and he served as an Assistant Principal at Burke County High School. He later served as Principal at SGA Elementary School before returning as the Principal at Burke County High School. He is married to Tabatha Adkins, and their family consists of Ben (29) and Lindsey Adkins (married; Tyler, TX), Beth (26) and Russell Minton (married; Evans, GA), Bailee (16), Carly (Deceased), and Preston (9).

We Believe:
Children are our first priority. All students can learn and be successful. Students learn best in a safe, comfortable, caring environment. High expectations yield high results. All students must be enriched, inspired, and challenged academically in order to become selfsufficient, responsible, life-long learners who are prepared for life's pursuits. All individuals have value, worth, and dignity. Quality education is essential for survival and advancement of our community and our entire society. Data-based decision-making and research-based practices are essential for quality instruction. A strong partnership among employees, students, families, and the community is essential for optimal student achievement. The recruitment, hiring, and retention of a highly qualified faculty, staff, and administration is vital to successful schools. Building leadership capacity and maximizing the potential of all employees is accomplished through continuous and relevant professional learning.
