11:58 I received a digital pagefrom Arapahoe County Sheriff'sOffice (AeSO)

Investigator Archie Singleton to call him at 303 795-4961 ASAP,
12:00 I telephoned Investigator Singleton from the JusticeCenter Detention

Facility, Investigator Singleton advises me to respond to Columbine High
School, He tells methat this is a full bomb squad respond, That shots
havebeenfired and bombs (handgrenades) havedetonated at the school.
12: 15 I responded to the scene code 3 (Westbound on C-470 from 1·25and

County LineRoad), While enroute, I hearon the ACSO radio that the
ACSO Bomb Squad has been sent to the area of SouthWadsworth
Boulevard between Chatfield andKen Caryle Avenue, I begin heading to
the Wadsworth location to form up withthe squad,
While in route, I hear on the radio that entry has beenmade into the
school. I hear at least threepersons are down(fromgunfire),
12:25 I hear the ACSO Bomb Squad clear from the Wadsworth scene, I contact
dispatch to confirm where I am to respond, I am advised per Investigator
Singleton to respond to Coal Mine Roadand SouthPierce Street.
12:40 I arrived on scene (Coal Mine and Pierce). I am unable to locate the squad.
I learn that the ACSO Bomb Squad is stagedat Leawood Elementary and
proceed south on South Pierce Street.
I passthe check point at SouthPierce and West Weaver Avenue. I am

directed ahead towards Columbine High School (south side). Lobserve
officers withlongguns. shotguns and handguns out, all behind cover, I
pull to the side of the road and motion a Jefferson County Sheriff's
Office(JCSO) Sergeant over to my vehicle and ask him how to get to the
staging area. for thebomb squad.
He tells metheyare at Leawood Elementary and directsme to go to the

next streetWest FairDrive and take a right. Leawood Elementary is right
there He advises me to, "gun it and make a right."
12:50 I arrive in the areaof West Fair Drive and Marshall COUrl. I contact two
Denver Police Detectives and ask whereLeawood Elementary school is
located. They do not know, I locate the school in my map book and
proceedtowardsthe school. I arrive in the area ofLeawoodDrive and Jay
Court. I talk to a uniformed motorcycle officer who is directing traffic and

he advises me to turn around and stage at the west end of Leawood Drive.
I drivewest on Leawood Drive. The road is full of cars so I park and
walk in towards the scene. I locatethe AC SO Bomb Squad truck and team
members, I am advised to bring my car into the parking area (south
parking lot of Clement Park).
13:30 Sergeant ScottLinne and I are assigned to respond to

Street (the home of possible suspect Eric Harris). It has been reported
that a strong odor of possibly gasoline is inside the house especially in the
area of the attached garage.
13:45 Sergeant Linne and I arrive on scene. Sheridan Lieutenant John

Iantomo is on scene as well as other officers. Littleton Fire 12 is also on
scene.
Sergeant Linne and I contact Iantorno and he tellsus that there is a strong
odor of gasoline throughout the house. The househas not been cleared.
I contact LittletonFire and learnthey have shut off all power and natural
gas to the home, I havethemchargea line priorto Sergeant Linne and I
making entryinto the home,
The odor of gasoline can be detected outside the residence.
I have an AIM 3250 gas meter to detect explosive levels within the house.
We check the upper level and heara noise coming from the basement area.
We request additional assistance and two other officers (Iantorno and
another unknown officer) respond to assist.
The basement area is cleared and no oneis found. The noiseis determined
to possibly be the wind.
Sergeant Linne and I locate possible explosive devices and other explosive
components in Eric Harris' room.
The garage areais checked and larder everyone out because the AIM
meter alertsthat there is an explosive atmosphere in the garage.

I talk to Littleton Fire'ACSO Posse Deputy Rick Young via radio and
advise bini I need additional assistance before entry into me garage area due
to the hazardous atmosphere.
14:10 JCSO Deputy GlenGrove arrives on scene. We make entry into me

garagearea in bunker gear andairpaeks, uponchecking the garage we find
two large red and black plastic jugs (AMP lane conditioner) and a soft
soap bottle in a plastic crate.
We determine that the garage door is safe to open. We open the garage and
vent it. The AIM meter shows the area to no longer be an explosive
atmosphere.
1510 JCSO DeputyGrove and Sergeant Linne collect explosive devices. We

clearscene.
1610 LittletonFireiACSO Posse Deputy Rick Young and I are assigned to mark
and photograph explosive evidence in Columbine library. We begin
marking and photographing on the west sideof me building outside the
library.
We are told to stop when a vehicle (black BMW • later identified as

Klebold's car) is found with what appears to be a pipe bomb attached to a
20 pound propanecylinder and a clock.
1800 Littleton Fire/ACSO Posse Deputy RickYoung and I resume marking and
photographing me library while ACSO Sergeant Scott Linne and JeSO
Deputy Mike Guerra, in bomb suits, collect live lEDs found in the library.
ACSO Sergeant Joe Dempsey acts as the safety officer.
1900 It is decided that a second checkof me library should be made. Five to six
bomb technicians cheek the library for any potential lEDs missed in the
first check.
Young and I stand by in hallway (north entrance to library) and are ready
to mark and photograph any additional items found.
2000 Bombteamstake break. During breaka "brainstorming" session is

conducted between the Bomb teams.

2145 I assist JCSO Deputy Grove by driving robot out of cafeteria. Robot's
cable has become entangled in a chair andJCSO Grove must ulltallgle cable
by hand.
2220 ACSO Investigator Dan Davis and I donn bomb suits and begin to collect
pipe bomb found in car located nearthe south entrance to the school. The
lED is placed safely into the Denver Bombtrucks containment trailer.
2230 ACSO Investigator Dan Davis and I collect the pipe bomb removed by
the JCSO bomb robot It is safely put into the Denver Bomb trucks
containment trailer.
2240 ACSO Investigator Dan Davis and I continue to collect pipe bombs found
in the black BMW The first 6 go into the containment vessel safely. The
last pipe bomb detonates as I put the bomb into the containment vessel.
1 see the fusing mechanism ignite andbegin to step off the trailer. I yell to
Davis, "Get down! Get down!" Davis helps me off the trailer and we go
to the ground as the first pipebomb detonates. We are on the ground
when2 more explosions are beard.
SergeantDempsey and Sergeant Linne run up and help us to our feet.
I am checked by Littletonparamedics. Noone is injured.

Investigator Wayne Belohvey, ACSO Investigator Steve Thone and I are
assigned to the south parking area of Clement Park. We are to clear
vehicles previously marked by members of the Colorado Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) containing suspicious bags. About 10 cars are
checked.
No improvised explosives were found. Area cleared without incident.
1130 ACSO Bomb Squad requested ACSO Bombtruck be sent to Deer Creek
Canyon (suspect Dylan Klebold's residence). I send Investigator Thone
with the Bomb truck and trailer,
1330 Released from scene by JCSO DeputyMike Guerra.
I contact ACSO CaptainBob Armstrong and JCSO Lieutenant

BombSquad was requested to respond to Columbine HighSchool to assist with
numerous explosive devices inside the sdlooL As a member of the bomb squadI
assisted in the fOUowing:
Sgt. BucllIer and I went to the~S to search the house ,forexplosives

only,prior to a team ofinvestigators searcbillg the house with a searchand seizure
WlllTlllll.
During this search we located one device in the downstairs bedroomon a dresser.This
device appeared to be a C02 canister that hadbeen improvised to be all explosive device.
Thisdevice was left in place and laterrecovered by Jeffilrson CountyS.O. bomb
teclmicians. While looking through this bedroomI noticed a piece ofwhite 1ined paper,
in plainview, with a drawing on it. This drawing was in pencil and appeared to have been
done with a ruler or other straightedge type of iDstrumeIlt. This drawing appeered to be
ofa large building and was similar, in my opinion, to Columbine High SchooL This
drawing was the top piece ofpaper in a stack of papers that were paper clipped together,
which wasOft a nightstand next to the bed. j did not look al any of'tbe other papers, but
did point themout to a Jeffilrson County Deputy.
We then c:ol'llinued searching the house and when we got close to the garage I c:ould smeR
a strong odorof gasoline. Sgt. EuclIler had IUl Aim Meter, that detected such a strong
presence of gasolille, he stated it was not safe to be in the house. A Jeffilrson County
BombTecbnician, Glen Groves, anived to IlS$i$t. Sgt. Euc:bler and Grovesput air packs
on and vented the garage to make it safe, wblcb was completed with no probIems.
After the seIucb of the house wascompleted fur explosive devices we returnedto the
school.
At approximately S:OO PM a Jeffilrson CountyBombTeclmiciall and I put bomb suits on

and entered the library area to clear it ofexplosive devires. The infbmlatinn givento us
was tbal most ofthe devices had beenflagged by Sgt. Dempsey and other technicians
who had walked through the library just to visually ClCIIIUinc the area. I went tim to what
appeared to be one ofthe suspects, we.arlog blackBOU paIlUl and a black t-sbirt, and
removed eight explosive devices form his left pant side pocket. The first device I removed
WlIll a p~ bomb, completely wrapped in gray duct tape, with a fuse surrollllded by

We then walked through the rest of the Iibnuy pided by Sgt. Dempsey, Sgt. Buchler and
RickYoungwho were taking pictures and docUIDelltlng where the devices were tound. I
recovered seven more devices
I taped each of those dovi<:es
in the .'ftag bag." We thencarried the "tag bag" outside and placed it on the ground. We
were then 1'lIIllO'IICd from the bomb suits.
Mynext assignment camea short time later afiera suspected device was found ina
vehicle. This veblcle _ in the south parking lot and apparently registered to aDO of the
suspect'stiunily. This device Wall in the blu:ksea1afthevehWIe tight behind the driver's
seat. According to DelIver PD bomb too!mieian Dave Haley, the device had a clock
attached to it and possibly a CIllI of gasoline. I _assigned, along with a Denver PD
bomb technician to set up two pan dJslupters. The first disrupter WlIB loaded with water
and the second _loaded with an "avon"round. We placed the disrupters so the first
one withwater would break the rearpassenger side window and the second one would
disrupt the device by removing or destroying theclockthat was attached to this de~.
After we set the disrupters we moved back to a salil distance while the disrupters were
initiated. After the disruPters were used, I walked back to the vehicle, wblch WlIB a black
BMW, and lookediIlside and observed tile clockbad been removed fromthe device, but I
nowcould see the end of wbat appeaml to be a large pipe bomb. I then obtained a digital
CIIIIlIl1'Il from Riek Yoq and took two pictures of the pipe bomband wbat remained of
tile JItst device. I then went back 10 the staging lll'Ca and was removed from the bomb suit.
Therest of this vehicle and the devices were bandied by Sgt. Dempsey and another
Denver PD bomb technician.
After all the devices wereremo'llCd fromthe BMW, another vcb.icle was tound with at
Ieasl one device in it. This vehicle and it's contents were bandied by other bomb
teclmicians.
My noxt assignment WlIS after a device functioned while Teclmician Buchler was putting it
intothe Denver PoliceDcpartmenI bomb trailer. This explosion threw out fi.ftclln devices,
someofwblch also detonated. TechIlician Singleton aIld I were assigned to retrieve these
items and put them back into the trailer. I first used a water fireextiquisber to wet down
the iIlside of the trailer aIld theother devices that were left in the trailer. Prior to picking
up the fi.ftclln devices that had blownout ofthe lmiIcr, Technician Sillgleton andI
rendered llIlfil seven other devices that were remo'llCd from the BMW .

On Tuesday, April 20, 1999at approximately 12:15 PM,I was requested to respond to
the areaof 8000BIk. Of South Wadsworth Blvd. in IlIllncorporaled Jeffetson County to
assist in the investigation of explosion. WbcnI arrived I observed a gtaSS III'Cll,
approximately 25' x 25', that bad been burned. Around this III'Cll, Investigator Jeff
Britcgam and I found the remains ofwbat appeared to be a clO<lk. batteries, and two end
caps. These end ClIplI weremetal und appeared to have been used in a pipe bomb. I was
only on scene for a short time, but it appeared to me there was at leastone backpack that
contained an ~siw deviceand also somekiod of acceIoerant. This devioe appeared to
also haw a clock in it, probably an alarm clock as we found the type of beDs nonnally
found in the old round style of alarm clocks. I took some ofthe remaining parts ofthe
clock, batteries, and a mw otber itemsfromthe _ backto Columbine HighSehoolso
tile other Bomb Technicialls could _ them. TIle lICeIlll WlIS left with a member oftbe

On Wednesday, April 21, 1999 members of the ArapahoeCountyBomb Squad arrived at
the Columbillll High School Collll'lllllld Post at~ and were
assigned to _ist a setll'Ch of a house located Jefferson County,
Colorado. The Arapahoe Colll'lty BombSquad had bee n a mutual aid llSlllst since
Tuesday,April20, 1999due to the shootings and the large amoUllt of Illq)losives found at
the high school. Sgt. loe Dempsey, lllW>stiga!or ArI11lie Singleton, FBI Agent Greg
Sexton, andmyselfresponded to theCougar Road address to assist Investigators trom the
Jefferson County Sheritl's Office with the search. Once the Jefferson County
Investigators anived with the search and sel2:uro wamwt the BombSquadmembers
conducted a search for lilly explosive or dangemll5 devices, In one bedroom. Ioeated in
the north-west comer ofthe upstaiIs, Sgt.. ~ found a gray colored metal box in
the l:1oset that rontailled six Illq)losive devices. These devices consisted oftwo pipe
bombs and four CO2 canisters that had been improvised to be explosivedevices. All of
thesedevices appearedto be exactlythe same as the devices found in the school. These
were the onlyexplosive devicesfound in the bouse. These items were removed by me
while wearing the FBI bomb suit. The lllllJllbers ofthe bomb squad also removed a large
amount offireworks that _located in a file cabinet drawer in the same bedroom.
These fireworks consisted ofpop bottle wckets, ~ers, and other types of small
fireworks. Investigator Singleton found somesma11 items in the woodsjust to the east of
the tennis courts that appeared to have been the remainsofan explosion. These items
were pointed out to the inveSllgatorll for eelleetion, The explosivedevices were
lJ:lUlSported to the Jefferson County Range in ACSO's trailer.
Once at the range we assisted bombteelmieiaDs ll'Om the JeffersonCounty SherilJ"s

Office and the Denver Police Deptii lmellt in destroying the CO2 devices. the proplll1C
devices and the molatov cocktail devices that were recovered trom the school, the
suspects vehicles. and the suspect's houses. We then used a PlII1 disruptor to remove the
endcaps ll'Om the pipe bombs. The powder and the rcmalnsof the pipes were taken as
evidence by the Jefferson County Sheriff'sOffice. Oneofthc pipe bombs that was
disrupted had 11 smalJer pipe bomb inside. We attemp(edto disru.pt this pipe bomb. but
when the avon round bit the end cap the pipe bomb detollllted. After an the devices were
either destroyedor disrupted the ACSO bombsquad Ietumed to ACSO and quit work for
the day.

On 04/20199, at about 1145 hours, the Arapahoe County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad
was requested to respond to Columbine High School, 620I S. Pierce Street, to assist the
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad with numerous explosive devices inside
the school.
This Investigatoris a member of the Arapahoe County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad and
assisted with the following:
At about 1600 hours, DeaverPolice Department Bomb TechnicianALEX WOOD and I

put our bomb suits on and disrupted a device outside the double doors on the southwest
side of the school, on the upper level.
This item was disrupted. Bomb Technician WOOD and I entered the breezewa
the two doors on the southwest corner.
Tape was placed over the match heads and then the items were placed into a bomb blast
bag. TIle bag was then sealed up and removed to the outside of the school.
At ahout2300 hours, a device malfunctioned on Bomb Technician RICH EUCHLER

while he was putting it into the DenverPolice Department bomb trailer. This explosion
threw about fifteen devices out of the bomb trailer. Some of these devices did detonate.
BombTechnicianSCOTT LINNE and I put on our bomb suits to retrieve these items and
put them back into the trailer. TechnicianLINNEfirst used a water fire extinguisher to
wet down the inside of the trailer and the other devices, which were left in the trailer.
This was done prior to picking up the fifteen devicesthat had been blown out of the
trailer.

On 4/20/99, at approximately 1115 hours, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, armed with a
variety of destructive devices and four firearms, began an assault an the faculty and
students of Columbine High School, located at 6201 S, Pierce St,! Littleton, Colorado.
Including Harris and Klebold a total of 15 fatalities result from gunshot wounds, Also an
undetermined amount of damage is done to the Columbine High scholl Building, as well as
additional persons injured by fragmentation devices and gunshot wounds.
NARRATIVE;
1. On 4/20/99, at approximately 1115 hours, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Seniors at
Columbine High SChool, began shooting at students in the southwest parking loc of
columbine High School, Prior to commencing the shooting; Harris and Klebold, set a

Several different types of devices were used. Th

propane canisters. The devices on many of the propane canisters did etona e

containers were heavily wrapped ~n duct tape, Later when the tape was removed,
additional fragmentation was revealed to be attached to the underside of the duct
tape.
Additional, similar devices were later recovered from both suspects carS and susp~
en Also used in the attach w e r e ~ O l ails, which were made from~
. . , filled with gasoline, with duct taped to the side of the
an a rag stuffed in the top of e 0 t e bottles. These devices were both
detonated and also recovered from the suspects vehicles.
Harris and Klebold were armed each with a twelve gauge 'Isawed-off"shocgun. Harris a
pump ac~ion and Klebold a double barrel. Harris also had an Intratec 9mm, and Klebold
a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. Both were wearing bandaleros with a large number of twelve
gauge rounds, and additional destructive devices (C02 cartridge variety)/ were removed
from the auspeets bodies. Both died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head,
and Were found in the library with the bodies of ten oCher students.
7. Also, recovered from the suspects vehicles were several containers of gasoline/ which
appeared to be used in conjunction with the timer activated propane bombs and
addieional destruccive devices found in the1r vehicles.
At approximately 2100 hours, SA Traver assisted in a search warrsnt
residence/ located at Littleton, Colorado. Earlier in SA

recovered. Prior to entering nltial consent

vented due to gas fumes that the environment within the garage
limits for gasoline.
9 During the warrant additional devices were found; as well as a partial shotgun barrel,
pipe bomb debris and fragments, buckshot, hobby fuse, multiple class C fireworks,
diagrams of the High School, a dia~i chronicling the plan going oack at least 10
months, to use firearms and destructive devices on students and faculty at the school,
as well as what component$ each destructive device had been manufactured from, how
many had been made, what date completed, and ratings from when they had been tested j
as well as "hit"lists. napalm tests, diagrams of how to carry the weapons, ammo and
devices on their persons, how and when they acquired firearms, and the reasons for
planning and carrying out their rampage,
10, Later that same evening and into the next day, ATF CBS's assiseed local SWAT teams
with a sweep of every room of the Columbine High school.
11, On 4/21/99, ATF agents assisted with the collection of evidence and bomb debris, found
in the parkins lots of the High School and the areas just outside of the building.
12. AT?, FSI. Jefferson County Sheriff'S Department, the Colorado State Patrol, and the
Colorado Bureau of Investigation, formed a task foree. to investi9ate this incident.
AT? canines and CES's have been used to sweep the Columbine High School as well as I
the lockers, and backpacks found ac the High School. (All lockers and backpacKs were
hand searche~jAl$o the parking lots, roof and area immediately surrounding the High
School. ATF Canines and CES's have also assisted in the sweeps of other schools in
the: area.

14. ATF agents have also been utilized in pursuing any and all leads relating to the
destructive devices and the manufacture of these devices. As of 5/3/99, it has been
estimated by investigators and bomb squad personnel, that at least 67 destructive
devices had either been, detonated, recovered, or rendered safe.
15. At the request of the Jefferson County Sheriff'. Department, all explosive and
incendiary evidence is to be forwarded to ~he ATF Lab.

found in suspects' vehicles, homes. and at the school eould have been purchased.
SYNOPSIS.
During the two week period following the Coluwbine High School shooting/bombing, a check
was made with local d~scount and hardware stores, for the availability and accessihility
of items and components recovered from the High School; the suspects vehicles, and the
suspects homes, A check was made for the following components; 1.25, 2.5, and S gallon
Blit~ brand plastic gas containers; two 1 gallon Crown brand Kerosene eontainersi 3 Metal
Coleman brand, 1 gallon Coleman fuel cans, two 1 pound Coleman brand propane bottles;
galvanized pipe, manufactured in Thailand; CO2 cartridges; Westclock brand alarm clocks;
2.$ Gallen Visflo AMP solid bowling lane finish containerSi black scranoed speaker wire;
12 gauge shotguns shells with #8 buckshot.
NARRATIVE;
1. ACE Hardware, carried the following components: CO, cartridges, 1 Pound Coleman
Propane bottles, 1 gallon Coleman Fuel containers.
2. Walmart carried the following components; 1.25; 2.5,and S gallon Blitz gas containers,
1 pound Coleman propane bottles, 1 gallon Coleman fuel containers, 12 gauge shotgun
ammunition with #8 buckshot; the two model Westclocks that were recovered from Harris'
vehicle and residence, C02 cartridges/ and other assorted buckshot.
K-Mart earried the following components: 1.25, 2.5, and 5 gallon Blitz gas containers,
1 gallon Coleman fuel containers, 1 pound Coleman propane containers/ C02 cartridges,
and assorted bucKshot.
4, TAROET carried the following components: assorted Blitz gas c?ntainera, 1 Coleman
propane bottles.

5. Bellview Lanes Bowling Alley; were Harris had a bowling class, kept the 39% visflo 100%
solid AMF lane conditioner, was kept in an unsecured closet at the alley and the empty
containers were discarded in dumpsters on the Northeast side of the business.
6. BUilders Square carried the following components: assorted Blit~ gas containers.
7. Home Depot carried the following components: Blitz gas containers.
a. Rome Base carried the following components: Blit~ gas containers, and galvanized plpe
manufaeeured in Thailand.
9. Hugh M. Woods carried the following components: 1 pound Coleman propane bottles.
10. Sentry Hardware and Lumber carr~ed the following components: none.
11. True value Hardware carried the following components: Blitz brand gas containers. 1
gallon Coleman fuel cans, 1 pound Coleman propane fuel containers.
Some components could not be checked, such as the pipe and the C02 cartridges, due to the
fact that these devices were heavily wrapped in duct tape and were not to be disturbed
until forensic lab examination has been completedflatent prints). Also, no receipts, or
store labels were recovered in relation to the components recovered.
12. A check with Radio Shack revealed that Harris had purchased stranded speaker wire on
1/24/99, at the Souchwest plaza location~ Stranded speaker Wire was recovered from
devices at Harris's resicence and vehicle.

pyrotechnic safely fuse willun the Denver area.Two currentretailers (Rocky mountain Fireworks and
Deans Guns)of this product were located. One contact(CotparHobbies-West) ceased distributing the fuse
aboUI 9198. In addioon one subject in Brightonwhopurcbased a commercialvolume (600-ft roll) was
identified. Additional privateand commercial (notfor resale) purchasers were identified throughcontact
with the manufactures and distributorsof this product. An induslIy member reported that product
manufactured by Firefox Enterpriseswas sold at Denverarea gun snows. A completelist of'Firefex
customers from 11198 on was obtained

STATEMENTS OF FACT
Numerous hobby shops and all fireworks distributors in the Denvermetro area were contacted. Beyond
commercial and hobby pyrotechnicians and toy cannon, there are no uses for this product. It is not used
and its use is discouraged for use WIth hobby rockets such as the ESTESproducts.
Estes was contacted about the production of this productand staled that they did not ever make it
However, MarY Roberts at Estes provided me with a list (exhibit 1) of manufactures and distributors of this
productculled from the 1997North American Fireworks Trade Directory (Directory) Attempts were
made to contact all listed and obtain their Colorado customer lists.
These contactsrevealed only one customer who further retailed that product and thai was
Stonebreaker/Rocky Mountain Fireworks at 5401 Federal Blvd. Denver, CO 303455-1139 POC Roger
Hughes When contacted Mr Hughesstated thai theydid distribute fuse at retail and also made commercial

Additionally Colpar Hobbies-WesI335; S wadsworth Lakewood, CO 303-988-5157 stated that they
carried fuse until approximately 7198 Afterthai date theyreferred inquirersto Deans
FirefoxEnterprises of Pocatello Idaho provided the invoice forone customer Ul BrighlOll Colorado who
purchased a 600-ft. roll of fuse on 3130/99 A copyof this invoice is attached (exhibtt2). They also
provided a list cfall fuse customers since 11/98whichis also attached(exhibit 3)
American VISCO fuse had only one customer in Colorado and thai was Stoneoreaker/Rocky Mountain
Fireworks.
Meramec Fuseprovided fuse only10 Stone Co Trinidad. CO an expolsives licenseewho manufactures pest
control devices and Ensign Bickfordalso an explosives licensee. Currently the E<lS1gn-Bickford plant in
LOUViers, CO has only. caretaker staff involved in dismantling the plant
Newcc Products manufactures for it's ownuse.
Nu-Tec linear Fuse has not carriedthis productfOI yearsbut did provided a list of past customers (exhibit
4), none of wluch are in Colorado or nearer then Kansas.
Mid-Southl'ytOlechnics also reponed no Colorado customers.

Tubbs in the parkins lot of Dennys Re5taurant. 7575 West S(n, Lake~ood, Colorado. Mr
Tubbs stated ehst he was formerly employed at the Conoco Gas Stacion 7540 West Chatf:eld,
4ittlecon, Colorado, but is now unemployed. Mr. Tubbs is a white male, DOB: 01~20~i6 and
resides at 250. Moore street, Lakewood, Colorado, 8012S. Mr. Tubb. lo.ted hi. pager
number as 303~3l0-0920 and cellular phone number 3Q3-99$-4024. He also lisced his mothers
telephone number .s 303-231-8523,
1, Mr. Tubbs stated that on the morning of April 20/ 1999, he was employed as a
clerk/cashier at the conoco Gas Station 7540 West Chatfield, Littleton, Colorado. He
further stated that at about 9:30 am on that date, a white male entered the store and
asked to purchase two (21 propane eanks. Mr. Tubbs d~~eribes the white male as being
about 16 or 17 years old, skinny, with blond hair and wearing jeans and a tee shir~,
2. Mr, Tubb. s,aeed that the teenager paid for the purchase of the propane tank. with
twenty dollar bills. Mr. Tu1::Jbs stated that: "Blue Rhino" propane tanks are the brand of
's sold at the Conoco Gas Station. Mr. TUbbs .tated thae he then gave the toenager his

responded, "sure'·. Mr. Tubbs stated that this sale seemed strange because he had only

3, M~ Tubbs stated that after the sale of ehe propane tanks! he asked another employee
named Stan Gall to go outside with the customer, unlock the propane tank cage and gee t~o
propane tanks. Mr, Tubbs stated that it was store policy that he could not leave the
store unattanded which is why he did not leave the store and get the propane tanks for the
c~$tomer, Mr. Tubbs stated that he did not See tne customer again. He stated that ~he
customer came into the store alone and he did not see what type of vehicle the customer
-was driV'ing.
4, Mr. Tubbs was given an admonition form related ~o Jefferson county Sheriff's
Department case number 99-7625. He was asked to read, date and sign the form as to a
request for h~m to reView photo lineups. Mr. Tubbs was then shown two (2; separate photo
lineups one of which contained a photo Eric Harris and the other of which contained a

Beeween April 27 1999, and May 1, 1999, the Ow~er/Managers and pertinent personnel of the
Army·Navy Surplus store, 3524 South Broadway, Englewood, Colorado, telephone number 303-
769-1827 were interviewed. These interviews were conducted based on information received
which indicated that Eric Harris, Oylan Kle~old, and other possible associates had
possibly purchased Coleman fuel, Coleman propane canisters! C02 cartridges, BOUs and oeher
items from the Army-Navy surplus on or about April 11, 1999. ttems taken as evidence at
the scene of the shooting at Columbine High School included one gallon Coleman fuel cans
and Coleman propane canisters with Army-Navy Surplus price tags still attached to them,

On April 27, 1999, SJA Gary R. Wurm, ATF, interviewed Steve Finer, Owner/Manager of the
Army-Navy Surplus store. Mr. Finer advised that he and his partners Own two Army~Navy
Surplus stores in the Denver metropolitan area. Besides the store on South Broadway. they
also own a store at 7560 Pecos, Denver. Colorado, telephone number 303-426~04e8. Mr.
Finer stated that although they have video cameraS in their stores which monitor the
cashier area and various other areas of the stores, the video tapes are recycled every 14
~~YSf therefore, ehey would not have the tape recordings for April 11, 1999.

On April 27 1999, S/A Wurm, interviewed Dave Karlson. Owner/Manager of the Army-Navy

Surplus store, Mr. Karlson was requested to review his records involving both cash and
credit card sales for April 11, 1999. as related to a sale on that date pertaining eo
Coleman fuel @ $3.99, Coleman propane @ $1.99, anus @ $24.99. Mr. Karlson advised that
the only way to check their sales was with the price of the item because they do not have
nsku numbers" assigned to the items for sale. an April 29, 1999, Mr. Karlson advised, sfA
Wurrn, that no sales of that type were recorded on April 11, 1999. from credit card sales.
He also advised that he had only been able to 19cate the roll of cash sales tape from cash
register # 3 and this roll also d~d not reflect the mentioned sale on April 11, 1999. Mr.
Karlson stated that he was unable to find the cash sales tapes from cash registers #1, #2,
or #4.

have worked on Sunday. April 11, 1999, Mr. Karlson scaeed that Donna Kehoe, Larry Nye,and

store. Ms. Kehoe stated that she had no particular recollection of transac~ions whieh
occurred on April 11, 1999 relating to Coleman fuel, Coleman propane, anus or CO2
cartridges. She stated that she has seen people in the store, on many occasions/ that
were dressed in trench coats. She added that she pays particular attention to these
individuals since they could easily steal items by hiding them under their coats, She
also stated that she does not specifically remember selling small containers of Coleman
propane to teenagers,

DOB, 06~07'70, home address: 4959 South Prince Court, #206, ~ittleton, Colorado, telephone
number 303-730~6147. ~he interview was conducted at the Army-Navy Surplus store. Mr.
Moore stated that he was on duty as manager of the Army-Navy Surplus s~ore on April 11,
1999. He stated that this store has a couple of kids that come in on a regUlar basis that
wear make-up around their eyes and wear trench coats. He added that he did not believe
that they were the two individuals IHarris/Klebold) that he had seen on television
reports. Mr. Moore could not provide any other info~aticn other than the fact that he
believed one of the aforementioned persons who wore the eye make-up had stolen a snu shirt
from the: store.

surplus store. He further stated that the military room is where the SDU clothes are
~ept. Mr. Lightfoot Stated that he probably sees 150 kids every day that look like the
two young men that he saw on tel~vision (HarrisJKleboldJ. He stated that he assists these
customers when they are looking for militar/ clothes, such as BOUs. He stated that young
children from the Alternative Homes For Youth program are constantly in the surplus store
buying aDUs e cc . He stated that t:hese youths are, "at; risk kids ll that are enrolled in a
wilderness survival program to show them jU$t how good of a life is available to them if
they seek to achieve it. Mr. Lightfoot could not provide information as to any particular
sales of items ort April 11, 1999.

~ated that he is a cashier at the surplus store. He stated that on Sunday, April 11,
1999, he would have been gn duty at the surplus store. Mr, Golder also stated that he
does not remembex selling any Coleman propane tanks in a long time. He also stated that
he has sold Coleman fuel maybe once in the lase two or three weeks and he remembers
selling the fuel to an older man and wOman. He stated that BOUs are sold $0 often that he
could not remember selling them to any specific persons. He stated that Sundays are so
extremely bUsy that it would be very hard to remember all of the sales made on that day.

male, DOB: 01-19-44. home address: 1804 Wese Crestline Avenue, Lietleton, Colorado, 60120,

Na~j Surplus store. Mr. Storey stated that he is a manager for the surplus store. He
stated that he works vario~s aays at the store as manager, but adoed that he always is on
duty on Sundays. M-r. Storey related that he no direct knowledge of sales. made- on Sunday,
April 11. 1999 since he does not actively check out customers at the cash registers. He
stated that he has seen some "'young kids" with trench coats and baggy clothes in the
surplus store within the last 1 1/2 months. He further stated that he watches these
persons very closely so that they are less likely to attempt to steal items from the
store.

On 04/20/99 at approx. 1125 hrs, a call for help was aired over Denver Police radio. The call
stated Jefferson County officers were taking fire at Columbine High School. Dispatch also
stated it was reported the suspects were inside the school and had hand grenades. I went to
Police HQ with Detective Haley to pickup our bomb truck. METRO/Swat called for our bomb
robot so both our Bomb truck and Robot truck were taken to Pierce and Bowles and staged
with other Metro area 80mb Units waiting for further instructions.
After SWAT Units made their initial sweeps the Denver Bomb Unit was called to assist at the
Jst entrance of the school. I assisted with the search to locate explosive devices inside the
school and In the parking lot areas. I was on scene with other members of the Denver Bomb
Unit until approx. 0030 hrs. Our effort was directed toward locating and disarming unexploded
devices in the school and south parking lot.
On 04/21199 I returned to the school at approx, 0800 hrs. I assisted with a further search of
the school and parking lots. The Denver Bomb Unit, along with two Jefferson County Bomb
Unit members, then transported the unexploded devices that had been placed In Denver Bomb
trailer to the Jefferson County Bomb Range where they were made safe. This operation was
concluded at approx. 1900 hrs.

On April 20, 1999, at approximately 12:00 Noon, I was notified by Sgt. William Chew that the
Jefferson County Sheriffs Department was requesting our Bomb Squad to respond to Columbine
High School on a situation involving explosive devices. Upon my arrival at epproximately 12:20 P/M I
learned that a hostagelbarricade situation was In progress within the school. After considering the
possible magnitude of this event, I notified the members ofthe Intelligence Section to immediately
respond to that location and assist with the scene and follow-up.
~hortly after my arrival it was apparent that numerous students and faculty needed to be evacuated
m the school. As there were numerous personnel from several law enforcement agencies on the
scene, I gathered a number of them to work with me in evacuating the school from the east side
doors. Several faculty members were utilized to help identify good guy/bad guy from the student
population. To expeditetheir safe removal, I had a fire department member cut a hole in a residence
fence on S. Pierce Streetwhere the students could be taken through a yard and onto the residential
street immediately east of S. Pierce SI.
My next actions concerned establishing a cadre of detectives to accompany injured students in the
awaiting ambulances, This was done so as to establish a chain of custody, obtain immediate witness
statements, etc. To my knOWledge the only Denver Detective that accompanied an injured student
was Detective Joel Hymphrey, He accompanied Palrick Ireland 10 SI. Anthony Central Hospital.
My next action concerned assisting our Bomb Squad detectives in locating suspected devices in the
main hallway of the school and in the hallway adjacent to the library. While I was at this location I be-
came aware of the need for a medical person to verify that death had occurred to the numerous
victims within the library, as well as a white male adult in a roomjust east of the library.
Remembering the Denver Health Medical Center Physician at the ambulance assembly area, I went
there and led him to the library. He then entered and confirmed twelve deceased children. This was

On the morning of April 20th, 1999 a request for assistance was made by the Jefferson
County Sheriff's Dept. The call was that officers were taking gun fire at Columbine
High School. Within minutes additional information was aired that several people had
been shot and that the suspects had explosives and several explosion had occured4
The Denver Swat Team was on scene and had requested the assistance from the Denver Bomb
Squad with their robot. Sgt Chew and Myself responded to headquaters and picked up the
oat and the bomb truck and headed for Columbine High.
Once on scene we scaged with the JeffeD Bomb Squad and the Arapahoe Bomb Squad until
the time that the school was cleared and we were called forward to start with the bomb

inspection ~render safe and disposal of a large number of home made explosive devices~
I was on scene until after midnight on April 20th and returned on the morning of April

SUMMARY OF STATl!!IENT
On April 20, 1999, at approximately 1230 BRS., I was attending a

training seminar near Havana and Gerard Ave., when myself and Detective
Alex Woods were called to ColUmbine High School to assist the Jefferson
County Bomb Squad. It had been reported that there were suspects
shooting students inside the school and detonating bombs. We responded
to the scene and stood by with other Bomb Squad units until needed.
After SWAT op~rations were completed, all Bomb squad units responded
to the west s~de of the school and set up operations.
My duties began oJ assisting other Bomb Technicians with searching the
interior of the school for explosive devices, specifically, the
classroom areas. While inside the school, I observed several devices
that had been detonated in the halls and classrooms, which were left
in place until Crime Lab documentation could be completed. upon
completing the search of the classrooms, Detective Dave Haley requested
all !lomb Technicians outside.
Two vehicles had oeen located in the south parking lot containing live
devices. I assisted with the removal of the devices from the two
suspect vehicles. All devices were placed into the Denver Police Bomb
Trailer for transport to the demolition range.
I left the scene at approximately 0030 ImS. (April 21st) .
on April z i , 1999, at approximately 1000 H:RS., I responded to Columbine
High School to assist with transporting the explosive devices to the
Jefferson County Demolition Range. Once at the range, all devices were
removed from the trailer and render-safe procedures were completed.

On April 20, 1999 myself (Det. Woods) along with the entire Denver
Police Dept. Bomb Squad Were called out on a metro wide call for
assistance by Jefferson County Sheriff's office. at Columbine High
School on a shooting and possible bombing.
At approximately 12:30 P.M. I (Det. Woods) arrived at Columbine High
School. The Denver Bomb Squad coordinated with the Jefferson County and
Arapahoe County Bomb Squads to determine equipment and personnel needs.
I (Det. Woods) assisted all other Bomb Technicians with locating,
disarming and removing explosive devices from the crime scene. This
inCluded school grounds, the interior of the school and several
vehicles in the SChool parking lot. These functions continued until
approximately 12:30 A.M. on 04/21/99.
On April 21, 1999 I (Det. Woods) along with the Denver Bomb Squad
retu=ed to Columbine Hi!Oh School at 10:00 A.M. we continued the search
for explosive devices and gathered evidence. We then responded to
Jefferson County's bomb range where we disposed of and disarmed devices
recovered from the crime scene. This was concluded at 6:00 P.M.

those facts ahout which I have been asked.
