AmultisitenetworkcanbeverysimilartoyourownpersonalversionofWordPress.com.Endusersofyournetworkcancreatetheir ownsitesondemand,justlikeendusersofWordPress.comcancreateblogsondemand.Ifyoudonothaveanyneedtoallowend userstocreatetheirownsitesondemand,youcancreateamultisitenetworkinwhichonlyyou,theadministrator,canaddnew sites. AmultisitenetworkisacollectionofsitesthatallsharethesameWordPressinstallation.Theycanalsosharepluginsandthemes. Theindividualsitesinthenetworkarevirtualsitesinthesensethattheydonothavetheirowndirectoriesonyourserver,although theydohaveseparatedirectoriesformediauploadswithinthesharedinstallation,andtheydohaveseparatetablesinthedatabase.

Step 1: Prepare Your WordPress

YourexistingWordPresssitewillbeupdatedwhencreatinganetwork.Unlessthisisafresh installandyouhavenothingtolose,pleasebackupyourdatabaseandfiles. Alsodeactivateallactiveplugins.Youcanreactivatethemagainafterthenetworkiscreated. IfyouplantorunWordPressoutofitsowndirectory,dothatbeforeactivatingMultisite.

Step 5: Network Admin Settings

AttheleftofyourWordPresstoolbar,MySitesisnowtheseconditem.There,allyoursitesarelisted,withhandyflyoutmenus,as wellasaNetworkAdminmenuitem.UnderNetworkAdminyoucanusetheDashboarditemtogototheNetworkDashboard screen. Step 6: Administration
