Devlin Founding Brothers Irony of Adams and Jefferson In Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis the argument in chapter 6 friendship between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson was about the legacy of the revolutionary war. It went more into detail about who was better and forgiveness due but the main theme was a legacy. It starts with the sides they were on and the split of parties. Next it goes onto being about their life style. lastly it he French Revolutionary War. At the end of the revolutionary war Thomas jefferson says him and Adams were on the same side fighting the British and European powers. But as time goes on he says Adams splits and is misguided. Adams and Jefferson both worked on deceleration of independence, Continental Congress and Diplomats to France. But when hey we're done hey weren't the same. Jefferson believed in a smaller central government and Adams believed in a large central government. Later in the letters the commits come to the point of calling of Adams as a aristocrat. Adams brings to the point that him the son of a New England shoemaker was aristocrat compared to the southern slave owners. It came to this because the views were different Thomas Jefferson believed in five quality are " beauty wealth birth genius and virtues" but any of the last two can be overpowered by the first three. While Adams believed qualities were the ability to own and need for Property aristocrats.

One of the last things was Jefferson's way of saying sorry was the bring up the statement of the French revolutionary war. Jefferson apologized by saying he used the war to help himself into political favor instead of helping the country and friend. He goes onto argue tue war was destructive for Adams. But while Adams says to Jefferson his way and thinking the french way was the new modern and england the old, He was wrong. England was and will stay be the more powerful. Lastly the bookends with the deaths of Adams and Jefferson on July fourth. And goes onto say adams was more correct in his ways but the history books more favored Jefferson. But as the book says Adams was more correct and sound. He was more intellectual than Jefferson and uad a way of writing down most things he did through books and letters to his wife Abigail. But if Adams and Jefferson never split and had an argument I don't think the United States of America would not be the same. They showed how each side uas arguments and battles but in the end have a friendship and respect for the other.
