Turquoise Dillard Midterm Evaluation/February 23, 2012 This evaluation covers the following; -shared reading lesson plans

and implementation -math game plans and implementation -calendar activities -journal sharing time and individual conferencing -teacher given tasks -overall interactions with the students and with the classroom teacher Prepared for Organized Instruction -materials are organized and ready -as the semester progresses and as you get into your mini-theme you will be using a wider variety of instructional strategies and resources Presentation of Organized Instruction -gains students attention at the beginning of each activity -work on giving clearer direction: ex. see if anyone has any questions about what you expect of them whether it is academically or behavioral, may need to break it down for children who still need step by step directions -shared reading often provides more & natural opportunities for practice and summarization than math games, try to verbally interact (ex. questioning them) more with the children during math games and future physical knowledge activities -as the semester progresses your knowledge of how young children learn should improve, pay close attention to everything during your time in the classroom (ex. during whole group, small group, & one on one, how I interact with the children and how the children interact with each other, my questioning strategies, how I conference with a child and extend their thinking and/or pull them to the next level) Assessment of Student Performance -not only do the students need feedback about their behavior but they need feedback about how they are doing academically: ex. I am so proud of you. You gave me a word that rhymes with cat. Wow how smart you are. You figured out how many more spaces where left on your game board for you to win. Good job with reading the class news that you wrote on the calendar today.

-children like us never get tired of someone singing their praises Classroom Management -as a whole time management is one of your strengths at this time -management of student behavior has improved, continue to work on the suggestions made earlier by Mrs. Lloyd and I, also try to use more positive behavior strategies (ex. I like the way that Sam is sitting, lets copy his good choices. I like it when everyone counts with me. What a great calendar day we are having), please also remember to compliment and/or praise their academic good choices they make as a class, small group and individually (ex. Wow you all remembered that coin is a dime and is 10 cents. I like the way that you and Sam figured out who would roll the dice first., Sue you did an amazing job in your journal today. I like the way that you remembered how to spell the word went.) -please give the children a warning first and make sure they understand what the warning if for, if they continue to make the same bad choice then a time out should be issued, limit the time they sit in time out and have a short discussion before you allow them to get out of time out, reassure them that you care about them and know that they can make good choices Positive Learning Environment -saw more academic interactions with the children during shared reading than during the implementation of math games, math games are an amazing time to question the students and get to know where they are academically, socially, etc. and to pull them further in these areas -feel that behavioral expectations are being expressed more now than at the beginning of the semester , need to verbally do the same with your academic expectations (ex. When you play that math game today you may want to think about. Today during calendar I would like for you as a class to figure out what the class news says without my help. In your journal picture Fred I am going to expect to see . -always remember to use positive behavioral and academic strategies, most students respond very well to this type of management, sad to say that there are times when a sterner type of management may be necessary for some students Communication -no concerns in this area at this time Performance of Professional Responsibilities -as a whole completeness of university and given classroom assignments have been in a timely manner -have begun to respect the classroom more and the time that I spend with the students as a whole group, small groups, and one-on-one, please continue to communicate concerns, questions, ideas (whether they are about course work, the children, or a given task) during appropriate times and ways

-please continue to take initiative in the classroom whether it be during whole class times, small group times, one-on-one times, and anything that needs to be done that would assist me or my children
