External surfaces of carbon steel plates shall be abrasive blast cleaned in accordance with Sa 2.5 and primed with an inorganic zinc preconstruction primer. Shop primer shall comply with either APCS-17A or APCS-17B. Preconstruction primer shall not be applied to surfaces which require an internal lining. All structural steel including platform steel, handrails, ladders, cages, grating, and fasteners shall be hot-dip galvanized per YERP-12-SAMSS-007. Walking surfaces (except grating) that could be exposed to a slippery fluid, such as water or oil, shall have a non-skid coating applied per APCS-12. Flange bolting shall be coated with fluoropolymer/ceramic coating in accordance with YERP-09-SAMSS-107.

(F) Notes Field (Site): F1 All field painting shall be in accordance with referenced project coating specifications. After erection of tank, all external surfaces shall be abrasive blast cleaned and coated as follows: a. Surfaces without a shop applied primer and all field welds, shall be abrasive blast cleaned per Sa 2.5. b. Surfaces with a shop applied primer showing signs of rust shall be abrasive blast cleaned in accordance with Sa 2.5. c. The remaining surfaces with a shop primer shall be thoroughly sweep blast cleaned in accordance with Sa 1. d. Apply primer, intermediate and finish coats of coating system APCS-1C over shop applied preconstruction primer. Damaged coal tar epoxy on underside of tank bottom plates due to welding does not require repair. Repairs to hot dip galvanizing shall be in accordance with YERP-12-SAMSS-007. Detailed Engineering contractor shall obtain from the lining manufacturer his confirmation that the selected lining material is suitable for this service and maximum operating temperature.
