China Sideboard

Combining the best features of a sideboard and a china cabinet, this handsome china sideboard project is perfect for smaller spaces and casual living. Theres plenty of room for serving on top, and dishes, serving pieces, silver and linens are safely stored and displayed behind tempered glass doors in the cabinet below. The project measures 60 inches long by 30 inches tall by by 15 inches deep.

Read all instructions before beginning any work. Cut all material to sizes shown in cutting schedule.

1. Attach shelf trim (F) to leading edges of shelves (E) using glue and 1 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial. 2. Miter top trim boards (L) and (M) and attach to top (K) using glue and 1 finish nails. Refer to Pictorial. 3. Trace Pattern 1 onto sides (D), cut out curve and sand. Refer to Pattern 1 and Pictorial. 4. Trace Pattern 2 onto face frame base (I), cut out curve and sand. Refer to Pattern 2 and Pictorial.

5. Drill 3/16 diameter holes for shelf supports through center divider (B). Refer to Figure 1.

6. Drill 3/16 diameter by 3/8 deep holes for shelf supports in sides (D). Refer to Figure 2.

7. Attach center divider (B) to bottom (A) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Refer to Figure 3 and Pictorial. 8. Attach back (C) to subassembly (A, B) using glue and 1 1/2 finish nails. Refer to Figure 3 and Pictorial. 9. Attach sides (D) to boards (A) and (C) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Figure 3 and Pictorial. 10. Attach top subassembly (K, L, M) to boards (C) and (D) using glue and 1 1/4 nails. Refer to Figure 3 and Pictorial. Note: Rear edge of board (K) is flush with back (C).

H 10. Assemble face frame (G, H, I, J) using glue and 3/8 dowels. Refer to Figure 4 and Pictorial.

11. Attach face frame (G, H, I, J) to boards (A), (B) and (D) using glue and 1 1/4 nails. Refer to Pictorial. G 12. Assemble doors (N, O) using glue and 3/8 dowels. Refer to Figure 4 and Pictorial. 13. Cut a 3/8 wide by 1/8 deep rabbet around inside edges of doors (N, O). Refer to Figure 4 and Pictorial. 14. Install hinges and glass retainer clips on doors (N, O). Refer to Figure 4.

15. Attach latch mounting boards (P) to upper face frame board (H) using glue. Refer to Figure 5 and Pictorial. 16. Attach magnetic latches to mounting boards (P). Refer to Figure 5.

17. Install knobs on door stiles (N). Refer to Figure 6.
