Scholastic Achievements:
Awarded full sponsorship to pursue a research based summer internship under the guidance of Dr Jo Daniel at University of New Hampshire, USA during May-July 2007. I am receiving the Merit cum Means scholarship from IIT Kharagpur since my freshman year. Mathematics: 100%, Sciences: 97%, XII class: Mathematics: 99%, Sciences: 92.5%.

Excellent performance in Mathematics and Sciences in X and XII class; X class:

Academic Projects in IIT-Kharagpur:

Developing an Artificial Neural Network model to predict the internal angle of friction of soils. The project uses Soft Computing technique called Neural Networks which are based on pattern recognition. The project replaces the need for field and laboratory based soil examination procedures which consume a lot of time and money. Hence, the model saves time and money during soil investigation for any construction. Developing a model to evaluate the properties of a highway construction using Optimization Algorithms and Neural Networks. The project uses Evolutionary computing techniques like Genetic algorithms and neural networks to obtain the properties of a highway which otherwise can be obtained only by experimental procedures. The model is useful while conducting investigations on the highway without disturbing the traffic flow. I am presently working on a project to Develop a hybrid neuro- Immune algorithm to predict the structural damage in a structure. This project aims at predicting structural damages in complex engineering structures without actually conducting investigations on each and every unit in the structure. The project work is expected to be published in the Soft computing international journal after completion.

Summer Training
University of New Hampshire, Durham, USA: Period: 5th May 2007 to 17th July 2007. Project: o Problem: To perform a study on the volumetric properties of RAP (Recycled material) added asphalt mixtures by varying the effective RAP gradation. o Job profile and responsibilities: I worked as a Summer Research Intern in the research group of Dr Jo Daniel at the department of Civil Engineering. The responsibilities include conducting an extensive analysis on the behavior of the recycled material when added to highway construction material. I conducted laboratory analysis and then analyzed the results to understand the behavior of the recycled material. Achievements: 1. I made the following recommendations to the client after the research study : Suggested a threshold (40%) for the use of recycled material in highway construction. This saves a lot of money for the client as recycled material is cheaply available compared to the conventional highway construction material. The estimated cost of a highway project will be reduced by 25% per km upon implementation of the use of this threshold value of recycled material. The use of recycled material in highway construction is an environment friendly practice as it is effectively utilizing the waste material that is generated everyday. The threshold was suggested as a tradeoff between highway performance and cost optimization. 2. I worked in a culturally diverse team with members from different nationalities. This experience taught me about team work. I got along well with all the members of the team and this helped our research group to complete the project a week ahead of the deadline. 3. I worked well in situations which are physically and mentally demanding. I could hold my nerve when there was pressure of deadlines and this helped me learn that keeping your cool is important during crisis situations. 4. My project advisor, Dr Jo Daniel was completely satisfied with my performance during the internship. She commented that I did an excellent job during the project. 5. I received an overall grade of very good (highest) for my internship work by my advisor.

Extra Curricular Activities Positions of Responsibility Position, Organisation Certification in Financial Markets, National stock exchange of India Period Achievements/Responsibilities I have taken up a certification called Beginner in financial markets from National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India through a program called NCFM. Ensured the smooth running of various events during Khsitij, the annual techno-management festival of IIT Kharagpur at Vikramshila. Convinced the team members for a rise in the budget for the event. Our hostel won gold last year (2006). I was a subhead in that team. I have been a member of the cricket team for my hostel for the past three years. I am now the vice-captain of the side and I now share the responsibility of mentoring the junior players in the side. Worked continuously for three nights to provide accommodation facilities to all the participants during the festival. Member, Accommodation team, Khsitij 2005 2004-05 Our team could successfully accommodate the 2000 participants in spite of an overshoot in the number of anticipated participants. Came up with alternative solutions to provide accommodation when the numbers of participants have been rising beyond our expectations and this helped us gain control over the crisis situation. Key Extra-Curricular Activities and Interests: Hobbies: Traveling, Reading (fiction), Playing Cricket. Interest in working on evolutionary computing techniques like Genetic Programming, Optimization techniques, Artificial Intelligence. I was the student representative in my school and was responsible for organizing various school events like cultural festival, sports meet, etc.
