Celebrating Mass in a Retreat or Recollection

Rationale: The MASS is always considered the highest form of prayer where, not only one is able to adore, reconcile with , thank and petition a God who listens and is present not only in our minds, but a God whom we encounter personally- He in us and we in Him in communion. Indeed, a real remembrance of Gods presence with and within us. Thus a real need to make sure that every Eucharistic celebration, though simple, is well prepared, well participated, and memorable. Note: 1. Please establish what is the role/ place of the Mass in your retreat or Recollection. a. It can either be an introduction to the retreat or the sessions; b. It can also be a part of the input in the module itself; c. It can also act as a conclusion for the retreat or recollection. (Please dont threat the Mass as just one of the usual activities in a retreat for the sake of celebrating it. There should be a reason, or its proper role in your module. ) 2. 3. Prepare a thematic liturgy; one can refer to theme of the retreat. Except for Sundays, the readings and the prayers can be changed. Instead of the responsorial psalms, you may use a meditative song.

4. Make use of the songs you have used during the retreat to re-enforce the things that have been learned during the retreat. 5. Make use of recorded songs so that all will be encouraged to sing well. 6. Take extra care to have a good concluding song for the mass, especially the MRS (most requested song during your sessions ) to leave a lasting mark to the retreatants, or the lastsong-syndrome. 7. Parts of the mass where songs will be necessary: entrance, Meditation song, post-communion song ( a song of thanksgiving or commitment ), final song. - Let the offertory and communion be in silence with appropriate background music even during the consecration. 8. Principle: Less duties/responsibilities given to the participants that will distract them from the mass, the better. Instead, let everyone participate in all the activities in the mass that will be common for all. No special roles. If ever, let the teachers do that part ( ex. No need to get musicians, sacristans, etc. ). 9. It would be good if communion will be given in both species (through the mouth for less accidents and confusion). 10. After the final prayer (if you are the celebrant) is the time to conclude the retreat with the final word, souvenir giving, etc. 11. Final instructions can be given for the procedures for departure, evaluation, schedule, or for promotions, or selling of souvenirs, etc.. 12. Place for the mass: where there will be less distraction but maximum participation.
