OUR LOCUS STANDI: Orissa a land of about 40 million people has huge developmental needs. It is often quoted & accepted that Orissa is rich and the people are poor. Many put the mismanagement or badly handled development plans, programs as the main culprit. Besides this, the natural calamities like drought, flood, cyclone & tidal strike are cited to be the villains to the progress of the people. Lack of proper & timely initiatives from the government and the public as well act as a hindrance to progress & development of this state with bounty of natural and human resources. With a fair amount of observation of these & other facts SSC (India) as a civil society actor, decided to lend its bit to the action process towards development with simple and practicable strategies. Dependency on the Govt. scheme & welfare packages has to be minimized and communitys voluntary initiative has to be regenerated or accelerated. Cooperation & participation of Government public service machineries and of the community shall be sought in right earnest. GENESIS: A few friends & acquaintances who partook in socio-development wok in rural areas of Bolangi District decided to form a professional socio-developmental organization (to work & serve with consistency and enhanced capacity) and SSC (India) got formed in 1992-93. Continued field action brought to its fold professionals is health & medicine, education & development work, entrepreneurship & finance and also housewives, students & volunteers and with this it grew up (and is still growing with each action and each learning) VISION:

A society where equal chances and appropriate opportunities are made available to one and all. MISSION: Enabling all community members in exercising their human & civic rights and promoting the values of love, Co-operation & collective good live & let live. ACTIVITIES IN 2008-09
HEALTH : Among all component health is an important. Component positive health status implies complete physical, mental and social development. Better health service for people is a step towards the development and progress and our Govt. has been putting in Herculean effort to enhance the health status of the people of every nook and corner. But the bitter part of the fact is that inspire of all these efforts most of the projects implemented in the area so far can not be rendered into reality because of lack of information, knowledge, initiative apathy of people level and due to carelessness, negligence and disorganized efforts at institutions level. Hence realizing the poor health status of the people of the area the organization SSC-(India) executed the following activities in its operational area during the reporting period. THEMATIC TRAINING OF ASHA:

The organization SSC-(INDIA) was being entrusted by the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) Bolangir to organise the thematic training of ASHA in Turekela Block. In this connection by the support and proper guidance of the staff of the PHC of Turekela of the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) the organization arranged 4 rounds training programme for the ASHAs of Turekela on the thematic area. The training was taken place in the block headquarters as per the training schedule given by the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM). However each training is having 4 days duration and out of the 4 days 1st 2 days training on theory and the last 2 days for exposure and practical. The motto of the training is to make the ASHA capable in handling in different activities to mobilize the target group of their concerned areas for promotion of health status. AWARENESS ON HIV / AIDS : One of the deadly and vital diseases that has penetrated in to the human world at present is HIV / AIDS. No states of India are free from this disease and the irony is that till to day the only remedy that has been found out is prevention. After various study it is found that more then 85% are getting affected with HIV / AIDS only due to multipartner sexual relationship in western part of Orissa, especially in undivided KBK zone of Orissa, a number of people were migrating to different places to earn their livelihood to different states, where HIV / AIDS victims are high rate as the migrating people are habituated with multipartner sexual relationship, there is every possibilities of getting effect with HIV / AIDS. Hence to aware the target group awareness camps were organized by the organisation SSC(India) in different migrant prone area of Bolangir District. ANTI MALARIA ACTIVITIES : Due to improper sanitation, carelessness, lack of knowledge and information, people of remote belt and slum areas are suffering a lot so far effecting on malaria is concerned and thus the malaria morbidity and mortality increase day by day. So with view to aware the people of different slum area of Municipality and some remote part of Bolangir District the organisation SSC-(India) arranged numbers of awareness camps during June and July 07. In the camps the people were made aware of malaria. However the participants also warned on the deadly effect of Malaria. Further, they encouraged to take necessary tips and medicines from ICDS staff during fever and to prevent the disease they are motivated to make the house hold and village surrounding clean. ICDS supervisor and local health staff attended the awareness camp to impart their valuable suggestion and guidance. IEC Materials on the topic were also supplied to the participants. How ever a rally was also taken at Mahalei during Aug. 07. However the following point were discussed in the camp by the expert invited to the camps. Cleaning of village and house hold surrounding. Cleaning of water bodies

 Use of Impregnated bed nets Avail health service of the PHC / CHC during fever Avail services of AWW / ASHA / HWF during fever. PROMOTION OF INSTITUTIONAL DELIVERY: The rate of I.M.R. and M.M.R. has been increased day by day which is due to traditional and unsafe practice during delivery. So with a view to orient the eligible couple regarding the need of institutional delivery an orientation camp was organized by SSC-(India) at Baidipali during Sept. 06 In the orientation camp the participants were supplied with sufficient knowledge by the experts regarding safe motherhood and child care. The participants were motivated not to take any treatment or delivery under the unskilled practitioner or quack. Some tips on birth control and birth spacing were also provided to the participants. As much as 52 Number of participants of near by villages attended the camp. HEALTH CHECKUP CAMP: The organization SSC-(India) organised a health check up camp at Kudasingha. G.P. Hqrs. during Nov 07. In the camp the people those were carrying different disease were provided treatment and medicine with free of cost after proper diagnosis by the medical officer of the local Hospital. Out of the 104 patients identified having different diseases 8 Numbers were in serious conditions were referred to the District Hqrs Hospitall for treatment after giving preliminary doses. Some tips on preventive and curative measures of some common diseases were also provided to the participants for their better health and hygiene. TOTAL SANITAATION CAMPAIGN: The organization has under taken programme for installation of I.H.H.L. and School latrine in almost all the villages of 3 G.P. of Bolangir Block. During the reporting session with tireless efforts of the members the organization did able to install a number of I.H.H.L. The idea behind the programme is to discourage them to use the roadside for getting them-selves ease. Because this practice not only create environmental population but also make the people suffer from many diseases. Further the people of different villages of the aforesaid G.Ps were aware about some air borne and water borne diseases and were provided knowledge on preventive and curative measures of the same. EDUCATION : One of the epoch-making definitions of education says Education is the modification of human behaviour. Further for the progress of the country as well as for the progress human mass education is the basic need for every individual, as it is the manifestation of all round development. Hence, the Govt. has initiated steps for enhancement of the educational and literacy status of the people and is putting Herculean effort for the same. But due to some factors the same has not yet been achieved to a mark

level. There are still some areas with a number of non-literate people along with number of dropout and non-starters. Hence, on the wake of such a situation the SSC-(India) has taken the following steps during the reporting session for the enhancement of Literacy Standard of the people. COMPUTER TRAINING FOR SC,ST STUDENT: We are in Computer age. Computer is absolutely necessary asset as it minimizes and solves any type critical work. The organization has taken initiatives during the reporting period to make the youth and students of Balangir town aware regarding Computer Literacy which is the basic needs of every educated persons of 21st Century. However, a short duration training programme was organized where 30 numbers of youth were trained on basic operation and basic idea of Computer. In this connection the organization SSC-(India) supplied I.E.C. materials to the students and youth on Computer Education. To provide knowledge on Computer, experts were invited from local computer point. LITERACY PROMOTATION: The organization for the last 3 years arranged literacy classes in the slum area of Bolangir Municipality so as to promote the literacy status of the poor slum people especial women. In this connection during the reporting session the SSC-(India) established 2 numbers of Literacy centre near Ananda Nagar for the non-literate and partly literacy women. In both the centre more then 50 nos. of beneficiaries enrolled and they are being provided basic education along with some education for their life enrichment. The literacy classes were organized weakly thrice as per the convenient of the beneficiaries. However to carry out different activities in the centre 2 nos. of instructors were engaged by the organization. Besides this some experienced and experts of different field were also invited to the centre at times to import their valuable education and training on different topics relating to life enrichment. Further some competition like Alpena, song, writhing skill, quiz etc were organized many the learners from time to time. COMPETITION AMONG STUDENTS: Like previous year during the reporting period the organization conducted various competition such as essay, debate, song, dance, fancy dress etc, among the students of primary, U.P. and high schools of Samara G.P.. The competitions were organized to encourage the students not only for increase their general knowledge but also to make them able to know about some important current events. In all the competitions the winners were awarded with certificates and prizes. FORMATION AND FEDERAATION: During the reporting session the organization SSC-(India) arranged a big meeting by inviting more then 300 numbers of members of SHG of the area. The motto of the meeting is to promote and

construct federation among the groups so that they will address their issues and challenges. How ever during the meeting the following points were emphasized. CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING: The organisation SSC-(India) initiated step towards development of vacation skills of unemployed youth girls and in this context it has organized a number of training for the SHG members of the area for a period of 2 days for each training during the reporting session. The organisation SSC-(India) arranged the training camp for the SHG members On the following Vocations Making of badi and papad. Management of MDM Management of PDS. Pisciculturing. Vegetable Farming Making of Spices

To train the group experts on the field were invited to the training camp. LEADERSHIP AND FEDERATION TRAINING: The members of different SHG functioning at the initiatives of the organisation SSC-(India) organized a training camp for the SHG leaders in the office premises of the organisation, where the following discussion were made for the development of the groups. However to perform all the activities in a targeted manner the staff members of the organisation used to help the members of the SHG. FOREST & ENVIRONMENT : For the survival of all the living being environment has got an important place. But it is a matter of regret that inspite of major area of concern of the Govt. to keep the environment in a proper condition, due to factors like unconsciousness and unawareness at peoples level population explosion poor infrastructure facilities and many more the environmental situation has been degraded to a greater extent and reached to an alarming condition. Such a situation is causing a number of problems in the ecology sector which in turns put an adverse effect on human health hygiene and economy sector as well. So with a view to make a study and make the people of its operational area aware regarding the above situation and to get rid of the situation the organisation SSC-(India) coming with some following efforts during the reporting session. we do many study work in this sector . NURSER AND SEEDLING: The organization SSC-(India) .has raised a nursery near Mahalei and procured more then 2000 number of verities of species locally available, Nitrogen foxy multi purpose free species and horticulture. Looking to the poor productivity of land and nature of risk involved in agriculture the nursery ahs been raised. Further for employment potential, demand of the outputs overall economic gains, the farmers, SHG members of the operational village of the organization had been supplied with this species at low cost for promotion of agro forestry and farm forestry. SHG members and farmers were supplied with plants like papaya and drumstick and other vegetable variety for promotion back yard plantation. PLANTATION: Like previous year the organisation SSC-(India) had undertaken programme for plantation of trees in different wasteland and private land of the operational area of the organisation. The SHG members and farmers of the area were motivated for adoption of vegetable farming where as the house wives were encouraged to take up kitchen garden at large scale. How ever the organization has also planned for raising of a nursery having various medicinal plants. AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES: In rural India more then 80% families depend on agricultural activities for their sustainable livelihood. But due to paucity of water, unever rain, massive use of chemical fertilizer. Use of pesticide and recurring draught the yealding of crops have been dicresed substaintially which is turns put an adverse effect on the economic sector of the poor people. Hence at this present juncture steps should be taken to over come the problems. However during the reporting session the organization Netaji Yuba Samukhya initiated steps to take some following activities in its operational area

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES To promote art and culture relating to local and tribal culture among the students and youth of the operational area of the SSC-(India) the organisation had organized a no of competition during the reporting period. However last year the folk artists were invited in different occasion to exhibit their talent. Many a time the poor folk artist were encouraged and provided scope to attend different Block level functions like. TRIBLE FOLK CULTURE: In the present society, it has been seen that the tribal culture,traditional culture activities has been collapsed due to spread of modern culture. The tribal gurus have been neglected and artists have not been supported to perform their art and culture in rituals important tribal festivals. In order to enrich the tribal culture we had organized Traditional Culture Festival of rural tribal community at Daspur in which 9nos of groups were got opportunities to perform their cultural programmes. In that programme eminent tribal gurus and selected artists were prized by the local sarpanch. The Sarpanch have encouraged to tribal youths for the preservation and development of their own traditional art and culture and respect to old tribal gurus and artists for preparation of support documentation and continuation of Akhada or tribal cultural centre. PROMOTION OF HANDICRAFT: IMPROVED PADDY CRAFT & TERAKOTA In our operational area Saintala Block of Bolangir District we promote handicraft activities to skilled artesian. We also organized skill development and Design Develop training marketing. FISHERMEN EMPOWMENT In the operational area of the organization there are a lot of fishermen who are completely depend on fishing and much have doesnt know the modern technique of fishing and dont having marketing technique, they have been suffering a lot in their earning which directly hamper their livelihood. Further they do not able to save for the future of their family also. Hence relating the fact the organization provide training to the fishermen to enhance their knowledge on marketing and modern fishing technique along with promote SHG and Co-operative club among the group and strengthen the member for their sustainable lively hood. SC,ST,DEVELOPMENT Most of the people of SC,ST category are weaker section of the society. Inspite of implementation of a number of programmes by the Govt. as well as Non Govt. and PR Institution the development of ST,SC especially of remote habitation and slum areas are yet to be developed to a mark level and the main cause for the situation is due to lack of information at community level and ignorance at Govt. level. So and facilitate them to

to educate, orient and aware the alient people the organization during the reporting session carried out the following programmes i.e. Orient the group on the beneficial and well fare programme of Govt. Educate on PCR Act. Promotion SHG among the group Networking of Govt,Non.Govt,& PR Institution . FOOD PROCSSING With out having any knowledge on preservation of food people suffers a lot in health, hygiene as well as in economic sector. So to make people aware on different technique on food conservation and preservation the organisataion arranged some orientation camps in its operational area during the reporting session. DISASTER MANAGEMENT The operational area of the organization is completely under the deadly clutch of drought. The area is also under the flood zone. So people of this part of the world area suffering a lot due to drought and flood. Hence understanding the issues the organization arranged some awareness activities to make people capable to fight against such disaster. Besides this the members and staff of the organization also taking initiatives for distributor of relief during such disaster in the areas. GAMES & SPORTS: To keep the body, mind and soul in proper condition and to build a good physique playing different sports and games is the right medium. Besides the above organization of different tournaments, sports and games also increase the unity, integrity, fraternity and brotherhood among the players and people. How ever to promote different sports among the students, youth and sports personnel and for local talent search the organization SSC-(India) like previous year organized an Athletic Meet for promotion of local sports and other sports activities an athletic meet was conducted during Jan.08 at Kalamandal padia of Bolangir Town where the students and youth of the area were participated. In the meet sports event like Rope pulling, Kabadi etc along with run, long jump, discus throw, shot put throw and high jump were taken place. The winning Athletes were awarded with prizes and certificates by the organization. LIBRARY & INFORMATION: We all are aware that education is a never ending process. Library is the best place were people avail the opportunity to study in the library centre and increase their knowledge and skill on different aspect and happening around the world.The organization SSC-(India)has a Library Unit which has been

functioning in the office premises of the organization for the last 5 years. by the support of RRRLF,Kolkata.in the Library Unit has more than 5000 books on different topics such as biography, auto-biography, stories, novel, detective, welfare and developmental books. The Students, Youth, Educated persons, General Public are the reader of the library unit. In very month news paper and journals as per the choice of the beneficiaries were subscribed. Besides provision of books, news paper and journals the organization also initiated steps to disseminated some developmental and welfare activities for the village people. FARMER CO-OPERATIVE CLUB: During the reporting session the organization Netaji Yuba Samukshya promote Krushaka Club in the area and in this connection it has formed 4 number of Krushaka Club in Mahalei G.P. The members of the Club were educated on the beneficial aspects of the krushaka club such as new and modern technique of cultivation, the cropping system, Agricultural loan, repayment of loan on easy installment availing of Kishan Card etc. AWARENESS ON WASTE MANAGEMENT: During oct. 05 at Gandharel the people of Gandharel and Batharla were aware regarding the worst effect of deposit of solid waste and they were motivated and provided knowledge to manage the waste to minimize the environmental pollution. Further the members of the organisation made clean to the sorounding of the village with the help of the local volunteers and people. LEGAL BASED PROGRAMME : Due to lack of knowledge of the people, specially of remote habitation, the Right & Acts have been violated to greater extent. Without having any knowledge on the procedure of human Rights and Acts the people suffer a lot not only on social front, But also on the economical sector. Hence, on the wake of such situation of rural belt under the operational area of SSC-(INDIA) by the extensive support of the youth, volunteers and eminent advocates and resource persons of the area the organization executed the following Legal based programmes in its operational area during the reporting session. AWARENESS ON RTI: The people of the remote habitation of the area are completely unaware of the Act. relating to right to information. So to educate them on different aspect of RTI and how to avail the same and regarding the procedure of RTI the organisation SSC-(INDIA) arranged on orientation camp for the youth of some parts of Bolangir Block. The district and state level trainers on RTI were invited to the camp to impart their training on the topic. This activity was taken during Jan 08 at Sibtala and 48 number of the youth of different Youth Club had attended the camp CONSUMER AWARENESS:

The House wives and the labour class women suffer a lot during purchasing of consumer goods as they are exploited by the local retailers and traders. So to drag them out from this situation the organization SSC-(INDIA) hold an awareness camp at Ranidarha of Mundomahul G.P. to make aware the women of above categories, on consumer rights and consumer protection act. Advocates were attended the camp as RP to provide knowledge to the participants on the topic. IEC materials supplied to the participants. AWARENESS ON MIGRATION ACT: Inspite of a number of efforts the migration has not been checked or minimized. With out having any source of income in the village the poor people are migrating to different exotic place are migrating to different exhotic places to earn their livelihood but the bitter part of the fact is that the migrants are many time exploited and harassed like any thing at the worksite by the dalal / Sardar. With out having any knowledge on migration Act, wage Act etc they are not being able to avail their rights. Hence the organization SSC-(INDIA)arranged a number of awareness meeting in the migrant prone villages of Deogaon and Bolangir to educate and acknowledge and people regarding the acts and rights to migration. To impart training on the topic the organisation invited the field officer NCLP of Bolangir and some adovocates. This activities were taken during August and September 07 i.e just before the migration period.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP & PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT : It has right been said that the young generation can built a strong nation. Youth are the present assets of the country. They are the major human resources of the country. But it is found that the youth of to days are completely under the clutch of harassment, dissatisfaction, notorious, practices, because they have no supplementary source of income and they are not trained to develop their leadership quality and capability building. So with a view to built the leadership quality and capacity of the youth the organisation SSC-(INDIA)executed the following activities in its Gandhi stadium in the support of NYK, Govt.of India . For rural talent search among the youth and for promotion of sports among them, some sports activities like Foot ball tournament, Volley ball tournament. Indoor games, Cricket matches were organized from time to time in different venues of its operational area. For promotion of youth activities by developing the leadership quality of the youth training camp was organized at Gandhi stadium by inviting 60 nos. of volunteers from different youth club and voluntary organization of the area. Resource persons from different sectors were invited to the camp to impart their valuable guidance and training. The participants were also motivated to take up different welfare activities in the area for the betterment of the people.

Rural Development : India resides in rural as more then 80% of people of India are from rural habitations. So to develop the country it is absolutely necessary to develop the rural areas. Hence the organisation has undertaken the following activities in its operational area during the reporting period. Promoted various new technology and method among the farmers for agricultural extension. Provided knowledge and information to the rural mass on various welfare and developmental programme of the Govt. Help the destitute and distress. Promoted rural and tribal art and culture by organizing some cultural activities based on rural and tribal culture. Initiated steps to eradicate social evils in the area. Formed V.D.C in some of the villages of Puintala,bolangir(S), Turekela Block of Bolangir District.

ANIMAL SHELTER ACTIVITIES : Most households in the villages we work with rear domestic animals, especially cattle, ship, goats and country birds. They do care these animals in the matters of feeding & horsing, does not properly. But in case of serious illness or injury strike of epidemical disease, they try to address it in their traditional way which is a little or never effective. In such way we provide them shelter a support and treatment as modern style. And organized awareness meeting for care taking.
