Define - PMM of second kind. 4. What is difference between a heat pump and refrigerator? 5. Define dryness fraction of steam (or) What is quality of steam? 6. What is saturation temperature and saturation pressure? 7. Define Co-efficient of volume expansion and Isothermal compressibility. 8. What is compressibility factor? 9. Define bypass factor (BPF) of a coil. 10. State Dalton's law of partial pressure.

11) An ideal gas initially in a piston cylinder assembly at 1.5bar and 0.2m3. the gas is first heated at constant pressure until the volume is doubled. It is then allowed to expand isothermally until the volume is again doubled. Determine the work done by the gas during the process and plot the process on a p-v diagram. The initial temperature is 300k for the gas. (16) (0r) 12) In a Steam power station, steam flows steadily through a 0.2m diameters pipeline from the boiler to the turbine, at the boiler end, the steam conditions are found to be p=4Mpa; t = 400c; h =3213.6 kJ/kg and v =0.073m3/kg. At the turbine and, the conditions are found to be p =35Mpa; t =392c, h =3202.6 kJ/kg. And v =0.084m3. There is a heat loss of 8.5 kJ/kg from the pipe line. Calculate steam flow state.

13) Two reversible heat engines A and B are arranged in series. A rejecting heat directly to B. Engine A receives 200kJ at temperature of 421c. From a hot source while engine B is in communication, with a cold sink at temperature of 4.4 c. If the work output of A is twice that of B. Find(i) the intermediate temperature between A and B (ii) the of each engine and (iii) heat

14) Five kg of air at 2 bar and 30C is compressed to 24 bar pressure according to the law of pV1.3 = C. After the compression air is cooled at constant volume to 30C. Determine (1) Volume and temperature at end of compression. (2) Change in entropy during compression. (3) Change in entropy during constant volume cooling. Take CP = 1.005 kJ/kg K and CV = 0.718 kJ/Kg K (16) 15. a) Steam at 4 bar and 0.7 dry expands at constant volume until 5.5 bar. Find the final condition of steam and the heat absorbed by 1 kg of steam. (8) 15.b) Two kg of steam initially at 5 bar and 0.6 dry is heated at constant pressure until the temperature becomes 350C. Find the change in entropy and internal energy. (8)

16.a) A steam plant working on a simple rankine cycle operated between the temperature of 260c and95c .the steam is dry and saturated when it enters the turbine and expanded isentropic ally. Find rankine efficiency. (8)

16.b) 2.5 kg of steam is heated at constant pressure of 250 kpa and 100c, until temperature is 250c. Find the amount of heat added and change in entropy (Use mollier chart) (8) 17) A mixture of gases contains 50% nitrogen,40% oxygen and 10% carbon di oxide by mass. 2 kg of mixture is compressed from 200 kpa and 293K to 400 kpa polytropically which follows the PV1.25=C. Determine the work done, heat transferred and change in entropy
