Being arrested does not automatically mean that the State Attorneys Office must file formal charges against you. Early intervention by an attorney can make the difference on whether or not your case is filed, dropped to a lesser offense, or dismissed. The fact that Larry Sandefer is a former division director, lead trial attorney and prosecutor ensures you the experience and credibility necessary to represent your interests effectively before the State Attorneys Office and the Court. Critical aspects in your representation are negotiations with the state and ultimately the Judge. Police reports, tapes, and evidence will be obtained and thoroughly reviewed and investigated. Where appropriate, motions to dismiss the charges or suppress evidence can be filed. If your case proceeds to jury trial Sandefer Law Firm stands prepared to defend you aggresively, thoroughly and with the trial experience you need. You may be eligible to participate in a Pre-Trial Diversion Program. This special program can postpone criminal prosecution of your case within the Criminal Court System. Upon successful completion of this program, the criminal charges may be dismissed by the Court and ultimately subject to filing for a sealing or expungement. In negotiating with a Prosecutor and the judge, you may be placed on probation and/or sentenced, yet it is possible not to be convicted. This protects your valuable civil rights and employment options. Ask if this is an option available to you. If allowed by the Court, it may be possible to settle your case without your appearance in Court or the need for a trial. This is especially beneficial to clients who reside out of state or travel frequently during their employment.

Larry has handled well over 5000 criminal cases. Of these, over two hundred have resulted in jury trials of from one day to several weeks in length. These trials have included approximately 20 first degree murder cases, multi-jurisdictional drug and homicide conspiracies, trafficking, drug sales and possessions, sexual battery, exposure charges, arson, white collar crimes including trade secrets and fraud, robbery, theft, assault, battery, domestic violence, traffic deaths, DUI, DUI manslaughter, resisting arrest, shoplifting, abuse allegations of children and the elderly, embezzlement, insurance fraud, burglary, kidnapping, and many other charges. After over 30 years in criminal law in this area, he is familiar with and has worked very often with the Judges and prosecutors assigned to the criminal courts. He is a former prosecutor of over eight years with experience as both a Lead Trial attorney and a Division Director. This gives him the knowledge of both sides of a criminal case from a decision making perspective and a trial perspective, having been involved with those decisions as a senior prosecutor and understanding what effects those decisions.
