Afro-Asian Poetry 1.

I think Afro-Asian poems have something to do with the rights and cultures of the people, especially the one who authored it. For example, Africa is a very popular country for it is rich in literature. One of the best known African poet is Leopold Sedar Senghor. Leopold was characterized as a person who believes at the equal right of people among their coloures, whether they are white or black. Traditionally, black people are commonly slaves back then. As a fight for their right, Leopold published a theory called Negritude Movement. This example shows how poetry reflects peoples identities. 2. For a start you can look at the concerns itself. Usually literature from these three geographical areas are postcolonial works, due to the fact that they were once colonized. The most important concern with be identity, as these literatures usually reflect a need to search for an identity (since after the colonizers left them they are without an identity of their own). At the same time consider how the problem with identity affects their culture and traditions. 3. Nature: Normally, when talking about literature from any individual of mixed heritage, what I have noticed is the topic of not knowing where one belongs. Also prevalent is the idea of being stuck in a limbo like state, of being intangible and unable to interact or affect one's surroundings (both literally and metaphorically). There is also the topic of pride, of being proud of one's mixed heritage, though that pride is often laced with confusion and sometimes anger. There is the thought that to be too proud of one side of oneself, is to let go and lose the otherside and that action or decision usually brings some form of guilt along with it. The anger arises from the reaction of society to one being of mixed descent, that society will not let that individual be a person if he or she doesn't choose a side. That until one chooses, that they will always be... almost sub-human, because they do not belong and are not acknowledged by either side. There is also a sense of growth in this kind of literature. Initial works seem to focus on the concept of identity, which is all of the previously mentioned above. Usually when writers of mixed-heritage have matured, acceptence becomes more prevalent in their work. They have either chosen one dominant side while letting one fall away, though maintaining their dignity about their choice, or they have acceptend their own being as a whole. Special Features: Afro-Asian poetry illustrates and embodies all the tragedies and struggles of Africanand some Asian nations under the tyrannical rule of Western conquerors. They are poems which depict the struggle and suffering experienced by Africans and some Asians unto this day. Elements: Afro-Asian Literature is a term for novels or writing such as poems written by people from mixed African-Arab ethnicity, or African-Asian ethnicity. In modern times, a a part of world literature, Afro-Asian literature is a separate segment of writing [in English] of experiences in African and Asia to further cultural understanding and world peace. Afro-Asian literature is the literature from whole Africa and Asia. these literature include stories, myths and others. 4. Generally, the three great poems, Haiku, Tanka and Hokku, states the religion and believes of the ancient people. For example, Haiku describes the beauty of the nature whereas it gives us clues that people in Japan are devoted to nature such as trees, mountains, rivers, and others. It is not only the ancient Japanese whom it refers, but also the modern Japanese who still belongs to the group of animism. Animism is a religious belief whereby it is unique for having mythologies and rituals that are particularly included to them.
