: Purpose: Special Event Assistant/Interpreter Public Programs & Services Museum Curator, Banting House National Historic Site of Canada To assist in the planning and implementation of fundraising/awareness events and conduct Museum Tours at Banting House National Historic Site of Canada. You must be enrolled full-time in the fall of 2013 to be eligible to apply. Responsibilities: assist with the planning/implementation of Banting & Friends V (fundraising event) and Our Man on the Moon (awareness event); create and maintain various database spreadsheets to assist with future events; assist with gallery enhancements for the permanent installation The Luckiest Boy in France; assist in providing an enjoyable and informative Museum experience for the visitors through the presentation of the messages of national historic significance of Banting House NHSC and Sir Frederick Banting to the public and answering questions related to the Museum and its collection; become familiar with the Commemorative Integrity Statement for Banting House NHSC, as well as the more general Cultural Resource Management Policy for national historic sites; stewarding and thanking donors, sponsors and campaign volunteers; track daily/weekly hours and record responsibilities/tasks accomplished daily; participate in meetings by taking minutes, preparing meeting notes and agendas; work in collaborative setting with Banting House NHSC staff/volunteers as well as London & District staff/volunteers; other tasks as assigned by the Museum Curator
Skill Development: project management; learn to create critical paths/projects schedules and execute against time lines handling of museum objects oral and written presentation application of research

Qualifications/Competencies Required: background in History/Museum or Museum Studies/Communications/Fundraising an asset ability to work independently and as a member of a team demonstrates initiative strong communication and organizational skills ability to handle pressure in a professional manner excellent problem-solving skills a proactive person, who can take the lead developed planning skills proficient in Word, Excel and Publisher
Training/Support: orientation to Banting House NHSC and the Canadian Diabetes Association policies and procedures for Occupational Health & Safety, Workplace Occupational Health & Safety, WHIMIS, MSD Prevention as well as Slips, Trips and Falls work closely with Museum Curator as well as the Community Engagement Department, Canadian Diabetes Association Time Commitment: full time: 12 weeks, 32.5 hours per week Tuesday Friday (8:30 am 4:30 pm) Saturday (12:00 am 4:30 pm) some flexibility as required by event schedules/demands
