Formatting and definitions

Term Request Reply BLUE Description Defines data send from the Server (or PC) to the module/meter. Data send from the module/meter to the Server (or PC). Text written with blue indicates that this data is only illustrating the presence a value, however the value is likely to change (should not bee seen as constant).

Protocol basics
Basic knowledge of the IP protocols are expected, and therefore not explained in this document.

Term IP ISP NAT AMR AMM KAP Direct connection Description Internet Protocol Internet Service Provider Network Address Translation (NAT / PAT) Automatic Meter Reading (reading values). Automatic Meter Management (Controlling i.e. a relay). Keep Alive Packages. A mechanism for penetrating NATs using UDP and to manage devices when using DHCP without a Radius server. A TCP/IP connection is referred to as direct when the socket is established by the AMR server directly to the module. This is normally the way TCP/IP sockets are established but requires that the server has direct access to the module. i.e. as it is the case in local networks, for public IPs and when 1-to1 mapping trough firewall, PAT, NAT etc. are used.

1 Introduction
Kamstrup IP Tool is a simple Windows application for doing basic configuration of Kamstrup ethernet modules.

Figure 3: Kamstrup IP Tool.

2 Setup
First time the application runs you need to setup a few settings. 1. Start the application. If you have more than one Network-interface-card in your PC, you have to choose the network your IP module is accessed by, by selecting the right interface under [Settings]:

Figure 4: Selecting the NIC to use. 2. Start the server by clicking on [Start server] from [Main]:

Figure 5: Stating the server. When exiting you will be asked whether or not to save settings - choose [Yes]. Next time you start the application just click [Start Srever].

3 Listing the modules

Modules configured to send KAPs to the pc where Kamstrup IP Tool is running will be listed automatically. All other modules need to be located or added manually.

3.1

Locating modules - Discovery

Locating modules in the local network All working modules in the local network (within broadcast range) can be discovered by clicking on [Locate Devices].

Figure 6: Locating devices. Locating modules in the local network that are configured incorrectly Modules in the local network (within broadcast range) with an invalid IP setup can still be discovered. (I.e. Wrong IP range or configured to use DHCP in a LAN without) Click [Locate devices using broadcast] and the modules will show in the list including a listing of the invalid IP.

3.2

Adding a specific module

Modules can also be added as static If the module can not be located by the discovery functionality of Kamstrup IP Tool if the actual IP and Port of the module in known. Click [Add static] and provide the IP and Port needed to reach the module.
