JULY - REMINDER

We would like to invite the Life Education Bus to come to our school in July. It is a mobile classroom which will be deposited on our school site for 4 days. Each child in every class will be invited to spend time with the Life Bus Teacher. It will help our children learn all manner of important issues of how to look after our bodies and the positive impact that exercise has on our bodies. It also involves making children aware of issues including looking at the risks of alcohol, smoking, drugs (all appropriate to the childrens ages!). This is a very much enjoyed resource enjoyed by children across Lancashire and helps improve all our childrens awareness of keeping their bodies safe and healthy. It will be subsidised by the school but I would like to ask for your support in offering a 2 contribution towards the cost of this visit per family. It is worth every penny and children usually look forward to the next visit once it has gone! st Please could payments be made in a labelled envelope to the school office by Friday 21 June. EXTREME READING NATIONAL BOOK WEEK We are most grateful for entries received and are judging them presently. Results will be announced very soon! There have been some really good ones with some of our children really getting into the spirit of this event. FRUIT DISTRIBUTION In school we have a delivery of fruit for our children in nursery to year 2. We are currently looking for a parent to distribute this in the mornings after you have dropped off your child/ren. This will take approximately 10-15 minutes. If you are interested in helping school with this please ring the office or come in and let us know. PGL BOREATTON PARK YEAR 6 JUNE SUMMER 2014 I am hoping to take next years Year 6 to Boreatton Park, Baschurch in Shropshire for their outward bound residential visit next year. It is an utterly fantastic educational experience where children face exciting outdoor challenges and work closely alongside each other in achieving them. The activities provided include the zip wire, quad biking, kayaking, raft building, archery, ropes courses, climbing activities su ch as the trapeze and Jacobs Ladder (if this means nothing to you, you may wish to Google these!) are typical of the events your children would experience. I would like th to offer a presentation/talk for all current Year 5 parents which will be at 6pm on 13 June after half term in Class 5. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about their educational visit for next year. Please th complete the slip attached to this newsletter if you intend to come on the 13 June after half term. ATTENDANCE NOTICE Following a report written in April 2012 by Charlie Taylor, Expert Behaviour Adviser for the DfE, the Government has amended key legislation relating to attendance from September 2013. This decision has been made to encourage schools to take a firmer stance on unnecessary absence and to dispel the myth held by many parents that there is an st entitlement to time off school for holidays in term time. As of September 1 2013 Headteachers cannot authorise any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. There will clearly be implications for schools as a result of these changes and so the Governing Body have taken the decision to make the following changes to school policy following its review: Adopting the Lancashire Leave of Absence Form with immediate effect Fixed penalty fines from September 2013 We hope all parents will support the school in their efforts to reduce unnecessary absence and therefore minimising the impact on your childs education. Please contact us if you wish to discuss this further. The reviewed policy will be made available on the schools website.
