Welcome
May 26 2013
Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much as we can, we want to help you feel at home here. In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for you to complete. There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make. All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute
Rob Waldron writes..... A couple of weeks ago I attended a work lunch and presentation at which workers, managers and the CEO were present. The Chairman of the Board was due to arrive later in the afternoon. It was interesting to observe the interaction between people. Some were keen to be noticed and positioned themselves within earshot of the CEO and tried to get the opportunity to engage her in conversation. Others simply kept to themselves. Some middle managers dressed more formally than usual and no doubt were trying to make an impression. Some senior managers really looked the part with dark, pinstriped suits and the company logo pinned to their lapel. Within the group were tradespeople, clerical staff and professionals. The cleaner was notable by his absence. He had simply been asked in the morning to make sure the place was thoroughly cleaned before this important visit. During the speeches after lunch, a technician, wearing his normal work-wear blue shorts, steel capped boots and open neck company polo shirt, was given a small retirement gift for 46 years service. Very little was said, simply a shake of the hand and that was it. I spoke to him afterwards. He tried to tell me in 5 minutes what his experiences had been over 46 years. The things he had learned, the places he had been, some of the tough jobs he had managed to complete and the legacy he was leaving with those he had trained. Senior management didn't seem to care all that much. A small gift, a shake of the hand and one man's life moves on and is soon forgotten. The most influential person that this world has ever known; the one who has had more impact and more effect on history than all the kings and queens combined was a penniless, homeless tradesman. No formal qualifications, no title to his name, no prestigious address to call home. His name, Jesus of Nazareth, the carpenter's son. All he offered to this world was a heart of love. However, such was the effect of that love that he was able to offer forgiveness of sins for all mankind by dying on the cross. Only sinners can be forgiven. Titles, position, wealth and status have no bearing, in fact they are often a hindrance. Only sinners, humbling themselves, responding in faith and repenting, can know forgiveness. Perhaps that is why Jesus once said "The last shall be first and the first shall be last".
MLT Meeting
The Ministry Leadership Team is planning to meet on Monday for a meeting once again. We would, as always, greatly appreciate your prayer for our wisdom and the Lords guidance as we seek to make decisions for the church family at UPBC. Many thanks for your faithfulness.
Practical Ministries
Thank you to those who completed the Practical Ministries form last Sunday morning in the service. People indicated what practical ministry they could support in 2013 supply meals, house cleaning, gardening, transport and the like. Those who were not at church last week are asked to find the Practical Ministries form in this Link and complete it with your offer of support and either put it in the offering bag or in the Care Card box on the table by the baptistry. Thank you in anticipation of your support. Allan Stanley-Smith Pastor Pastoral Care.
In Sympathy
The church family extend their love and sympathy to the Hillan family, particularly Anne, on the recent death of her much loved father.
