I Can!
Design for Change is the largest global movement designed by Kiran Bir Sethi to give children an opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action. Children and adults learn through Design for Change that I Can are the two most powerful words in the world. For the past several years, Sethi has been using design thinking to develop solutions to some of
the most urgent social problems in India. In 2011, the idea of I Can change the world was implemented in over 30 countries, inspiring over 300 000 children.
Design for Change developed a simple design process that enabled children to become drivers of change. The process is: to FEEL (any issue that bothered them), IMAGINE (a way to make it better), DO ( I Can, implement the act of change) and SHARE (make it visible). Children designed solutions and implemented acts of change for over 20 various problems across the world like: social evils, environment, education, alcohol, child labour, floods, traffic, discrimination, etc. Not only did DFC impact the children but also the lives of the teachers and the community. The children changed the perception in the minds of the adults from being helpless to becoming drivers of change through the I can thinking.
