Brief: Collaboration (Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design Yearbook)

Brief
Design the BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design 2013 Yearbook, alongside Graphic Designers Kirsty Alderson; Kirsty Hardingham and Sophie Wilson. This is a collaborative brief, live brief, working on publishing & editorial skills. Roles Original grid design & PDF interactivity - Sophie Wilson Type setting and organising content - Claudia Griffin Colour scheme & cover design - Kirsty Hardingham Arranging image content & quote layout - Kirsty Alderson Photography - Jessie Leong (LCA Photography student)

Background
The yearbook is an annual publication designed to showcase the graduating 3rd year. The book is distributed to Industry Contacts, potential applicants and visitors to the end of year show. The yearbook is also a marketing tool to raise the prole of the course with feeder colleges and the creative industries. In the light of this the Yearbook is a high concept, highly visual and professional publication that needs to communicate the practical and conceptual standards of the Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern degree programme. Considerations What do they want to say about the course, their time on it and the people they have met? (And staff) What makes this course/year unique and how do you communicate this through the selection, organisation and communication of content? What is the underlying visual concept and why is it appropriate, innovative and current? The message is what? Who will want to know and how will they nd out? What additional formats could you use (both print & digital). What other deliverables can you propose?

Mandatory Requirements
The Course, Institutions Name and year of graduation must be clearly presented on the cover of the publication Each 3rd year is allocated an equal amount of space containing samples of work. The yearbook should be produced to a standard square format of 210mm x 210mm. Additional mandatory content will be discussed. The yearbook must be designed for digital format, as a PDF. The yearbook must communicate the diverse, creative and professional quality of the work produced.

Deliverables

- PDF only yearbook, as discussed with Duncan from Printed Textiles - Photo shoot of all students work - Pushing the brief further ideas, such as postcard, name plaques, website, packaging
