Exam Specification
You will have 1 exam papers this year: Paper 1 is worth 25 marks (50% of the overall mark) and will consist the following topics: of

A world divided: International relations between the wars, 1919-39 (25 marks).

Paper 2 is worth 25 marks (50% of the overal) and will consist of the following topics: A2: The origins and course of the First World War, 1905-18 (25 marks).

The paper will last 1hr 30mins.

Assessment Objectives
We will be looking for three things: 1. Your ability to recall, select and communicate your knowledge of history. 2. For you to demonstrate your understanding of the past through explanation and analysis of, and judgements about, key features and the concepts in history such as

causation, consequence and change.

3. Your ability to use a range of source material to: i) ii) Comprehend, interpret and cross-refer sources. Evaluate historical claims.

4. Your exams papers are designed to do 2 things: i) ii) 1|Page Test how much you know. Test how you apply what you know to historical questions.

PAPER 1 What kinds of questions will be in the summer exam paper?

Topic B6 - A world divided: International relations between the wars, 1919-39 (25 marks). This section is worth 25 marks. The questions will be broken down in the following way: a. Chronological sequencing question (3 marks). b. An explanation of consequence (4 marks). c. An explanation of causation (8 marks). d. Using source and own knowledge to give an explanation (10 marks).

For the summer exam you should aim to revise the following:

a. Timeline of key events 1919-1939. b. The Versailles Settlement
- The aims of the Big Three. - Key terms of the treaties of Versailles, St Germain, Sevres, Trianon and Neuilly. - Reactions to the peace treaties.

- Woodrow Wilson and the setting up of the League. - The Covenant of the League of Nations. - The powers of the League. - The weaknesses of the structure and organisation of the League of Nations.

Paper 2 Section A Historical Investigation
Topic A2 - The Origins and course of the First World War (25 marks). This question is worth 25 marks and focuses on the understanding and treatment of source and stimulus material. This question will be broken down in the following way: a. b. c. Source Inference question (3 marks). Source cross-referencing question (7 marks). Using sources and own knowledge to evaluate a representation (15 marks).

For the summer exam you should aim to revise the following: Topic A2 - The origins and course of the First World War, 1905-18
The Schlieffen Plan and deadlock on the Western Front
- The Schlieffen Plan and why it failed. - The trench system, life in the trenches, new weapons and methods. Reasons for deadlock. - Key features of Somme and Passchendaele. Successes and failures. Responsibility of Haig.

The War at Sea and Gallipoli

- German threat to Britain in North Sea. German raids, Heligoland Bight, Dogger Bank and Jutland. - The U-Boat threat, the Lusitania and anti U boat measures.
