Course description
Our Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) course is for those pursuing a career in the electrotechnology industry. You will learn about electrical safety and basic skills and knowledge for work in any electrotechnology discipline.

What are the entry requirements? (including Recognition of Prior Learning)


There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, the Electrotechnology Training Package recommends typical language, literacy and numeracy skill levels needed to successfully complete each Competency Standard Unit undertaken within this qualification. Learners should either be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments to achieve the completion requirements of this course. Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. TAFE NSW recognition does not apply to these.

Under 17 and wanting to leave school?


If you are under 17 and want to leave school, your options have been affected by a recent change in NSW law. From January 2010 you must complete Year 10 and then continue in either full-time education, training, paid employment or a combination of these options until youre at least 17 years of age. Other TAFE NSW colleges may offer different elective options. If licensing in another State other than NSW is required, please check requirements with the relevant State.

Do I need additional resources to study this course?


You will require textbooks. They are: Electrical principles by Peter Phillips for the theory subjects - ISBN: 9780170220163 approx cost $90.00 (as of Jan 2013) Electrical Wiring Practice Vol 1 and 2 for the practical subjects. ISBN 978-007028643-6 and 978-007028641-2 approx cost $160.00 for both (as of Jan 2013)

The preferred Scientific calculators are a Casio FX82AU Plus or FX100AU/ Scientific approx costs - $20.00 - $40.00 Computer/Software Requirements You will need a computer or regular access to an IBM compatible computer or Apple Mac with up to date virus protection and: access to a broadband internet connection (preferable) or dialup internet connection to obtain resource material for several units, to access the Online Learning Support (OLS) site and to contact teachers and access the Online Classroom email access at least 128MB RAM Windows 2000 or later/Mac OSX Microsoft Office 2000 or later MS Internet Explorer 5 or later /Safari/Firefox/Google Chrome Adobe Acrobat Reader available free from the Adobe website You may use your local council library or use your TAFE ID card to access any NSW TAFE library

You must complete: assignment work which you should submit on a regular basis, and written and/or online tests, and either/both work based skills assessments or attendance at Mount Druitt TAFE College WSI for a simulated workplace skills assessmen
