the Lesson: The student will be able to accurately identify rhyming words. Description of classroom, grade level, and students: Special education in a mild-moderate classroom K-2nd It will be a classroom with approximately 15-20 students. Student Objectives for the lesson. (Given a condition, the students will, to what level). Given a passage from The Cat in the Hat, students will be able to identify rhyming words on each page with 90% accuracy. Length of Lesson: (minutes, number of class periods, or days or weeks needed). The lesson will take approximately 30 minutes of one class period. Schedule of Activities: (Break down your activity into a timeline of events. Focus on what students will be doing and what teachers will be doing during each part of the activity.) 9:00am- Teacher will open the lesson by reviewing the book and talking about rhyming words. 9:05am- Teacher will use a pre-made Kidspiration concept map to show students examples of rhyming words. 9:10am- Students will add rhyming words they thing of to concept map. 9:20am- Teacher will introduce Kidspiration activity to students. Students will have approximately 20 minutes to complete the activity. Assessments: How will these activities be assessed? (Go back to your objectives, what will the students do? Make sure that each objective is paired to an assessment measure that allows students to show it). The teacher will use the final activity on Kidspiration to assess students on the concept of rhyming. Accommodations: How might the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs? Student can use the book to help find rhyming words. Student can have a copy of the concept map to refer to when doing second activity. Teacher will assign lesson problems to student. Student may ask teacher for help at anytime. App to be used for lesson (if applicable): An app we could use to introduce this lesson is called Fun Rhyming. In this app students match words that rhyme. Materials Needed: Go through each activity and identify what items (both technology and not) are needed to complete this lesson. Include a breakdown according to individual student or student groups. Include materials that need to be created as well. Smart Board, Computer, Printer, Software (Kidspiration/Inspiration), The Cat in the Hat book, iPad app
