How to activate a new client or re-activate an existing client

Goal Client needs to be activated

Resolution The first two scenarios are for activating new clients where the name has never been activated. The second two scenarios involve re-activating a client.

* New Client (name has never been registered/activated)

1. Activate from the client itself a. For windows clients, right click on the avscc and choose "Activate". b. Fill in the appropriate information. If your client can't resolve the hostname of the Avamar server, then you can use the IP address.

2. Activate from the admin console. Client MUST be pageable. a. Make sure the client can resolve the fully qualified hostname and short name of the Avamar server either via DNS or by adding the IP address to the client's host file. b. Add the new client via Administration->Account Management. Right click the appropriate domain and choose Add Client. c. Update the client page address and port. d. Activate the client. Administration->Account Management. Right click the client and choose Activate.

Remove the avagent.cfg and cid.bin files from the client and restart the agent. c. Un-activate the client you are trying to re-activate. d. Add the new client via Administration->Account Management. Right click the appropriate domain and choose Add Client. e. Update the client page address and port. f. Activate the client. Administration->Account Management. Right click the client and choose Activate. NOTE: It may take up to 30 minutes for the client to switch to activated using this method.
