The Scottish Parliament commissioned a brief study on this topic, the results of which may go some way in explaining the disproportionate number of RCs in Scottish prisons.
The findings of Dr Wiltshire were not what the parliament wanted to hear.
Among Dr Wiltshire's conclusions were the fact that anti-RC prejudice in Scotland was "inextricably linked to Irish identity and issues around ethnicity". & "Discriminatory and prejudiced attitudes continue to feature in modern Scottish society. & It might be expected that such attitudes could manifest in the criminal justice system, accounting in part for the disproportionality."
At which the Scottish Parliament promptly ended further examination of this potentially embarrassing public petition (PE 1073)
