Boston Red Sox Hat

Notes: This is my first pattern, so I can only hope it is clear and accurate! The hat is
made first, with the “B” image stitched in later using duplicate stitch – this creates the
nice embroidery effect. Of course, the chart is fully adaptable to intarsia/stranded
knitting (and if you know how to do that in the round, kudos to you, because I don’t). It
can also be used on other projects such as sweaters, gloves, socks, etc. Happy knitting,
and GO SOX!

Instructions
Using Color 1, cast on 105 sts. and divide evenly on three DP needles.

Work in K3, P3 ribbing for 8 rounds. (Because this will start with K3 and end with K3 on

Continue in st. st. until hat measures 4 ¾” (12 cm).

Image
With tapestry needle, use duplicate stitch to stitch in the below chart. The bottom right-
hand corner of the image should be 48 stitches in from the beginning of the fourth round
above the ribbing.

For the “B” outline, thread the needle with the single strand of Color 2, folding the strand
in half and tying at the ends so that there are actually 2 strands being stitched at once.
(See photo below).

For the “B” fill-in, thread the needle with both strands of Color 3, folding the strands in
half and tying at the ends so that there are actually 4 strands being stitched at once.

I did the white outline first, then the red fill-in. Be kind to yourself: STITCH LOOSELY!
Because of the multiple strands, the image will pull together tightly. You may use fewer
strands simply by not folding them in half, and it will be easier to stitch then, but the
image won’t pop out as much.
