Ink Optimizer

Ink Saving For Screen & Digital Inkjet from

Ink Optimization from ColorGATE

Printers looking to increase efficiencies and cut costs now have a new tool. Many products have been offered to reduce ink consumption. However, all of these offerings come with some sort of cost. They often require PDF files to be processed outside of the primary workflow, and then resubmitted to the primary workflow. Others provide poor quality color conversions.

Fujifilm offers a number of different ink optimization solutions to fit your needs from a stand-alone or black box configuration to a comprehensive solution that drives all of your screen and digital inkjet devices with ColorGATE.
ColorGATEs Ink Optimizer module is seamlessly integrated within the ProductionServer workflow and transforms data downstream just before printing. Ink Optimizer can be easily applied to any project, screen or digital inkjet. Proofs of jobs can easily be made of the ink optimized job or simply showing the customers original intent without any ink optimization applied using ColorGATEs proofing module. ColorGATEs profiling engine is at the core of successful color proofing and Ink Optimizer products. The Ink Optimizer module makes use of specially designed software for screen presses as well as digital inkjet printers to provide a single source solution in order to generate an optimized print without compromising print quality. ColorGATE optimizes the files by applying a predetermined amount of GCR (Grey Component Replacement) to the data. GCR lowers the amount of C, M, Y inks and replaces with K. This is achieved by the application of a customized DLP, (Device Link Profile), applied at the output file generation stage. In order to discover which configuration would best fit your needs, we will schedule an exploratory discussion with you. Contact your Fujifilm representative today to learn more about increasing efficiencies and cutting costs using Ink Optimizer.

Which Solution Fits Your Needs?

Ink Optimizer can be used as a stand-alone solution or as part of a complete workflow for screen printing, digital inkjet, or both. Ink Optimizer works by reducing the amount of CMY ink required to produce color and replacing it with black ink. This will result in lower print costs and better handling on press.

Key Benefits:
Cost savings on ink typically 15-25% Automatic total ink limit coverage correction Faster ink drying time, resulting in faster print speeds Faster make ready Less paper waste

Ink Optimizer Stand-alone

Fujifilms stand-alone Ink Optimizer product from ColorGATE allows you to apply ink savings no matter what RIP is being used to produce your screen or digital inkjet work. Simply submit the file you wish to print to the Ink Optimizer hot folder and then submit it to the RIP for your output device. Simple to use and cost effective, Fujifilm offers a turnkey solution that includes software, computer platform and end user training. If you are interested in improving your print quality by implementing G7, Ink Optimizer will provide an additional benefit by providing better gray balance and consistent ink limits.

Ink Optimizer for Screen

Ink Optimizer for screen printing gives you the ability to drive your computer to screen or film device with files that have been optimized for ink savings. This combines what would be done using two or three workstations to a single, unified screen solution. In addition, ColorGATEs Screen Print Proof Module allows you to make a proof of the file simulating the screened halftone structure of the screen press.

Ink Optimizer for Digital Inkjet

Ink Optimizer for inkjet devices gives you the ability to drive all your inkjet devices from a common RIP and optimize the ink usage on the fly without any operator intervention. In addition, ColorGATEs Proofing Module allows you to utilize an Epson proofer to generate color accurate proofs.

The top half of the printed sheet below has Ink Optimizer applied while the lower half of the sheet are the original images. The two sheets on the left are a black only print which shows the dramatic difference in black coverage where the CMY print shows the dramatic reduction of CMY from the lower half to upper half. Reference the numbers in the print below and refer to the corresponding description for a brief explanation of what to look for in each image. A variety of images and effects were selected to show original quality can be maintained while improving the printability and reducing the amount of ink used. See back page for ink savings on each image.

6. This high key original contains various metallic objects. Detail

maintenance without loss in metallic reflections all while maintaining the fine details of the original.

7. This low key original has deep shadow details. This image was
provided with an excessive amount of total ink coverage at 350%. Optimization of this image reduced the total ink to the defined 300% and reduced overall CMY ink providing an image easier to print while maintaining the deep shadow details.

8. This flesh tone image has deep face shadows. Improper conversion of this type of image can create the appearance of a five oclock shadow in the shadow areas if the color conversions of the neutral shadows are set to begin too early or with improper conversion. Please note the accuracy between the ink optimized image and the original intent, flesh tone smoothness and details in the hair, eyebrows and other details.

1. Image is flesh tone sample showing various skin colorations

and complexions. This type of image is common to cosmetic and clothing advertising. Overlaying this image is a complex vector transparent with transparent drop shadow and makes use of smooth shading. Image is bounded by a drop shadow rounded corner transparent element.

2. Wildlife image displaying fine

details (fur, whiskers. etc.) Overlaying the image is a raster/vector transparent element with drop shadow. Please note the dramatic ink savings across both raster and vector elements. Poor quality conversions could cause the drop shadow vignettes to break and loss of detail in the image.

3. Dark background, furniture image

with fine details in wood grain, basket and chair seat.

4. This exterior landscape image is

of a highly reflective chrome object. Attention should again be focused on the accuracy of conversion and smooth rendering and no tonal breakdown, this image is also bordered with a transparent border.

5. This landscape image displays both high detail and highlight

detail in the misted background. Please note the maintenance of the strong details without degradation of the graduated misted areas. This image is bordered with a large drop shadow frame using transparency.
