Holy Communion and the Baptism of Maia Rhian Oliver and Dylan Lucas Stringer
1

we stand to sing

(497)

Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King. The heavens are not too high, his praise may thither fly: the earth is not too low, his praises there may grow. Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King. Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King. The church with psalms must shout, no door can keep them out; but above all the heart must bear the longest part. Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King. The Lord be with you and also with you We rejoice today with the families and friends of Maia and Dylan as they come for Baptism. God forgives us in Christ and heals us by the Holy Spirit. Let us as wayward children return to God and confess our sins. Father, you come to meet us when we return to you: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
2

Spirit, you give us life and peace: Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit all our days. Amen. Glory, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest; Peace to his people on earth, peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, Almighty God and Father We worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Glory, glory to God, Glory to God in the highest; Peace to his people on earth, peace to his people on earth. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer, receive our prayer, receive our prayer. You alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory, the glory, the glory of God the Father.
3

Amen, amen, amen, Amen, amen, amen.

COLLECT, prayer for the day

God of truth, help us to keep your law of love and to walk in ways of wisdom, that we may find true life in Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.
We sit for THE LITURGY OF THE WORD The First Reading from 1 Kings 8: 22-23, 41-43
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands to heaven. He said, O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and steadfast love for your servants who walk before you with all their heart, Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a distant land because of your name for they shall hear of your great name, your mighty hand, and your outstretched armwhen a foreigner comes and prays towards this house, then hear in heaven your dwellingplace, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and so that they may know that your name has been invoked on this house that I have built.

This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

We stand and sing as the Gospel Book is brought to the people. All turn to face the centre of church.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to LUKE 7: 1-10 Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us. And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my slave, Do this, and the slave does it. When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

At the end the reader says

THE DECISION
Felicity addresses Maia: Do you want to be baptised? and she answers in her own words Parents and Godparents, In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising into new life with him. Therefore I ask:

Do you turn to Christ? I turn to Christ Do you repent of your sins? I repent of my sins Do you renounce evil? I renounce evil
THE ANOINTING IN OIL WITH THE SIGN OF THE CROSS

Maia Rhian/Dylan Lucas, Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of his cross.

Parents and Godparents are invited to make the sign of the cross on their foreheads

Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified. Fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the devil and remain faithful to Christ to the end of your lives. May almighty God deliver you from the powers of darkness, restore in you the image of his glory and lead you in the light and obedience of Christ. Amen
we all stand for the procession to the font as we sing

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Praise the God of all creation who keeps his promise for ever We thank you for the gift of water to sustain, refresh and cleanse all life. Over the water the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through water you led the Israelites from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land. In water Jesus was baptised by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit to lead us from the death of sin to newness of life. Bless this water that those who are washed in it may be made one with Christ in his death and resurrection, to be cleansed and delivered from all sin. Send your Holy Spirit on them that, renewed in your image, they may walk by the light of faith and continue for ever in life eternal. Amen Let us affirm with Maia Rhian and Dylan Lucas and their families and friends our common faith in Christ Jesus Do you believe and trust in God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist?
7

I believe and trust in him Do you believe and trust in God the Son who took our human nature, died for us and rose again? I believe and trust in him Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God and makes Christ known in the world? I believe and trust in him This is the faith of the Church This is our faith We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit THE BAPTISM Maia Rhian/Dylan Lucas I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen May God, who has received you by baptism into his church pour upon you the riches of his grace that within the company of Christs pilgrim people you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory. Amen Generous and loving God, bless all who care for Maia Rhian and Dylan Lucas. Grant them your gifts of love, wisdom and faith. Pour upon them your healing and reconciling love, and protect their homes from all evil. Fill them with the light of your presence and give them the joy of your Kingdom. Amen

We sing as we return to the front of church where Maia Rhian and Dylan Lucas will be welcomed.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

we remain standing
The Lord is here His Spirit is with us Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give thanks and praise It is always right to give you thanks, God our Creator, loving and faithful, holy and strong. You made us and the whole universe, and filled your world with life. You sent your Son to live among us, Jesus our Saviour, Mary's child. He suffered on the cross; he died to save us from our sins; he rose in glory from the dead. You send your Spirit to bring new life to the world, and clothe us with power from on high. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of powr and God of might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
10

Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name, he who comes in the name of the Lord. hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. On the night before he died, Jesus shared a meal with his friends. He took the bread, and thanked you. He broke it, and gave it to them, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this to remember me. After the meal, Jesus took the cup of wine. He thanked you, and gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you. This is my blood, the new promise of God's unfailing love. Do this to remember me. Father, as we bring this bread and wine, and remember his death and resurrection, send your Holy Spirit, that we who share these gifts may be fed by Christ's body and his blood. Pour your Spirit on us that we may love one another, work for the healing of the earth, and share the good news of Jesus, as we wait for his coming in glory. For honour and praise belong to you, Father, with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit: one God, for ever and ever Amen.

we sit and silence is kept

As our Saviour taught us so we pray: Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be your name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
11

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many we are one body because we all share in the one bread Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of god, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us your peace, grant us your peace. You prepare a table for us, offering not just bread, not just wine, not just blessing, but your very self so that we may be filled, forgiven, healed, blessed and made new.

The Servers & Choir receive communion followed by the congregation. We sit as we sing the hymns during Communion Everyone is welcome to come to the altar rail to receive a blessing or the bread and the wine
12

Here is bread, here is wine, Christ is with us, he is with us. Break the bread, taste the wine, Christ is with us here.

In this bread there is healing, in this cup is life for ever. In this moment, by the Spirit, Christ is with us here.
Here is grace, here is peace, Christ is with us, he is with us; know his grace, find his peace, feast on Jesus here. Here we are, joined as one, Christ is with us, he is with us; well proclaim, till he comes, Jesus crucified. (519) MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE. Where there is hatred let me bring Your love; Where there is injury, Your pardon, Lord; And where theres doubt, true faith in You.

1993 Make Way Music, PO Box 263 Croydon, Surrey CR9 5AP

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of Your peace. Where theres despair in life let me bring hope; Where there is darkness, only light; And where theres sadness, ever joy.
13

Make me a channel of Your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving to all men that we receive, And in dying that were born to eternal life.
when everyone has been to the altar rail we say together:

Eternal Father, we thank you for nourishing us with these heavenly gifts: may our communion strengthen us in faith, build us up in hope, and make us grow in love; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. . Amen THE BANNS OF MARRIAGE and NOTICES

GIVING OF A LIGHTED CANDLE Maia Rhian and Dylan Lucas and their parents come to the front
God has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and has given us a place with the children of light. You have received the light of Christ walk in this light all the days of your life. Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father.
We stand for the blessing May the Father from whom every family on earth and in heaven received its name, strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith and that knowing his love, broad and long, deep and high you may be filled with all the fullness of God. and the blessing.. Amen
14

In Christ alone my hope is found, he is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone! who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save: till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied for every sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground his body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain: then bursting forth in glorious Day up from the grave he rose again! And as he stands in victory sins curse has lost its grip on me, for I am his and he is mine bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me; from lifes first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from his hand; till he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ Ill stand.
