DAY ONE The Role of the Manager Identifying the responsibilities of a manager and the skills required Managing the transition to manager Developing a positive self-image and confidence in your role Planning and Organising Identifying your core purpose and determining priorities Setting goals and objectives Developing strategies to achieve goals and objectives Achieving organisational objectives through teamwork Time Management Learning solid techniques for managing your time Identifying time wasters Managing meetings effectively Managing emails efficiently Delegation and Coaching Understanding the importance of effective delegation Identifying tasks that can be delegated and opportunities for coaching Learning styles - understanding how people learn Developing and practising your coaching skills DAY TWO Motivation Recognising motivational factors and why people work Assessing your motivation and that of your team Identifying practical ways of motivating and encouraging your team Leadership Understanding the difference between managers and leaders Recognising styles of leadership Choosing the appropriate leadership style in any given situation Interpersonal Communication Understand and develop your non-verbal communication, including body language and the use of silence Improving your listening skills Assertiveness Developing and practising assertive techniques for handling and resolving difficult situations Identifying sources of power and how to use them effectively Dealing with the matrix organisation DAY THREE
