Research Experience
03/2013 - Present Duke University - Postdoctoral Associate. Current research in trapped ion quantum computation and quantum communication. We are interested in a dual species ion chain, co-trapping Ytterbium and Barium ions to implement a memory and photonic interface qubit, respectively. Utilizing coherent single-photon wavelength conversion to generate telecom photons from the trapped Barium ions, along with development of novel single photon detectors, we hope to implement long-range ion-ion entanglement as a demonstration of scalable quantum communication. Also of interest are experiments such as a loophole-free Bell test. JILA/University of Colorado - Postdoctoral Associate. Worked on coherent optical splitting and recombination of a BEC trapped on an atom chip for an ultracold atomic gyroscope. JILA/University of Colorado - Research assistant in an experimental atomic physics laboratory. Played pivotal role in large DARPA program to achieve milestones in the worlds most compact and portable system for creating Bose-Einstein condensates. Lead student on a successful IARPA Phase I grant developing a novel quantum computing system. Designed and built complete laser and optics system, optomechanics package, control system, and miniature vacuum system. National Institute of Standards and Technology - Research assistant in the Technology, Time and Frequency Metrology group. Designed and constructed vibration suppression system for low-noise optical equipment. Investigated fundamental properties and noise characteristics of a dual-ber injection-locked optoelectronic oscillator. University of Colorado - Teaching assistant. Led recitation sections and graded for calculus-based classical physics. Graded for upper level electro-magnetism. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory - Summer research grant in the Nuclear Sciences Division. Developed Monte Carlo simulation of muon background eects in underground particle detectors.
