Teacher: Barbu Cristina Date: the 3rd of May 2012 Class:9th grade School: Liceul Teoretic Ion Barbu Time of lesson:50 minutes Level: intermediate Lesson title: Real and Imaginary Situations Topic: First and Second Conditional Skills involved: speaking, reading, writing Materials: worksheets, pictures; Textbook: Prospects Procedures: conversation, brainstorming, dialogues; Types of activities: frontal, individual, pair work, group work; Objectives: a) Cognitive objectives: to express promises, opinions and conditions; to give advice; to imagine what one would do, think or feel in certain situations; to write a quiz.

b) Affective objectives:

- to show interest in the topic; - to make students confident in using their skills; - to have fun; - to stimulate students imagination and creativity.

Teachers Activity T enters the classroom, greets Ss, asks them how they are, checks the attendance list. T asks Ss to review the task for the day. T. corrects the mistakes, if any. T introduces the new lesson in context showing Ss a poster of a political candidate giving a speech and asking them to focus on the candidates promise: If we win, well reduce unemployment.T. asks Ss a set of questions aimed at eliciting the grammatical structures on which the new lesson is based: What verb form comes after if? Is he talking about the present or the future? Is he sure about winning? Is he sure hell reduce unemployment? What form of the verb do we use in the result clause? In a similar way, T elicits the rule for the 2nd Conditional.

T hands Ss worksheets containing further practice on the use of conditionals explaining how to solve each task. T explains that each pair of Ss will get a piece of paper containing a small problem that they may experience/may be experiencing. T explains that she is going to give Ss some cues which they will consider when writing the questions for a quiz using the Second Conditional.

Ss complete the tasks either individually or in pairs. Ss draw the pieces of paper and in twos give each other advice for the respective problem, beginning If I were you, Id. Ss work in 2 groups and come up with the questions for the quiz. Now Group A asks Group B questions and the other way round. The group with the most correct answers wins.
