A Family Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of our family. Enlighten our hearts and minds that we may live more fully this vocation to love. In our daily life and work, may we reflect the self-giving love which you, O Father, eternally show with your Son and the Holy Spirit. Let your love be evident in the peace that reigns in our home and in the faith we profess and live. May our family always be a place of generosity, understanding, forgiveness and joy. Kindly give us the wisdom and courage to be witnesses to your eternal design for the family; and grant that the Holy Family of Nazareth may always guide our path to holiness as a family. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

If you are currently involved in the parish or wish to become involved, you are welcome to join us to learn more about Parish Leadership at Christ the King and all the various ministries and organizations that serve our parish. The Pastoral Parish Council and Parish Leadership wish to thank everyone who has been of service for the past year and welcome those who wish to become more involved in parish life. We look forward to seeing everyone at the picnic on June 4. For more information on Parish Leadership or about the picnic on June 4, please contact Anna Weselak (630-620-7797 parishcouncil@ctklombard.org ) or Deacon Frank Lillig (630-369-6077 or frank@ctklombard.org).

Welcome Little Sisters of the Poor

"We welcome the Little Sisters of the Poor, who will be speaking at all the Masses on May 25th & 26th. For over 170 years, the Little Sisters have dedicated their lives to caring for the elderly poor. Our aging population continues to grow, and dignity at the end of life is increasingly threatened. The Little Sisters believe the elderly are our greatest treasures. Our elderly brothers and sisters lives have brought them a unique perspective in our human family. Through their accomplishments, our elders bring lessons in endurance and self-sacrifice. Through their life-long experiences, the elderly bring lessons in what is important in life. The Little Sisters welcome the elderly as Jesus Christ Himself and serve them with love and respect until God calls them home. Please prayerfully consider supporting the Little Sisters of the Poor with a donation."

Year of Faith: Catechism Corner

The Beatitudes reveal the goal of human existence, the ultimate end of human acts: God calls us to his own beatitude. This vocation is addressed to each individual personally, but also to the Church as a whole, the new people made up of those who have accepted the promise and live from it in faith. (CCC, n. 1719)

Understanding the Eucharist

Once a militant opponent of the Catholic Church, Dr. Scott Hahn highlights the key misunderstandings people have about the Eucharist. In this powerful presentation, he explains the Church's teaching from a scriptural and historical perspective in an entertaining and thorough fashion. Parishioner Comments: This is an absolutely brilliant outline giving biblical proof of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist! Mike - Bogota, NJ It has given me some incredible tools with which to defend my faith! I wish to purchase several of these CDs to distribute them to friends who do not know the full truth. Randolph - St. Claire, PA

Understanding the Lords Prayer

The Lord's Prayer is the centerpiece of the most famous sermon ever preached - the Sermon on the Mount. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that this prayer "is truly the summary of the whole Gospel." Blending scripture with the incredible insights of the early Church Fathers, Dr. Scott Hahn helps us discover the critical importance of this prayer in our daily journey of faith. Parishioner Comments: This is an absolutely brilliant outline giving biblical proof of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist! Mike - Bogota, NJ This has opened a new vista for me, a convert. How beautiful the concept, and the presentation really kept me rapt. I can't wait to get to Mass now! Maurice - Ft. Myer, FL These audio CDs are available in the Narthex for only $3.00 each.

The Leadership of Christ the King Parish met on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:00 in the Parish Life Center. At that meeting all Commissions of the Parish were represented. We discussed the Celebration of Faith featuring Dr. Scott Hahn on May 25 and the Diocesan Catholic Schools Agreement. Also addressed was the need for new organization and ministry representatives on the parish commissions who will attend Parish Leadership meetings. It was decided that the Parish Leadership would host a picnic on June 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the PLC to celebrate the accomplishments and volunteers for the past year and to invite other parishioners to become involved in the coming year. The evening closed with a final prayer and the completion of End of the Year Reports from each Commission, Ministry and Organization.

LOVE Christian Clearinghouse

Christ the King Parish, in partnership with Love Christian Clearinghouse, is helping members of our community overcome a temporary financial set-back through the work of the LOVE call-in center in Westmont. LOVE receives an average of 300 calls a month and is in need of volunteers to listen to our callers, share the love of Christ over the phone and offer the appropriate help. 3 hour weekly shifts are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 to 12 or 1 to 4. Plenty of training is provided. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, please attend a 1 hour Volunteer Orientation session on Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the Westmont office. THE DAY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Johns Gospel tells us that when Jesus breathed on the disciples, the Holy Spirit came into them, empowering them to forgive sins and to gather all people into union with one another. The book of Genesis had explained the divisions among nations with the story of the Tower of Babel. In rebellious pride, human beings had struggled to become equal to God. The result was chaos, strife, the inability even to speak the same language among themselves. Todays reading from Acts tells how the Spirit has just the opposite effect. Strangers from many nations hear and understand one another, each in his or her own tongue. This message of unity in the Spirit is repeated in the reading from Corinthians. There are many gifts, many ways to serve. One way is not higher, nor one person better than another. There is but one Spirit, who accomplishes all the different works we do, acting through us. Bequest
A charitable bequest is one of the easiest ways you can leave a lasting impact on our parish. Benefits of Your Bequest Receive estate tax charitable deduction. Lessen the burden of taxes on your family. Leave a lasting legacy. How Do You Make a Bequest? A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or a charity as part of your estate plan. Your Bequest Options A bequest may be made in several ways: Gift of a percentage of your estate Gift of a specific dollar amount or asset Gift from the balance or residue of your estate Making a Bequest of Your Retirement Assets A retirement asset, such as an IRA account, makes an excellent bequest to us. If the IRA were given to your family, much of the value may be lost through estate and income taxes. By designating a charity as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA (using a beneficiary designation form provided by your custodian), the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death and your estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction. Please contact the CTK Business office, if you are interested. Fr. Peter

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME
Christ the King Parish has over 50 Ministries under five commissions; Administration, Faith Formation, Liturgy and Worship, Service Commission and At Large Commission. The At-Large Commission or Core Teams will serve multifaceted tasks as the needs are defined by the Council on an annual basis. Members of this commission may include past council and commission members, and other individuals who come forward to attend the annual parish ministry day. AT LARGE COMMISSION PARISH COMMUNITY BUILDING [CTK offers at various times for various reasons whole parish community building events or commonly known as fun raisers. Each commission is asked to participate in the event that is geared toward the whole parish.] REVERENCE FOR LIFE This groups stewardship is based on our Catholic roots in Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching. This ministry works with the Diocesan Life Office especially during the months of October and January on topics related to the respect for all life from conception to natural death. STEWARDSHIP[ Each commission models stewardship to our parish, community and to others. Each member models stewardship through giving back to God for all of the goodness that they have received. Many members commit their time, their expertise and their financial contributions to the parish.] STRATEGIC PASTORAL PLAN This group works on future planning for the Parish, conducts surveys to investigate future needs and helps sets long-term Parish goals. VOCATIONS [Each commission is responsible for supporting vocations through their actions, awareness and activities. Vocation awareness is understood as Gods call for our lives to be holy, whether we are religious, married or single.]

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In todays first reading we encounter the Holy Spirit who at Pentecost came rushing in over Jesus followers like a powerful wind. It must have been a frightening experience for them. But their great acts of prophetic witness began when the Spirit drew them out of their comfort zones. Jesus said the Holy Spirit, like the wind, blows where it wills; into the lives of good stewards, empowering them to perform wondrous acts of healing, reconciliation and evangelization; encouragingthem to proclaim the Gospel with boldness and confidence. All of that is a little beyond the comfort zone where most of us live our lives. This week, reflect on how the Holy Spirit may be calling you out of your personal comfort zone.
