Why Apply Liquid Manure?

Most of the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) in livestock diets is excreted in manure. Manure contains these and other major nutrients in addition to important trace elements. Use of manure on crop elds can potentially replace commercial fertilizers with these nutrients, and offers a more organic approach to crop fertilization. Considering the overall costs of manure management versus commercial fertilizers, it is worthwhile thinking about the nancial benets of better nutrient handling, while at the same time reducing the pollution risks associated with the application of commercial fertilizers. To ensure that the full nutrient value of the slurry reaches the crops, it is important that the machinery used for application can provide accurate measured ows. This means that considerable thought should be given to the selection of appropriate machinery, as well as its calibration and operation, to assure it is capable of providing the intended volume and an acceptable spread pattern. The accuracy of spreading (laterally and longitudinally) is described by the Coefcient of Variation (C of V). A high number indicates poor accuracy. Research suggests that slurry tankers should achieved a C of V less than 15%. Certied tests conrm that Vogelsang systems typically achieve accurate applications with a C of V below 10%.

Liquid Manure Application & Irrigation Systems

As the inventor of this close-to-the-ground spreading technique, Vogelsang is the market leading manufacturer of high performance dribble bar systems. Our latest technology is highly accurate spreading systems at large working widths of 100ft (30m) and more. Vogelsang works continuously with independent agricultural and environmental organizations to further develop and improve its dribble bar systems. Our systems are tested under the harshest conditions for durability and accuracy. Theyre also designed to be easily mounted to any type of slurry tank vehicle. Mounting may be either xed, or as a removable 4-point hitch.

SwingUp
This high-performance system has proven itself as our standard design for most liquid manure spreading applications. It offers spreading widths of 20ft (6m), 24ft (7.5m), 30ft (9m), 40ft (12m), 50ft (15m), and 60ft (18m). The SwingUp also provides highly accurate spreading using any of our distribution heads. The arms fold along side the vehicle above the fenders to create minimal width for easy transportation while DropStop technology keeps the roads clean. Other features are available such as ComfortFlowControl, TeleShift, Self Levelling and EasyPack. The arms can be controlled by a remote unlocking unit for easy deployment and retraction.

SwingMax
State-of-the-art technology for the toughest demands. The SwingMax is the latest iteration of our systems. SwingMax increases your coverage area to a whopping 100ft (30m). We can even go wider on a custom build. All the same features are available as the SwingUp. Dual ExaCut distributor heads provide highly accurate distribution over the entire coverage area. In addition SwingMax offers hydraulic pivoting, suspension compensation and a 4-point hitch design for easy removal.

Compax
Maximum spreading widths with minimum transport widths. Weve found the happy medium for situations where you need large coverage in tight quarters. Compax mounts to the rear of the vehicle eliminating any extra width when traveling. Standard widths are 30ft (9m), 40ft (12m), and 50ft (15m). ExaCut distributor heads provide highly accurate distribution over the entire coverage area. All the same features are available as the SwingUp.

Irrigation System
Weve developed a mobile irrigation system thats based on the technology of our dribble bar system. The system is pressurized by a Vogelsang rotary lobe pump making your tanker vehicle independent of a pressurized water supply. This system is perfect for areas where xed irrigation isnt economical or physically feasible. The Compax-based system is a front or rear mounted assembly which folds in front or behind the vehicle to eliminate any extra width when in transit. Water jet type ttings are available to provide the most accurate and efcient application of water at widths up 50ft (15m). We also offer a rear mounted SwingMax version which folds along side of the vehicle and extends up to 100ft (30m).

Quick Facts about Mobile Irrigation

In todays times of slim prot margins and high xed costs, boosting vegetable and fruit yield is becoming increasingly important. For many agricultural operations, irrigation and watering is an important factor. Fixed stationary systems are available in a variety of congurations. However, these installations require substantial investment and are difcult to justify for changing and small areas, especially when watering is done only on an occasional basis, or on selected areas. Vogelsangs mobile irrigation system has perfectly lled this niche. Water is applied through the dribble hoses and onto the ground, or is sprayed by adding jet ttings to the hoses. By using such water jets combined with adjustable hose position to match crop rows, your plants receive a precise amount of water.

As the arms of the band spreader fold, they ip upside down to prevent remaining liquid in the hoses from draining out all over the roads when in transit or the oor of your storage area. You can move the position of the hoses to match crop row patterns This feature allows you to close individual or groups of hoses to match your desired coverage area. Levelling: A hydraulic controller allows the unit to match the contour of the land in cases where there is uneven ground.

TeleShift:

What makes Vogelsang systems unique is our attention to performance and accuracy while creating a system that is easy to use, transport and store. Shown above, this system uses our TeleShift technology to retract the assembly to match the length of the vehicle. This makes this vehicle easier to drive and maneuver.

Another environmental concern that weve addressed is the fact that many hosing systems leak manure on the roads on the way to and from the elds. This system uses our DropStop technology that actually ips the entire assembly upside down to prevent any liquids from running out of the system while in transit or in storage.

Liquid Manure Distribution Heads

With the development of the rst dribble bar system in 1980, Vogelsang became the market leader in liquid manure distribution systems. Whether its a dribble bar system, sliding foot spreader, manure slurry injector/cultivator, manure slurry injector or other hose-based manure slurry spreading system, the heart of every system is the liquid manure distributor. All Vogelsang distribution heads are distinguished by their uniform spreading, reliability, long service life and ease of maintenance.

Dosimat
The Dosimat is our original distribution head concept. It can be easily combined with all known spreading systems and manure tanks. A cutting rotor is driven by a hydraulic motor. The liquid manure ows to the rotor and is distributed to the hose outlets. The cutting edges glide over the cutting screen and brous materials are reduced to a suitable size to pass through the hose without blockage. During operation only a few hose outlets are put under pressure. As a result, clogging of the individual hose outlets is prevented, and an excellent distribution is assured.

DosiCut

Dosimat

The DosiCut, based on the Dosimat, has a RotaCut cutting unit installed inside it. The RotaCut macerates coarse and brous materials. Then the slurry ows to the rotor and is distributed to the hose outlets. Here the cutting edges of the rotor slide over the cutting screen, where brous materials are recut. The DosiCut is ideal for extreme types of manure slurries containing above average solids and delivers the highest possible spreading accuracy. As with the DosiMat, the DosiCut can be mounted to any known tanking system.

ExaCut
The ExaCut is specially developed as a decentralized distributor. Thanks to its compact design it can be easily integrated with the side arm of a dribble bar or tted with a slide-foot unit. This makes it possible to achieve extreme spreading widths of 100 ft (30m) and more. The ExaCut is also gaining wider popularity as a central distributor because of its integrated heavy object separator, large objects simply fall into the collection bag at the bottom of the unit. The manure slurry enters the side inlet and goes directly in the distributor housing. The manure slurry is uniformly distributed to the dribble hoses by the hydraulically driven rotor. The rotor is designed to rotate in both directions to keep the cutting blades sharp which in turn, prevent clogging of the unit. Blades made of special hardened steel have a self-sharpening effect as they pass over the openings of the cutting screen. Fibrous material is cut with ease. The automatic blade adjustment assures optimum cutting action. Heavy objects such as stones or metal fragments are collected inside the vessel for easy disposal.

DosiCut

ExaCut How our distribution heads work...

Fluid is pumped into the head through the top of the unit and into the spinning rotor as shown on the diagram of the Dosimat. As the bar rotates, its exit holes on each end at on the bottom line up with a hose inlet. A shot of uid is dispensed into each hose this way as the bar revolves over the hoses. The ExaCut works similarly but features two arrays of hose inlets vertically on opposing sides of the unit. Fluid is pumped in through the side into the two spinning rotors and out the hose inlets.

High Performance Pumping Systems

R Pumps
The R Series pump line is a very economical pump for agricultural use. Its robust construction and small footprint is perfect for mobile farming applications such as lling and emptying tankers and transferring slurry between pits. The economical R116 series offers a cost-effective solution to many agricultural applications. The R136 series is a higher capacity pump that is available with either straight bi-lobes or our exclusive pulsation-free HiFlo Lobes.

Pro-Pumps Two Wing Lobes

Our original lobe design handles tough agricultural applications where large solids are present in the liquid. The Two Wing Lobe design allows our pumps the largest cavity between the lobe and the housing segment which is why it can handle such large solids. Two Wing Lobes are typically used in our R & Pro-Pump series pumps but can be used in any of our pumps if necessary. Several coating options are available to suit your requirements.

R Pump & Pro-Pump

The Pro-Pump is a development of the R136 model. It offers the same performance and durability but with an easy access door allowing maintenance to be done in place without disconnecting any piping. This makes the Pro-Pump perfect for on-board mobile tanker applications where working space is limited and its necessary to service the pump without removing it from the vehicle.

VX Pumps
The VX Series is our advanced line of pumps. Youll nd VX pumps in many applications in agriculture, industry and municipalities. To minimize wear and maximize performance these pumps feature design innovations that you can only get from Vogelsang such as HiFlo Lobes, Blockring Cartridge Seals and adjustable Dynamic Injection housing segments. The VX series features the Q version (shown middle left) which only needs inboard bearings. The QD version (shown middle right) has both inboard and outboard bearings which allows it to handle higher capacities and pressure. The removable front cover on both the Q & QD allows quick access to the wetend for easy inline maintenance without disturbing connected piping.

VX Q Pump

Four Wing HiFlo Lobes

The convoluted, specically engineered geometric design of the HiFlo rotor allows for pulsation-free pumping through the entire range of operation. Its unique design is excellent for applications requiring low shear, highly entrained air, low to high viscosity products, and products requiring gentle solids handling. HiFlo lobes are typically used in our VX series pumps but can also be used in our Pro-Pumps series as well. HiFlo Lobes are available in several coating options to suit your requirements.

VX QD Pump

Marathon Multi-Stage Pumps

In situations where high-pressure is required, Vogelsang has developed a pump based on the VX QD series that features two stages within the same wet-end. The Marathon pump divides the pressure between the chambers to handle up to 232psi (16 bar).

Marathon Pump

How our rotary lobe pumps work...

HiFlo, 100% pulsation-free rotors are driven on each shaft by internal timing gears to rotate in opposite directions. The motion of the rotors creates an expanding cavity on the inlet side to allow uid to ow into the pump chamber. The rotors carry the uid around the housing segments to the outlet side, where it is forced out of the pump as the cavity contracts. Flow is controlled by the speed of the pump, and its displacement per revolution.

Pumps designed for highly viscous liquids containing particles and debris.
Since 1929, Vogelsang has been a world leader, manufacturing a family of high quality, extremely dependable sludge handling and pumping products for the worlds industrial, municipal, and agricultural markets. With the release of the HiFlo pulsation-free rotors, used exclusively in the Vogelsang positive displacement, rotary lobe pump, Vogelsang once again marked itself as an industry leader. HiFlos unique design allows for pulsation-free operation through the entire range of pumping. Additionally our pumps can pull a suction lift to 25ft (8m), run dry, pump in either direction, and feature a minimum of 25% more sealing lines per series, over other conventional designs. Coupled with Vogelsangs uniquely designed rotary lobe pump, the combination will allow ows from 5 to 4,485 US gpm (1.1-1,020 m3/hr), and pressures up to 232psi (16 bar). Product viscosities from water to thick slurry are easily pumped by all of our pumps. Power options include: electric, hydraulic or power take off. When your application requires an affordable pump, that has low shear, high efciency, low cost operation, an ability to pump highly entrained air and high solids content, you owe it to yourself to nd out more about Vogelsang Pumps.

High Performance Pumping Systems

Tough applications call for tough pumps.
Pumping liquid manure and sludge is extremely demanding on a pump. The pump needs to be able to handle thick and heavy liquids containing abrasives and solids. Solids commonly found in liquid manure such as stones and metal fragments as well as brous materials such as wood and rags can quickly damage a pump thats not built to handle such liquids. In addition to solids handling ability, the agricultural pump must be able to pull a suction lift and run dry. For mobile applications, the pump must be small in relation to its capacity, easy to operate and simple to maintain. Vogelsang pumps are built specically to take on the harsh conditions of agricultural applications. Our rotary lobe pumps have extremely high solids handling ability giving them the power to pump liquids containing the abrasive solids that are unavoidable when dealing with liquid manure. Our pumps can operate in forward or reverse on the y. They also can pull 25ft (8m) of suction lift and run dry. Our Pro and VX Series pumps feature a easy-access door to the wet end which makes them very easy to service in place without removing them from the vehicle, hitch or inline assembly. You dont need to remove connected piping which minimizes downtime due to repairs or scheduled maintenance.

Versatile Pumping Power.

Our pumps are very compact for their capacity making them ideal for mobile applications such as tanker loading and unloading. They can be mounted most anywhere on a tanker frame, even sideways. The ability to run forward or reverse makes it as easy to off load liquid as it is to load. The ability to pull such a high suction lift allows for lling from deep or inaccessible pits and lagoons. A small but high capacity pump is perfect for use on a three point hitch. Powered by a power take off, Vogelsang pumps are compact, powerful and even leave room for our RotaCut Inline Macerator. Transfer sludge between lagoons, ll or empty your tanker, Vogelsang pumps do it all. Vogelsang pumps using our exclusive HiFlo lobes, provide pulsation-free pumping action. When feeding a belt press, centrifuge or digester, the more consistent the ow feeding the equipment, the better your result will be. When using a land application system, a consistent feed to the distributor will ensure that it can properly feed liquid manure to the applicators whether they be band spreaders, shallow disc injection or deep injection systems. The Vogelsang pump also achieves a consistent feed for both tank application systems and umbilical systems alike.

RotaCut Cyclone

How the RotaCut works...

Placed on the suction side of the pump the RotaCut uses a specially patterned screen and rotating blade assembly to macerate solids that are typically in sludge such as hair, rags and wood fragments. The objects are drawn into the cutting head where they are reduced to a size acceptable to downstream pumps and equipment. Heavy objects such as metal fragments sink to the bottom of the basin where they are collected for easy removal.

The ultimate in solids reduction - reduces and removes solids to protect downstream pumps and equipment
Our series of high performance macerators effectively reduces solids to specic size requirements, and reduces the costs associated with the operation of downstream equipment. Objects and debris suspended in liquid such as plastic fragments, rubber, hair, rags, applicators, plastic pens, string, wood, bones, etc. are drawn through the cutting screen and shredded by the self-sharpening rotary blades into an acceptable size for the downstream equipment to pass. Optional cutter screen congurations provide the ability to condition solids to specic sizes, down to less than 1/4 (6mm). Features include auto reverse, self-sharpening blades, and reusable cutter screens. RotaCut is 100% rebuildable inline, which eliminates the need to send out a cutter cartridge for reconditioning. Placed on the suction or discharge side of any manufacturers pump, the RotaCut will eliminate ragging, reduce solids and protect down-stream equipment. Protect pumps, distributors, digesters and belt presses from damaging solids and debris commonly present in agricultural slurries. Choose a RotaCut when your application requires an affordable, high quality, inline rebuildable macerator, to reduce cost and increase efciency.

High Performance Macerating Systems

Mobility & Performance
Due to the demanding nature of agricultural applications, macerators must be rugged, versatile, simple to operate and easy to maintain. Our line of RotaCut macerators are designed to perform in tough agricultural applications. When using liquid manure for land application a macerator is required that can not only handle the liquid but is portable and compact. The RotaCut MXL provides the best protection for your mobile tanker from damaging solids suspended within incoming liquids. What sets the MXL apart from other macerators is the large heavy duty solids collection box. If youre working with liquid manure, youre going to encounter solids. You need a unit that can macerate oating solids such as ear tags, hoof trimmings and wooden debris. In addition, the unit must be able to isolate and remove heavy objects such as stones and metal fragments. The MXL not only does both but even makes it easy to clean out the unit after your tank is full via the quick release cover. Simply open the latches and clean the collection box to dispose of the solids that would have gone into the tank. The RotaCut Cylone also excels at mobile applications. The Cylones high solids handling makes it ideal for mounting on three point hitch assemblies as shown to the far left. Combined with a Vogelsang Lobe pump powered by a power take off, the cylone handles tough solids found in pits and lagoons. Centrifugal spinning action of the cutting head and its horizontal orientation gives Cyclone the power to trap heavy solids in the collection basin and keep them there for removal from the system. Cyclone is the best line of defense when the liquid is laden with heavy solids.

Stationary Inline Protection

As on-site manure dewatering equipment such as belt presses and centrifuges become increasingly popular, effective and reliable solids handling is necessary to prevent damage and premature wear to the feed pumps and processing equipment. Vogelsangs RotaCut Inline series offers true protection of downstream equipment from damaging solids and debris. An Inline RotaCut is great for protecting Belt Presses, Digesters and Centrifuges from solids and debris that could cause major damage to this type of equipment. Unlike an inline twin shafted grinder that merely passes on solids, the RotaCut will remove these items before they get a chance to cause damage. As with all of the RotaCut line, Inlines are simple to maintain. Access to the cutting head is gained through the quick release latch. Bio-gas Mixing & Processing Systems

BioCut
The BioCut is a macerating and pumping unit designed specically for Bio-gas processing facilities. The unit consists of a specialized RotaCut unit combined with a VX Q series pump that share a common assembly base. Using a BioCut allows you to have one pumping station that can feed an array of digesters from one location. The RotaCut unit used on the BioCut is designed to handle the long brous material that is common in the slurry used for Bio-gas. Unlike the standard RotaCuts, the slurry is fed directly into the cutting head which utilizes a wiper that prevents clogging and ragging of the unit. The VX Q pump provides high-performance pumping power to move the slurry throughout your system. You get all the great benets of our most advanced line of pumps including: pulsation-free pumping, 25ft (8m) of suction lift, run dry and high solids handling. Both the Pump and RotaCut offer easy inline maintenance with quick access to internal parts which keeps you up and running longer and downtime to a minimum. The BioCut is available in several size variations to suit your particular pumping requirements.

How the BioCut works...

The BioCut works just like the regular RotaCut and Pumps. The pump provides the suction and draws the liquid into the RotaCuts collection basin. The heavy objects are caught in the collection basin to prevent damage to the pump or other downstream equipment. The lighter objects that are suspended in the liquid are drawn upward with the ow through the cutting screen where they are reduced to a size suitable for the rest of the system to accommodate without risk of blockage. After the solids have been reduced the liquid is drawn to the pump and sent on into the system to be delivered to the digester.

Bio-gas Mixing & Processing Systems

QuickMix
The QuickMix is our concept for bio-gas applications where large quantities of dry matter need to be quickly broken down and mixed with liquid to create a bio-suspension. The result of this process will deliver an accurate mixture of coferments to a digester ready to begin the fermentation process. QuickMix provides you with all the benets of a dual auger and great dry solids handling. At the same time you get all of the high performance pumping power of our rotary lobe pumps. The combination saves you a lot of space and cuts down on power consumption. However, space and power savings are only the beginning in terms of why you should have a QuickMix. The real benet is your ability to precisely control the properties of your mixture at all times which allows optimum fermentation of the slurry. The more control you have over the coferments going into the digester, the more gas youre going to yield. Another benet is the fact that one unit is able to service multiple digesters by simply opening and closing valves to direct the ow to the unit that needs to be lled. This eliminates the hassles involved with direct feeding. Odor is a big problem in many areas. The QuickMix allows you to mix on the spot which drastically reduces the odors involved in using a mixing pit. The QuickMix uses many of the same parts used in our VX QD Series Pump. The easy access QD Door allows for quick maintenance with little down time.

How the QuickMix works...

The QuickMix is basically a combination of a dual auger and a rotary lobe pump. The dry solids are fed into the hopper at the top and the augers begin to break them down while advancing the material into the mixing area. The tting at the base of the hopper ows liquid manure into the bottom of the hopper where it begins to mix with the dry solids as they advance toward the pump end of the unit. By the time the liquid gets to the pump, it has been thoroughly mixed with the dry solids creating a slurry that is of an ideal viscosity for delivery to the digester.
