In 1916, we envisioned Oxxford Clothes to be the standard for comparison in the field of tailored clothing. Each day, the most gifted Artisans in the industry pass through our workrooms in Chicago to craft the most exquisite, hand-made garments available. Each of our Master Tailors concentrates on a certain stage of our process: cutting, sewing, finishing and pressing. The superior talents of each of our Master Tailors and Seamstresses are fundamental to the difference between garments crafted by Oxxford, and those manufactured elsewhere. The first stage of the process begins in the cutting room, where a quiet environment is necessary for concentration on the exacting, matching standards. Hard paper patterns are made for every custom order versus the typical industry norm of making small changes to existing stock patterns. The second stage of the process moves to the sewing floor, where over 120 hands complete each and every garment. We start with the trim pieces of the garment such as the welts, flaps and small pieces that require exact matching to be cut to perfection by a specialist. Next, the armhole is constructed by using a reverse chain stitch by hand because it allows the armhole to give. We are the only manufacturer to employ this stitch and it is one of the best features in an Oxxford garment. The lapels and collars are also an exquisite feature of an Oxxford. They are hand padded, which is a feature you can only find in an Oxxford garment. The lapels alone take an hour and fifteen minutes to construct and the result is a full, elegant rolling lapel that will maintain its lay for a lifetime. Sewing the collar by hand allows us to build the concave shape required to ensure that it hugs the neck precisely, just before attaching the collar to the coat. Next, the basting of the shoulder pad, collar, top-collar and sleeve head is done. The shoulder pad is positioned and basted by hand to build a perfect line into the shoulder of the coat while creating softness, rather than a stiffer shoulder. Basting the collar by hand allows us to create a snug fitting collar while controlling the fall of the lapel. The sleeve head is then basted by hand which fills out the cap of the sleeve and allows for it to move with you. Every Oxxford garment is finished with a hand stitched edge which is performed at every 1/16 of an inch, making it nearly invisible to the human eye which is a true sign of sartorial splendor. Before each of these exquisite garments can leave the factory floor, they are pressed and put through their final examination to ensure that only the best of the best is delivered to our customer.
