Jenevieve Limqueco 11117818 Senators of Todays Time

March 13, 2013 POLISCI C31

In the coming month of May, people would elect new senatoriables for the Legislative division of the government. And starting the end of the month, it is the start of the campaigning period. I asked myself if I will vote this coming election. I said to myself that I will not vote because even though I vote for the person that I know would bring betterment to our country, still that person would not win because there would be candidates that would buy votes from the people in the country so that they could win and start to corrupt. I know that my vote counts but I am already discouraged in voting due to some factors. First factor is that voting my bet of candidates would not give me an assurance that they will win knowing that there are candidates who will buy votes from the people. Second factor is that I would line up and wait for a long time just to vote for my bet candidates, and when counting of ballots I would just know that my candidates did not win due to Factor number one. Third factor is that I do not want to feel regret of voting a bet candidate of mine and he/she did not do his/her job well in the government. It is like I added to the problem of the country instead of reducing it. People running in the elections have their own ideas and interest. With this fact in hand, we could say that these people have different ideologies. I would classify some of the senatoriables in the ideology that fits their personality. First is Mitos Magsaysay, I would put her in the Liberal section of the political spectrum because she wants government to intervene in the way that the government could make our people productive. Another reason why she I put her in the Liberal section is that she wants to change some of the things that the government do, like the budget that the government give to every department in the government. Second is Ricardo Penson, I would put him in the Liberal section of the Political Spectrum also because he also wants to change some of the things that the government used to do. Some of these things are avoid political dynasty in the government, proportionate the pork barrel that the government gives to each of the sector in the Philippines, lessen the poverty in the country, let the people vote wisely, and many more. Third is Richard Gordon, I would put him in the Liberal section of the Political Spectrum because he wants to change certain things in the government and these changes need government intervention. The changes he wants to make are: First, give motorcycles a big plate number so that the riding in tandem scheme of killing people would lessen. Second, the government needs to give more budget to the public hospitals rather than privatizing it. His reason behind this is that private hospitals would not accept a patient that do not pay and unfortunate people cannot afford to pay a big amount of money due to hospitalization. He wants to maintain the public hospitals because public hospitals would accept patients and treat them for free. Fourth is Ricalito David, I would put him in the Conservative section of the Political Spectrum because there are things that he does not want to change especially when it comes to the topic of RH Bill. He also said that faith, hope, and love are important to everyone because without these values no one can lead the people properly. Fifth is Marwil Lilasos, I

would put him in the Moderate section of the Political Spectrum because he is flexible in changing from Liberal to Conservative. He wants that our country to develop into a better country but there are also things that he does not want to change that is why there is an antiepal bill. Sixth is Teodoro Casino, I would put him in the Liberal section of the Political System because he said that our problem in the country is the system and he was fighting for the problem for nine years. He wants to change on how the markets price the commodities by removing or reducing the value-added tax. For my utopia, I would say that Mitos Magsaysay, Ricardo Penson and Teodoro Casino could help me reach my utopia because these three people want to change the country to its betterment. The reasons why they could help me are: (1) they want to eliminate poverty in the country. (2) Mitos Magsaysay and Ricardo Penson want to change on how the government allocates their funds for the pork barrel of every sector in the government. (3) Teodoro Casino wants to change our problem in the government system. (4) If given a chance to vote, I would vote Mitos Magsaysay, Ricardo Penson and Teodoro Casino. I will vote for them because I know that these three people would do a better job in the senate compared to the others. The three of them would bring betterment to our country if they do what they said they would do during the forum. They have good plans for the country and I hope that they could execute them properly in the future so that I could see betterment from our country and I could proudly say I voted for this person and my vote did not go to waste. As of now, I still do not want to vote for the coming May elections because I still have the feeling that when I vote, my vote and effort to vote will only go to waste. And I am not sure if my bet candidates would execute their plans, and if they executed their plans would it be for long-term. I hope that before the election date, my bet candidates could help me decide whether I would vote or not through their campaigns. As a first timer to vote, I would want this moment to be memorable and I do not want this to be a failure.
