RESPONSIBILITIES Area Incharge will ensure that the construction of road & pavement is according to this method statement, latest project drawings & specifications. QA&QC inspector will assure that all the relevant work is carried out in conformance with project specification, PQP and QIP. In case of any nonconformance, it will be controlled through corrective action request (CAR).

6 6.1

PROCEDURE EMBANKMENT 6.1.1 6.1.2 6.1.3 The surveyor will mark the alignment and determine ROW. Alignment shall be checked and NGLs shall be recorded along Xsections at pre-agreed intervals till the edge of ROW. Toe points of embankment shall be marked; ground surface shall be clear and grubbed, removing all vegetation and roots, as per project specifications. Ground surface shall be scarified, moisturized and compacted as per project specifications. Borrow area shall be selected after testing of borrows material to ensure compliance with the specifications. Top surface of borrow area shall be cleared by removing all vegetation. Establish OMC and MDD of fill/borrow material.

Material shall be spread, moisturized, graded and compacted to given levels and grades. Layer thickness of 200mm shall be used. Moisture content shall be within 2% of OMC or as specified. Suitable rollers shall be selected together with required number of passes to achieve desired results with best efficiency. Proceed with the next layer if previous layer passes the specified requirements.

6.1.9

6.1.10 Embankment shall be complete to the levels and grades specified in the specifications. 6.1.11 Side slopes shall be dressed to attain the required grades. 6.1.12 Materials generated from excavations at other parts of the project may be utilized for embankment construction if it meets quality and project specification requirements. 6.2 Aggregate Base Course 6.2.1 6.2.2 All material shall conform to the requirements as specified in the project specifications. Aggregate for base course shall consist of clean, tough, durable, sharp angle fragments free of any excess of thin or elongated pieces and reasonably free of soft, disintegrated or decomposed matter. The aggregate for base-course shall be combined into a uniform mixture by adding water as ascertained through tests. The aggregate base-course shall be spread at site in uniform layers not exceeding 15cm in compacted depth. Rolling shall be continued until the layer is compacted to the density as mentioned in project specifications. The bitumen for T.S.T shall be free from water and shall conform to the requirements as per project specification. Prior to the application, all loose material shall be removed from the surface of base course and shall be cleaned by means of methods as specified in project specifications. Temperature of bituminous material at the time of application shall be 500C to 80oC. Application of bituminous material shall be performed only when the surface is dry, atmospheric temperature is above 15oC and weather is not foggy or rainy. The bituminous material shall be applied at the rate as specified in project specification and shall be applied by approved distributors. The spray nozzles and spray bar shall be checked and adjusted 30 cm higher than the surface in order to achieve uniform distribution. Immediately after applying the asphaltic material, dry aggregate shall be uniformly and evenly distributed over the treated surface. Immediately after spreading of the aggregate, the treated surface shall be rolled with a steel-wheeled roller weighing between 6 to

HSE INSTRUCTIONS All efforts shall be made to keep the environment clean. Wild and domestic life should not be harassed. Minimize the disturbances to the natural drainage system. Archeological sites cultural places and religious significance should not be disturbed. All vehicle, machines & equipment with complete accessories should be in good operating condition and should have all the controls easily accessible & plainly marked/labeled to identify their intended functions. Batch plants should have adequate bearing support to reduce the possibility of tipping over due to settlement or high wind loading. Personnel Protective Equipment such as longsleeve shirts, long pants, hard hats, gauntlet gloves with the cuffs turned part way down and high-visibility vest and sturdy rubber boots, safety belt, safety goggles, approved respirators etc. must be used when needed for the tasks and hazards involved. Electrical systems and lights should be in proper working order and safe condition The vehicles body should be free of holes, cracks, or other imperfections to eliminate leakage and have a positive locking mechanism. The personnel required to enter dusty hoppers or bins or dusty locations, should use PPE i.e., respirators etc. Air quality should be monitored prior to entering the bin and on a continuous basis while personnel are in the bin.
