ADVERTISEMENT FOR GENERAL CONTRACTOR PREQUALIFICATION Subject to conditions prescribed by the University of California, Berkeley, responses to Universitys prequalification documents are sought from General Contractors for the following work: FACULTY CLUB EXTERIOR REPAIRS& RENOVATION Berkeley, Alameda County PROJECT NO. 12527A Estimated Construction Cost: $775,000 PREQUALIFICATION OF PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS: Contractors who submit bids on this Project must be prequalified. University has determined that

LICENSES: To become prequalified, interested Contractors must possess a current California contractors license General Building License Classification, License Code B. DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK: The proposed project will repair and replace, as needed, the exterior siding, doors and windows on the Faculty Club (TFC), a historic structure on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. The work will involve restoration of existing historic finishes and may include reframing of portions of the existing roof, deck, and re-roofing of flat roof areas. Or to obtain an electronic copy of the Prequalification Documents, please see http://www.cp.berkeley.edu/AdsForBids.html A MANDATORY Prequalification Conference will be conducted on May 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Participants shall meet at the south porch entrance of the Faculty Club on the central UC Berkeley campus. Attendance at the Prequalification Conference is mandatory for Contractors attempting to become prequalified to bid on this project. Contractors may find that parking may be difficult. The Owner recommends that you allow ample time to drive to the area of College Avenue and Bancroft Way, Berkeley, find a parking space, and walk to the building (approx. 3 minute walk from College & Bancroft), and locate the buildings south entry, at which the mandatory Prequalification Conference will be held. (Note: Public parking is available on the street, in the south of campus area.) Contractors arriving late after the mandatory Prequalification Conference has commenced (i.e., more than 15 minutes after the published starting time) will not be allowed to submit a Prequalification Questionnaire for this project. Contractors must be present for the entire Prequalification Conference. Submittal of Prequalification Submittals to permit a Contractor to bid the project will be received at the same location until 2:00 p.m., May 16, 2013. No Prequalification Submittals will be received after Thursday, May 16, 2013, 2:00 p.m. Confidentiality of the information provided will be respected to the extent permitted by law.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK Project Manager: Ellen Owens Owners Representative: University of California, Berkeley The proposed project will repair and replace, as needed, the exterior siding, doors and windows on the Faculty Club (TFC), a historic structure on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. The work will involve restoration of existing historic finishes and may include reframing of portions of an existing deck, re-roofing of flat roof areas, and restoration of a small area of historic stucco plaster. The work will involve repair, replacement, or refurbishment of approximately 3,000 sq. ft. of siding, 220 windows, 30 doors. It will also include rebuilding the 650 sq. ft. Seaborg deck, and replacing approximately 1,500 sq. ft. of flat roofs including flashing as needed. We anticipate Bidding Documents to be available week of May 20, 2013. Construction is estimated to begin June 11, 2013 and last for 10 months, phased. The exact dates, times, and location will be set forth in an Announcement to Prequalified Bidders.

EVALUATION CRITERIA A uniform evaluation procedure will be applied in accordance with applicable law, to evaluate those firms desiring to be prequalified to propose the work on this project. Only firms that meet all of the following criteria will be included on the list of prequalified Contractors. Qualifications will include evaluation and verification of contractors or entitys evidence and history of proper licensing, ability to secure required bonding, and financial ability. The relevant experience of the firm/entity and the history of the entity and organization will be evaluated. Include the firms experience in successfully completing comparable projects of similar size, scope and complexity on the Qualifying Experience and Expertise forms. Exact requirements are listed below. To become prequalified to propose on this project, Contractors shall submit a complete Prequalification Submittal to Capital Projects, University of California, Berkeley confirming that all the following criteria are met. All written material required must be supplied at the time of this submittal. The Owner reserves the right to request, receive and evaluate supplemental information after the above time and date at its sole determination. The General Contractor must: A. B. C. Possess a current California Contractors License designation B, Complete all of the information requested in the Contractor Information form, Complete all questions in the Qualifying Experience and Expertise form. If your firm provides inaccurate or incomplete information, your firm may be found nonresponsive. If your firm receives negative project references, your firm may be found nonresponsive. The Contractor must submit at least three (3) and maximum of ten (10) comparable projects substantially completed in the last ten (10) years. Photos must be submitted, including project descriptions that include problems and/or restrictions encountered and solutions which led to a successful project. Subcontractor experience will only be considered if it correlates to the work the subcontractor will be performing on this contract. Any subcontractor listed in this prequalification must then be listed on the Bid Form. A comparable project is defined as a project with one or more of the following characteristics. While it is not required that each of the submitted projects demonstrates all of the following characteristics, the submitted projects, considered in aggregate, must demonstrate the full range of the listed characteristics. Extensive experience in repair of historic preservation projects on the National, State or Local Historic Registry; Repair of exposed heavy timber construction experience in repairing historic timber framing with Dutchman repairs, demonstrated ability to match historic appearances; Repair of historic windows and doors experience in the repair of historic wood doors and windows to match historic appearances, including repairs, partial replacement, and complete replacement of matching doors and windows; Redwood Gutters experience in the fabrication and installation of Redwood gutters of approximately 5 inches square to match historic appearances;

Wood shingle siding replacement experience in the replacement of wood shingle siding to match historic appearances; Stucco replacement experience with replacement of stucco to match historic appearances. Restricted site access adjacent to occupied buildings in the immediate vicinity.
