Sobotka Overview of Digital Commerce in the Classroom As defined as the buying and selling of goods online (Bailey and Ribble 16), digital commerce is also known for its complicated placement within the confines of the classroom outside of the business curriculum. As every subjects curriculum, core and elective courses now boast a curriculum geared to the relevance of every students life, teachers must now find relativity to digital commerce in their respective classrooms. In essence, digital commerce is the responsibility to know where ones money is coming and going and that these choices of vendor/ product are fiscally sound and appropriate. Students must learn to do the research or homework investigating the vendor/ product for reliability of quality and business ethic/ code of conduct before making purchases within their allotted means. This includes staying out of debt and within a sound budget according to their means/ lifestyle. Digital Commerce in the Digital Citizenship Class/ Curriculum: A Proposed Project This lesson/ project requires the teacher to be nothing more than a facilitator while the students explore the tools provided and as well as discover other ways to research responsibility habits associated with digital commerce. Ideally, this project would take place within a setting that allows all students to have access to a computer/ laptop with internet capabilities. The teacher should have their own access to a computer/ laptop that would project brainstorming ideas onto a SmartBoard where the teacher could also manipulate information free of the keyboard. The teacher will present the students with t his scenario and set of tools. The student or group of students must research, plan, and create a media presentation of their proposal. (The duration of this assignment is five days.) Party Planning Proposal You are an event planner who is creating a proposal for a client, 20 year old Claira Doyle. Claira is the new face on the lucky and lavish scene and every event planner in town wants to be the head of this project. Alternative Assignment Instead of assigning the whole party to a student or group of students, the teacher may via class discussion split the party planning into several categories (decoration, food, drink, entertainment/ music, etc.) and then designate portions of the budget to each category. Each student or group of students will be assigned a category to research, plan, budget, and present to Claira. (The duration of this alternative should be 2 to 3 days.) Bonus Assignment As an extra incentive, Claira has also stated that she would like to sell one aspect of her party (soundtrack, signature snack, etc.) using a reputable host site.
