Additional requirements and prerequisites

• Calculator – A standard scientific calculator is required for the course. If you have any questions concerning your
calculator check with your instructor, a calculator which could potentially give an unfair advantage may be disal-
lowed in testing situations!
• Safety Glasses – Available in bookstore and hardware stores.
• Lock for laboratory drawer –Must be Master Lock series V56 or V67.

Exams and Quizzes
There will be four exams and one final exam this semes-
ter. The four exams will be given as per the schedule.
The final is comprehensive and will be given during our
scheduled time in finals week.
Computer quizzes will have due dates. They must be
completed by this time to receive credit. It is very
important for the student to stay current and seek assis-
tance when it is needed. If you have a question

It is recommended that you keep a file of all work done
to use for study material and as a record of scores.
Laboratory
We will meet for lab two days a week. It is important for
you to read the experiment prior to coming to lab. You
must also complete any pre-lab questions. You will be
given a lab quiz prior to the beginning of each labora-
tory exercise.

You are responsible for any lost or broken equipment in
the laboratory and will be charged for all missing equip-
ment at the end of the semester. In addition, a $10 fee
will be assessed for any student who fails to
check out of the laboratory.
Because of potential safety problems, children may not
attend lab. This will include not being in the adjacent
computer area while the parent is in lab. Also no lab
work may be done without an instructor present in the
laboratory.
Other Assignments
In addition to exams, quizzes, and lab, you will also
have one other sources of evaluation. There are a num-
ber of homework assignments to be completed. In addi-
tion you will be required to present a chemical
demonstration to your classmates and you will be
required to summarize the day’s activities at least once
for the semester. Each of these will be discussed in
class, so please be prepared to take notes.

Academic Integrity
Please be aware of the College’s and the Chemistry
Department’s academic integrity policy. In particular,
exam work and lab results are to be entirely your own.
Also information may not be programmed into a calcu-
lator for use on a quiz or examination. Penalties from a
zero on an exam to expulsion are available. Your
instructor does not have to observe the cheating. If a fel-
low classmate makes an allegation, this allegation will
be acted upon as if seen by the instructor.
Attendance
Regular attendance is expected. (A roll sheet may be
passed at each class.) The instructor will plan to drop
any student who misses over (4) classes. You are an
adult and in a college course. If you wish to drop, you
must turn in the forms and get a receipt.

Assistance
There is a free tutoring service in the library building,
and chemistry instructors are available to all students
during “open” help times. Chemistry 142T, the com-
puter drill course, is recommended.
Computer Tutorials. These tutorials are available
to anyone who registers for Chemistry 142T. They are
useful study tools and completion of 85% of these drills
will earn 1 unit of credit. Talk to your instructor for
