Need Analysis Report Result We created 15 questions for need analysis.

Seven questions are based on activities, five questions based on content and three questions based on context. We distributed the questionnaire papers to 10 English teachers from two different primary schools around Pasir Gudang. For question number 1, eight teachers agree that remedial pupils are afraid of English. They think all remedial pupils are afraid of all subjects in school so that they have no confidence in learning at school. Two other teachers disagree for that point. Thus, we think our programme will build their self-confidence. Second question is about asking is speaking skill is the most important skill to teach for remedial pupils? Seven of the teachers ticked yes. The other three teachers think that the most important skill either writing or reading. In our programmae, we integrate all four skills but our main focus is speaking skill. We tried to ask our respondents whether young learners could work in group. 90% of them ticked yes. The responses make us more confidence to carry out our programme because most of the activities require pupils to work in group. 50% of the teachers responded that four periods (2 hours) a week is not adequate to cover one topic. We are going to figure the issue out as we respect our respondent views. The 5th question sounds Do you encourage teachers to carry out lessons outside the formal classroom setting?. Ten teachers or 100% of them ticked yes. We do think lesson should also been carried out outside of the formal classroom setting because we need to attract pupils to find learning is fun and adventures. For question number 6, nine of the teachers agree that materials should be authentic i.e. taken from newspapers, magazines, audiotapes, weblogs and only one of the teachers disagree. They think, pupils need to be exposed to those kinds of materials as today everything works very fast. Four teachers think that two teachers are not enough to give adequate attention to eight remedial pupils. For this matter, we could not adjust the teachers quantity because there are only two of us running this programme, but we will try our best to make sure all of the pupils could get adequate attention from the teachers in the class. For the next item of issue Remedial pupils only learn when spoon-fed, seven of the respondents ticked yes. In our programme, we are trying to build pupils confidence therefore after they graduate from our programme, they could be active pupils and voice out their ideas in the classroom.

70% of the teachers do think remedial pupils are not ready for a new concept such as Environment because in such topic, there are scientific term and high level vocabularies. Actually we are going to teach them how to save environment in small acts, for example switch off the light, turn off the tap, do not litter. Nine of the teachers agree to have language tasks such as role play in every lesson. We are in the same boat because our entire topic contains language tasks. 100% of the respondents agree song should be included in the lesson, hands-on activities are important for young learners and all of them think at the end of the programme, the remedial pupils will be more confident to speak in English. We think all the views are really help us in order to accomplish the objectives of our programme.
