PROPSAL FOR VIBE

As I have been studying the creative media diploma for nearly two years now, I thought I would be able to give a good bit of detail on how the course is run and why I think it would be a good course to enrol on to. That is my initial thoughts for why I wanted to make the advert. I think I have a good knowledge of the course and of its pros and cons. I also think that a lot of people think you need to know a lot about media, if youre going to do a media course, but you really dont, all the skills I have, I have learnt from the course. I also want to reach out to the young adults that arent at college and dont have a job, these people dont think they have any skills good enough to go to college or get a job, but I think anyone can be good at media, as long as their head is in the right place. As well as reaching out to students to enrol, after doing research in to other colleges, no one has an advertisement for this course, I too think that the course does not have a lot of publicity, so I think by making a advert for the course, it will raise the profile of the course and get more people who didnt know a course like this existed, does exist! Therefore my main aims for the advert are to, create opportunities for young adults who arent at college or working, for students who have an interest in media but have never thought they would be able to do it and last of all to raise the profile of the course and how good it is. I will try to capture a friendly environment at The HENLEY College so that straight away students can see if they can place themselves in the colleges surroundings, I will have footage of students working, so target audience can see what equipment they get to use, and what the work load is like. Information about grades you need to get on to the course, what we learn about and also the practical work and last of all what they can go on do after the course.

The product I am making is an advertisement for the Creative and media course at The HENLEY College. The advert will be 2.00 minutes long. I have chosen this idea as I think I will be able to advertise the course very well as I know a lot about it already. The advert will consist of 3 parts, these being; introducing the course,

Target audience
As I am advertising a college course the main target audience is 16-18, as 16 is the age pupils start making decisions about what course they want to further their education with and at the age of 18 you could currently be at a college but, not enjoying the course and want to look for something that suits you better. However even though these ages are my main focuses, however 18-25 will be included as well. My reason for including this age group as well, is that there are a lot of young adults out of education and out of work at this time, so by aiming this course at young adults as well, it could encourage them to want to start doing something and maybe they think they have always had an interest in media but never knew how to follow it through. Over all as a students myself I know visually seeing something is more efficient than reading it, they will be more interested and be more engaged by watching something, then reading a paragraph about a course, that firstly you would have to get them to read.

Straight away the idea of this sound amazing. A lot of students want to travel and by being able to learn and to travel, in a way gives them an excuse to do it. Straight away the advert asks you to think, this engages your mind in to what they want you to think about, the music is quite serious so helps a young mind to focus. Its ask you to think about learning, which students wouldnt really want to do, but quickly engages with the audience again by saying think about travelling and doing these two things together. It goes on to shows pictures of travelling and students learning in a classroom. Its a short advert of 1:34 but has somehow given all the information they need to give in that short time. Each advert I look at I want to understand what I can learn from it, to add to mine and make mine better and from this one it has highlighted what I already know but has shown me how to do it. The advert uses mostly pictures and big bold words to get its point across. This is a great technique, being a student myself I dont want to sieve through information, I want to know the hard facts and thats it. The use of pictures tells the story its self with footage of the students doing certain things. From this advert I can learn the simpler the better. You want to give enough information so that people are interested, but no enough, so that they do want to look more in to what you have to offer in this adverts case, they want you to go on to their website and get involved. Straight away the background This advertisement is a silhouette of female and male so there is a certainty that it is aimed at both sexes. At 0.24 seconds through it out lines what they can help you do using very thought through text and shapes to interest the people watching. This will help new learners understand what this has to offer them. They use fun text and make the letters bigger so they are easier to read, they also appear on the screen, quite slowly, so that viewers can take their time to read it and not miss any key information. It then asks rhetorical questions, which they probably assume viewers are already thinking themselves. At 0.59 seconds it says how its 30%60% lower than campus studying. All the key points I have highlighted such as text, low price fees, aiming it at female and male, are all things they have carefully chosen to suit the interests of their target audience. The way they have put all of this together is very clever and I can see they have put a lot of effort in to cleverly placing images, text and using voice over to supply every bit of information to draw in new students. From this I can learn that I am not the only person who realises this information you need to put it and that to make my advert more interesting then the others out there, I need to supply all these factors but in a different way, so that my target audience can say, yes I have seen this idea before, but this advert has done it in a more quirky fun way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoKHRh2cMus This advert is for South West College for higher education. It shows female and male influence, so that viewers know that it is aimed at both sexes straight away. The advert is quite straightforward. It has both sexes who are around 18 years old featuring in the advert. The main aim of the advert it to advertise what courses the college has to offer you and thats it. For me this advert is a bit boring, it does not have a lot of information on the college or what they college is a like and really does leave you, with a lot of questions un-answered, but maybe that it what they want to achieve, to let new prospectors know what the college has to offer and If you want to know more you need to come and have a look for yourself. However I s houldnt have to guess what the outcome of their advert is about, they should be making it clear. So overall its quite a basic educational advert. My overall conclusion of research in to other competitors is that they all do the same thing to draw new students in. They involved both sexes in advertising, information about the education, big bold text and shapes and voice over. I need to include all of these aspects to bring my product on to the same level as the adverts already available. However I need do this and more, yes I need to include the key aspects that interest people, but I need to put a spin on it somehow and make it different, otherwise what will make my product be better than other

I researched on the internet renting equipment for a week and I came across a website called all out hire. It has different kits of different content. The one I have chosen is 225 a day and I have worked out I will need it for 4 days, so the total will be 900. This may sound a lot, but I looked in to renting pieces of equipment individually and it works out around 1500 for 4 days so I thought paying for a kit would be better price wise. In the kit I believe you get everything you need, you get a camera which comes with a rain cover, which is good, as I wont be prevented from filming due to the weather, a tripod so all my shots will not be shaky and look very professional. Also you get a sound kit, which is excellent so all my sound will be professional and there will be no fuzzy noises. Another good piece of equipment you get is 500 GB memory which is fantastic. This whole kit has everything I need in one; it even has a manual if I get confused on how to use anything. Overall I really hope you will understand how good the equipment is and really urge you to consider purchasing this kit, as it has everything you need in one and is much better than having to rent different equipment from different places, as this would be very time consuming, with this I can rent it all at a lower price from the same place and pick it up all together.
