Overview
Eliminating paper can deliver business efciency by replacing manual paper handling with instant on-line access to information. Paper can be lost or damaged, requires expensive handling and can only support serial access. Images can be shared, delivered and processed more efciently than paper. Replacing paper with instant access to electronic images can deliver improved customer service and open the door to customer self service. Vignette Image Capture enables paper removal at the point it enters the organization, capturing mail at the mailroom and converting existing stores of paper. Paper is captured and efciently converted to images for storage and processing. Vignette Image Capture can be linked closely to organizations business applications to minimize the need for manual image processing and maximize capture automation and throughput.
Features
Advanced scalable architecture Support low volume scan operations and high volume mailrooms Capture images on a single PC, or support multi-station high volume scanning operation
Descriptions
Scanning, indexing, server and administration functions can be supported on a single PC, or distributed over many PCs to support high volume throughput and large numbers of index and QA staff. Vignette Image Captures modular architecture allows additional functionality and capacity to be added to meet increasing demand or seasonal uctuations in throughput.
Features
Powerful batch driven scan processing Minimize manual operation Maximize scanner throughput Advanced document separation automates new document detection Scan many disparate documents in a single scan run Maximize scanner throughput Automated document indexing Reduce slow manual indexing
Descriptions
Vignette Image Capture has been click-optimized for efcient image capture. Scan operation can be managed through the keyboard or mouse. Selecting the type of batch to be scanned drives the scanner settings, document separation, indexing, image processing and other options. In many cases, simply selecting the batch and starting the scan is all that is required to complete scanning and indexing operations. When large volumes of mail or other documents are scanned, the start of each new document must be automatically identied. Vignette Image Capture can automatically detect document boundaries using capabilities such as separator sheets, barcode detection, and page numbers.
Each document scanned will usually need to be indexed for later identication. Vignette Image Capture minimizes the need for slow user indexing by automating the indexing process. Documents can inherit indexing information from their scan batch and folder, from external databases and other business applications, or from information on the image itself. Manual indexing can be assisted eld based zooming and linking to other business systems for pre-populating, bounding and validating elds. Vignette Image Captures modular architecture supports the addition of standard and customized image processing. These modules can be used to perform image cleaning (despeckle, deskew etc), blank page removal, ICR/OCR, and other operations.
Modular document processing architecture Improve image quality Wide range of supported scanners Color, bitonal, high and low volume Capture faxes and paper using the same capture process
Choose from a wide range of supported scanners the one that best suits your needs. The industry standard ISIS interface is used to drive scanners from desktop scanners through to high volume production strength scanners. Vignette Image Capture also captures faxes and allows them to be processed and indexed in the same way scanned images. This avoids building separate fax capture processing. Standard interfaces are shipped for common fax gateways.

Centralized or distributed operation Support central scan centers or distributed regional scan centers
High volume centralized scan centers are supported by adding scan, indexing and server stations. These centers often run multiple high performance scanners, have many indexing and QA staff and feature high levels of integration. Distributed scanning centers can scan independent of the central site and transfer images over a network or using an internet connection. Scanning dashboards provide instant access to performance and throughput information, quickly highlighting bottlenecks and allowing corrective resource distribution. Audit information can be exported for more detailed historical analysis.
Color and Bi-tonal image capture Simplify document indexing and reduce
Color scanning can provide signicant advantages for a small increase in storage. Color makes thumbnails images meaningful for document identication reducing the need for indexing. Bi-tonal images do not capture information about the colors on a form and may completely lose information in certain colors. Color images avoid these issues and deliver a more accurate record of the paper original.
