EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This term paper is an initiative to implement the theoretical knowledge gained in class in a practical scenario based on the findings from the midterm report on Training Needs Assessment for Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). The term paper is kept limited to the two tasks, use of GIS software and report writing, for which employees needed training according to the training needs assessment for CEGIS. Two separate training programs are designed to satisfy two different training needs. The first program is designed for the better use of ArcGIS 9.1 software which is a 5-day training program. The training session on report writing is a 0ne day training session. In both the cases 20 employees having 6-12months of experience are considered to be the participants. The training design contains a detail lesson plan which is the blue print for these programs designed for 20 operational employees with 6-12 months experience in the organization. The training on GIS software use is the critical between the two and thus needs more time devoted behind it than the training on report writing. To measure the impact of these training programs the evaluation design is selected to be Pretest/Posttest with Comparison Group. For both the training programs the evaluation design will be used to evaluate five levels. Several types of data will be collected and analyzed to measure the impact of the training for these five levels. The evaluation design is directed to measure the impact of the outcomes that would follow the training programs. Apart from the learning level of the participants, retention level of the knowledge for the trainees, difference that the training brings on the employees through comparison group evaluation and overall reaction of trainees to the training programs are measured.
