THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

As we approach the end of Scotts tenure at Fifth, I want our congregation to know I contacted our Bible Colleges over a month ago about our need to fill this position. I continue speaking with ministers about contacts they may have to help us with this ministry. Although at this time we have no one we are considering, it is my contention that God will lead someone to us, as He did before with Scott. We covet your prayers as we seek to find the right individual who can take us further in this journey we have begun in our worship ministry. I also want you to pray for Scotts family as they transition to Marysville. Let me share a brief thought with you today. God wants to create a passionate tension in our lives, a holy discomfort! He does not want you to die unfulfilled. Life is about living! You see, Jesus wants to reach our hearts so He can lead us to a place of passionate heart living. When we become infected by the risen Christ, we create a tension in our surrounding culture. Think about it! Where do we grow? Is it not in places of tension, in places of conflict, and in places of discomfort? It is in these places that we begin to ask questions that stretch us. After all, if we still have the same understanding of Jesus that we had twenty years ago, we are most likely not growing. I know He is the same yesterday, today and forever. I know God is unchanging. I know all of that. Yet our understanding and discovery of God must grow deeper. Maturity happens if we allow ourselves to remain in places of discomfort. What I am trying to say is too many Christians today are dull and asleep. Jesus is calling His church not to more religious belief but to an affair of the heart. Jesus desires in all of us, an intimate and passionate relationship. Lets get out of our walls and demonstrate Gods reckless love with others as we passionately live for Christ. Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

RECOGNITION: This week, once again, I want to point an appreciative finger at some special people who greatly assist in my ministry. I point to Lowell and Frances Trimmer who faithfully provide the music for our Sunday evening worship services. Two more indispensable individuals who provide assistance and support, to me, are John Baird, who, operates our sound board on Sunday evening and his assistant in training, Denise Baird. I am so grateful to have these faithful and dependable folks on our team. TOURING THE AIRSTREAM PLANT: This Wednesday, June 26, we will be departing at 7:30am for our trip to Jackson Center and a tour of the Airstream plant. The only cost of this trip will be $5 per person for gas. Lunch will be on your own at Fazolis. A sign-up sheet is posted. We still have 2 seats available. Also, you may sign on as a standby, as cancellations do occur. Attention: The factory requires that we not wear open-toed shoes or sandals. LaCOMEDIA DINNER THEATRE: We are still receiving reservations for our trip to Dayton and the LaComedia Dinner Theatre. The sign-up sheet is now posted for this Thursday, October 17, event. The trip is open to anyone of any age! Your payment of $44.00 per person will be due 60 days prior to the performance (on or about August 15). The show is The Church Basement Ladies: A Mighty Fortress. This is the third in this series. We have laughed and enjoyed the previous two. Remember, the fee includes dinner, the show and travel. (I do have 20 reservations, already. We have 28 tickets on reserve.) SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This week, June 23, we will continue in our series, Seven Lessons From Judges. Our topic, this week, is Abimelech, The Renegade (Judges 9). Next week, you are encouraged to participate in the special farewell dinner for Scott Brown and his family. On July 7, we will return to the sermon series. If you are not involved in a small group on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. I remind you parents, once again that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDIES: On Wednesday, June 19, we completed our study of Colossians. Following this session, we are taking our summer break and will return with a new study in September. FINAL THOUGHT: Stretching the truth wont make it last any longer.

Reception for Scott and Sarah Brown A potluck dinner reception will be held for Scott and Sarah Brown and their children on Sunday, June 30th, at 5:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. A basket will be provided for love offerings. We will also have devotions and communion.

Last week in Childrens Church we celebrated Fathers Day! We celebrated our earthly Fathers as well as our Heavenly Father. God blessed each and every one of us with a Father, whether they are in our lives currently or not. Even though our fathers love us very much, it could never compare to the love that our Heavenly Father has for us. I am so thankful for the love of my earthly and heavenly father! We had so much fun at the Zoo on Friday! Dont forget: June 30th is another GymSpiration night! I encourage all families with children to look into going to camp this year! There is still time to register your child! Camp has been such a huge part of my life since and I think every child deserves the chance to go! If you are interested, please talk to me about our Scholarship that the church offers for our campers. Hannah

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Mark 16:15-16 15 He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Jesus is the savior of the world. Many in the world dont yet know that. We are called to live for Jesus, to live like Jesus, so we can introduce Jesus to the lost. You cant save anybody and neither can I. Jesus can. Following rules wont save people. They dont need rules. They need Jesus. Following tradition wont save them. They dont need tradition. They need Jesus. A great praise band and a new building wont save them. They need Jesus. The latest, greatest evangelism tool wont save them. They need Jesus. We Need Jesus. Jesus is the good news for all of mankind. If we are in Christ, it is our purpose to spread that good news to all of creation. We are Gods messengers, sent to share Jesus with everyone. We dont have to be perfect. Jesus is. We dont have to sell anyone on Jesus. The Holy Spirit will draw people to Jesus. We dont have to have all the answers. Jesus is the answer. Lord, help us to surrender to your will and accept your Lordship in our lives. Help us to overflow with the joy of our salvation and share Jesus with everyone we meet.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO
